Sometimes these games are too much of a grind. One thing I really loved about Planetside is that there was a very little grind and the rest of the time was enjoying your char and tuning your skills. Sorry to say buy loving MMORGS = Loving countless grinding hours.

So sad to see this go out the window. Guess it's back to WOW for me.

Its pretty impossible to do now, yes.

I just started on the village ( see my reg date ), did 22 holo professions on my old toon ( knows how to grind ) but 1 / 30 is a killer and its not even fun.

To the guy with the long winded complaint about why I still post to these worthless threads....I have to just in case the devs actually read these forums. I don't want them to think everyone disagree with the combat xp nerf. We would not want them to get that impression then un nerf combat xp. Second someone needs to take to task some people who lie so they can still post the same worthless threads that were already flooding this forum.

Also about the silly idea that Jedi should be easy but mastering it should be hard...dumbest idea I heard in a while. That idea would lead to 95% of the game population running around with light sabers. How can someone be such a spoiled brat who only thinks about himself not to see this would not be good for the game?

Again the devs need to nerf the easy Glowie system. That is the problem. People get easy Glowie then dissapointed when FS grinding is not as easy.

Not even complaining about this game in particular, any game really. I dunno, just enjoy the pvp aspect the most. Not the getting the char up to speed part. Hope my likes and dislikes are not offending anyone?

I for one am getting sick of the "if you can't handle the grind, get out of the village" line, it's old and hardly the point.

Perhaps you jaded old timers (I hadn't played since beta) might wanna check out the tutorial that bloody well compells you to go for a jed, all this "you are so very special, I can feel it" crap and even has a dark jed hunting you down as you escape to the planet of Tatooine.

or the incredibly EASY fricking path to getting glowy.

SOE gives out a GOLDEN FRICKING INVITATION to be a jed then dumps you into a black hole of endless grinding for a pitiful rate of 30:1 once it's within reach, if this was a store it would be bait and switch.

its like running the iron man in a city park and then putting the finish line on pluto.

Who needs this crap, if SOE thinks this is how to beat WOW, toentice people to choose a path that is little more then a thinly veiled way to lock in a subscription, then just make em purchasable and fricking give us something FUN to do.. you remember FUN right?

Hell I would'nt mind grinding 5million to the power of 40 xp points if it was something worthwhile or fun, how about an epic quest that pays a million xp? long, involved, rewarding.

I sure as heck dont remember yoda telling Anikan or Luke "grind a million bols you must, before the secrets of the forceI will tell"

PS the cannons be damned, jeds r here to stay, accuracy is out the window and ain't coming back, so now make it useful and fun

Ugh! I give up, I can't justify paying for this any more.

Point made perfectly, i personally made the "glowie" status about 3 or 4 phases b4 this combat xp nerf. So I already had quite a bit of time invested into this "grind" when they decided to change the rules on me. So what do I do now.... I either give up and nullify all the time previously put into it, or be a good little glowie and play with the rather significant rule change without complaining according to some of you. Its not like I could read in the future when i decided to go for Jedi and figure out they were gonna make things 100 times more difficult 1/2 through the village grind. Why shouldnt we post this stuff, with the hopes that there might even be a remote chance that a dev will see that SOE screwed up and really should have fixed the nade exploit andnot the combat xp conversion. Yeah, this will probably never be looked at by a dev, but it's not an impossible thought is it?

in true troll fasion you forget to read what you attack, I never once said the grind was too hard, I said the grind is too boring and is a slap in the face compaired to the ease of becoming glowy, as an overall game system it's a pos.

what reward is there in gretting glowy just for visiting places thenspending 8 monthsin some sort of dev created contentless limbo? it's like they are making it up as they go, swapping out modules to tweek the game.

you watch, once obie goes live the village will go pouf and only jtl subscribers will be able to grind a jed, with hopefully some content rather then mindless bol extermination.

now how about beingcivil for once and reading before you flame my post again.

Proves my point. They need to nerf the glowie system. Only by playing for a year and doing certain missions should someone glow.

It doesn't matter how you word your sentences, you are still whining about the grind to become Jedi. Bottom line is you don't have to choose the Jedi path, but if you do, you have to grind it the way the current system is set up to grind it. You can whine and say it's too hard, or you can whine and say it's too tedious, or you can say,"the grind is too boring and is a slap in the face compaired to the ease of becoming glowy." Word it however you like, but it all comes down to the fact that your whine does nothing to change what has to be done to become Jedi, and that is grind. Now suck it up and be a man.

In my opinion, the only people who could possibly claim that the path from FS to Jedi is hard are people who don't know the difference between hard and boring/monotonous. Honestly there is absolutely no difference in difficulty between grinding 6 branches of FS and grinding to Master Marksman - it's just MUCH longer. Boring monotony != difficult.

Take a step back and look at the game as a whole. One of the most important challenges (possibly the most important challenge) facing any MMORPG is game balance. For SWG, this is an even greater challenge, because Jedi inherently are a thorn in the side of maintaining balance. Jedi are supposed to be (according to the Devs) 1.5x more powerful than standard professions. So naturally, if there are too many Jedi in the galaxy, game balance is pretty much out the window. There are two obvious ways to solve this - nerf Jedi so that they're on par with other professions in order to maintain balance and/or do things to discourage people from choosing Jedi as a profession.

There are many possible ways to accomplish the second objective - make the glowy process much more difficult and time consuming, replace the village/Padawan Trials with anextremely difficult and time-consuming (1 year or more) theme park, make it so that any Jedi that so much as shows their saber in public is pretty much dead, bring back skill loss on death for both FS and Jedi, bring back perma-death for Jedi, etc. etc. etc. SOE chose to make you grind for countless hours. It's not supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be boring so that it will (presumably) deter people from choosing that path.

I don't agree with the fact that they openly invite everyone to bea Jedi, but that's really just marketting gibberish. They have Jedi, which is one of the best marketting gimmicks ever, to lure people into playing the game. They make it easy for you to accomplish the first step. They then make the second steptake at least 4 months, knowing full well that no matter how much everyone complains, everyone will continue to paybecause they all want that magical glowstick. And thebest part of the whole deal is that it's extremely cost effective - from a development standpoint, implementing a long system of grinding is probably the easiest and cheapest solution you could come up with. From a pure marketting perspective, it's actually pretty ingenious. But then again, I never have liked marketting.

Do I wish that the path to Jedi was more content-driven and more fun? Yes, I do. Do I wish there was more content in the game in general? Of course. But the system is what it is, so deal with it. To be honest, I have yet to play a MMORPG that didn't eventually end up being reduced to some mindless grind (and I've played quite a few). The reason being that providing dynamic and interesting content in a MMORPG is an extremely difficult thing to do, and is also extremely expensive development-wise. The first MMORPG that accomplishes that will absolutely get my vote as the best game ever.

If the only reason you subscribed to this game was to play a Jedi, I honestly feel sorry for you. There area lot of other things to do and explore in this game that are a lot of fun. If you can't handle the grind, then Jedi might not be the best profession for you. And before you say "it's old and hardly the point", it is the point because the system is what it is, and it's not going to change anytime soon. Either suck it up and get it done, or choose something else in the game that you find fun and interesting.
