I am not going to say 100% is accurate, but the combat nerf is not going to be pretty.

Sage advice

actually, there are often things on TC that haven't been noted in the patch notes and vice versa... this is only 'sage advice' if sage advice can also be false...

Ok, did anyone notice that Thunderheart posted? It didn't outright say "This is total bs and this guy doesn't know what the hell he is talking about" but it does seem to imply that. Last time I checked the combat balance was publish 11, the next publish, 10, will be about the road to jedi. From what the devs said at Fan Fest ( I have 1200 other witnesses while you have none ), there will be no changes to combat and professions until the combat balance. That way you don't have a bunch of "fixed" professions and a bunch of broken professions. I would think that changing how most of the pvp professions work would be considered a big change. Another reason why I don't believe this is because Thunderheart included in an answer to one of our 19 Questions that the devs "liked our profession and therefore it will not be changed much, if at all." Again, changing our purpose to just dots seems like a big change. If you're telling the truth, I'm sorry, I don't believe you (it doesn't help that you got the publish wrong). While it is possible that the devs want to fruck up the game completely, I find it very unlikely.

Are you kidding me? Anyone believing or hoping that this is true is completely retarded.

NO Proffession should be dot based, that is a major problem with pikeman, they are completely dependant on dots, and it sucks.

Second, 5 second speed cap and a damage reduction? please, read other posts on what that would do to rifles DPS.

Lol the best part of this post is that this guy just happened upon a pile of devs in a city which he can't name. Even if he saw pictures of the devs he couldn't pick them out of a crowd of people, let alone happen upon them randomly at lunch. Whats even more sad is some of you believe him that he spoke with the devs!

No he named the time and place, even I (Living in LA) know the place and wouldn't be suprized if people go there from SOE all the time.

I'm just saying that changes of this magnitude unless quoted in anofficial manner, are not worthy of serious contemplation. And some of what he said was exactly that.

Seriously guys relax a bit.

Honestly and I've said it before as a simple player, and I'll say it again.

Labeling things as Nerfs is the best way to negativly impact this game and the players of this game. And I just don't see the wisdom of attempting to berate something or someone who is trying to even if it is in their own mind, make the game better.

If the Devs change something there will be reason to do so, for example Scatter hits... reasons abound for that one... it wasn't a nerf, it was the fixing of a bug... a bug that was around since publish and never was "working as intended" and everyone knew it.

BOth your slots will not be force sensitive, only the main. If you want the second to be FS you have to do the quest again.

Amen!

Its interesting to hear your perspective. I have been playing the game since launch and in the beginning, when there did not exist buffs and did not exist composite, the game was more fun because it was a heck of a challenge. Team work was crucial when going hunting. All I can tell you is be glad you jumped onto the SWG wagon now and not before, you would not have had fun. You just need to wait a couple more months. Only reason I am here is because I feel somewhat positive towards the future because of all that has been said about how its going to be.

You were doing good untill here..

Do you actually think that the devs post about everything they do here?

As for the original post, i would not call that a troll. I would however call most of the people that replied trolls.. I really don't think people understand that we'll be playing a completely different game after the combat rebalance.
He might have mentioned that riflemen were getting reduced speed and dmg. People replied "omgz no that would ruin rifleman omgz" you however fail to realize that all other professions will be "nerfed" too, damage reduced and speed reduced. What will weight up to that is that composite armor is going to get nerfed to hell and back and so are doctor buffs.
True or not[original post], everything he said sounds fairly resonable, but he didn't ofcourse list ALL the changes in the publish so some people might have a hard time putting it in context.

Well,

Anything put here is more of a guideline than anything else. Look at how much coding their dealing with and what their trying to keep running 24/7! To take everything word for word is putting a lot of expectation and strain on the devs. If we would all pay attention to the golden rule we'd realize that *everything is subject to change*. One of the things we all agreed to when we signed on to this game. So, read your manuals and come back with an, "Oh, yeah, that's right." sometime. While you can argue about the justification of the black and white; it doesn't change that the black and white is still there on the agreement policy.

But, like most gamers,I get ticked off too when they say their fixing something and it feels more like a nerf. Then my frustrations get bent on hostility toward the word 'fix' and I wind up ticked off at them and SOE for a varity of reasons. The bottom line, it's pretty easy to point fingers and blame them. But don't forget, they've got lives, deadlines, and a lot to deal with too. Not unlike many of us.

It seems likely to me that thoes Devs who do combat mechanics were working on Jedi until recently. Now thats done they are starting on other bits of class balance, first there was the BH fix (which I think is creating a kind of sandbox for them to see where people go with the extra points - obviously they will hit on broken classes and so the devs can target them for fixes). Next they went for CM (a popular direction for BHs).

The other Sandbox is what do jedi padawan's do with their spare points - remember they got to train up to 226 points on any proffesion left over from their jedi skills. Most went either TKM or Fencer because the defence is awsome, whack away with your saber then click in a sword and hit CoB to finish the fight.

Much of these changes hang together quite well though I think some of them will only come as part of the combat balance - i.e. I think some confusion may have arisen about which patch they were discussing, clearly some combat balance is going now and realy it should be a rolling programme of fixing things iterativly till they are right.

As for the specific fencer stuff I can certainly see dodge being reduced in the very near future, the other stuff I think is more 'publish 11' territory.

Thoes stuned by the 5 second rifle speed (and I personaly doubt it would go live in that state but I can see it being a starting figure for testing) may want to take it in context of the buff nerf, 1400 dps is pretty good in an environment where people will have no more than 3k HAM and trash regen, though obviously it would have to also be in context of other classes geting reduced damage also.

My personal opinion:

The poster is not lying.

Will the numbers change ? You bet ! (e.g. Patch number, RM delayetc.)

Do some of the mentioned ideas make sense ? Yes.

Cross fingers !

Have fun
