Disagree. Rifleman speed mod has been in that profession since launch. I'd say it is pretty much been known that a Master Rifleman WAS suppose to be firing as fast as they are. The 'common knowledge' as you stated is a myth, an urban legend.


The idea that rifles fire slower is not true. Rifles, pistols, and carbines all work off the same technology, even in SW. There is no reason that they couldn't fire at similar rates. The T21 in SW fires 1 shot per second at it's SLOWEST rate.


Making everything the same DPS does not bring balance. For this simple reason. If everyone had the same DPS then you still wouldn't have balance. Why? You are forgetting defenses and combat multipliers (status effect, AoE attacks, DoTs, etc).


If all the professions had the same DPS. Then would Rifleman be balanced vs Carbineer when the Carbineer has much more status effects? Or vs Pistoleer that has more defenses? No. So you would have to make those the same. End result, three professions that are identical with the only real difference the graphic in their hand. Might as well drop all those elite professions and just make one called 'Ranged Fighter'.


The reason Pistoleers have lower DPS is because they have higher defenses. Carbineers have more status attacks. Rifleman have more damage. Every profession is suppose to have a role. Not be the same.


Look at the melee professions. Do they all have the same DPS? Do Swordsman and Fencer have the same DPS? No. Fencer has much more in the way of defenses and lower DPS. Swordsman have lower defenses and more damage output. The same as Rifleman vs Pistoleer.

I guess I could deal. Human can slide their stats to be 1500 in all secondaries, 1725 Health, 1725 action, and 1500 Mind. At least i could use specials unarmored.

Ok, what doesn't make sense to me is that he said dodge will be completely removed and a block will be put in. From what the devs said an Fan Fest dodge wasn't really a problem, they said counterattack (if it attacked back all the time like it should) is the better of the defenses and block sucks cuz you actually take damage still. It seems to me that they would stick it to counterattack instead of fixing it, if they nerf dodge then counterattack would still be the best because it's still a full dodge even w/o the attack back. Another thing is how just does a fencer block? In fencing the fencer will not typically block an attack, they will dodge and parry the blow. It doesn't make sense that a fencer would block because their sword is so thin ( not just foils, the rest are thin too) and its very difficult to block a blow with only one hand.

As for fencer becoming dot based, does that mean we still have the same damage output? I wouldn't mind having a buttload of dots if I still did the same damage, I think that might be better because then we won't to use lvas anymore...or we would still use lvas and the opponent will have like 5 different dots... actually, people might not like that. Anyways, this would also not make sense if they lowered our damage output and made use completely dot based, then we would have to wait 3 minutes for the opponents ham to lower to 1 so we can poke at them with our toothpick.

And I don't see how they can make swordsman state based when tka has far more states already. The unarmed tree in brawler gives tkas more states than swordsman ever gets. How does that make sense? It's hard to say I believe you (unless you explain yourself better, I'm sure they had to have gone in depth with you on some things, I don't believe you) because there are several things that don't make sense. And also you got the publish wrong.

Another thing to consider. They may have just been pulling your leg. Or they could have been making it up and have no idea what is happening. They might not even have been Devs. I'm sure more than just Devs work at SOE in Austin. Unless you know the Devs on sight.

Except there are a myriad of changes in every Publish that never make it into the notes, and several things in the notes that weren't in the patch. I would be 150% less pissed if every change was documented reliably in the Publish notes, and if anything the Publish changed that it wasn't supposed to was deemed a bug and set upon to be restored ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up Cozumel. Much appreciated. And very exciting if you are a player like me who hates seeing everyone run around with 3000 HAM and composite armor that makes them all but invincible.

For those that believe this is lies, a hoax, or even a conspiracy theory... Please, get a grip. Have you even paid attention to the history of this game and the changes being made? Hardly any change I've ever seen in this game has been gradual. Besides that, most all of what Cozumel is saying is in line of what has already been told to us by the devs on these same board. There have been HUGE changes in the history of this game. And not all are documented or even known of by all of the devs posting on the boards. Just look back at the history of Creature Handler in early release. They were by far the most dominant class and most used/dabbled. Then came two HUGE nerfs that totally crippled the profession in relation to its glorious past... However, these changes also brought it in line with what it should have been in the first place, a profession that was fun to play and gave a unique gameplay experience, but not the be all and end all PVE and PVP class.

Fencer, Riflemen, Combat Medic, etc, your next. The combat rebalance will be the most dramatic change this game will have had. Get ready for it. The nerfs are coming to town and they are long overdue.

half of what this guy has said is already public knowledge, and the other half is just his opinion. its pretty obvious that anything melee teamed up with jedi is going to be the best combo,which isprobably why I saw alot of new fencers & swordsmans running around today.

There is a big differense between idle banter at lunch and anything posted on the forums or put in the design notes.A falacy is to take people by their spoken words at times when it's only an idea and not an actual statement of facts. People have ideas and opinions; If I were a dev, I'd probably talk to someone at dinner too just to see what their reactions were. That doesn't mean that I'm immediately going to do exactly what it is I've said. The reason being; it might not work in game. That's why we *have* a test center.
