After reading this entire post, I fail to see where the original question was answered. I have to laugh because I was a Pistoleer for many months and the Pistoleer forums were jammed with comparisons to BH. Now that I'm a Fencer I come on here and see the same thing...comparisons to TKA. I guess there is no solutions...everyone wants to be one thing and have the benefits of someone else.


I think the question should be not what makes us unique, but what would make us FENCERS. Having a Stick as my main weapon is just not right...I'm a BladeMaster...give me a Blade! nuff said!

Fencers really belong in the "slightly weird" category of melee professions.

Fencers don't win by hitting harder. That's what swordsmen do. Fencer win by fighting better. To that end, I like affecting our opponents in indirect ways. For instance, having a special that lets you deny the opponent of using specials, or making them cost more. Reducing their accuracy. Slowing them down and slowing their special recovery time. For PvP, forcing a weapon un-equip, forcing an opponent to walk, or reducing their defenses.

Other classes should have a frustrating time facing a fencer. They try to use their "I win" specials on us, and we keep messing up those moves. In essence, we even up the playing field.

if you look at the professions fencer should be


*2nd in speed=the smallest of the weapons but whats faster then not holding nothing in your hand...


*last in toughness=you ever see a fencer, he is not a big brute and dont train and spar that way, they poke each other with sharp objects


*1st in defense=because they can keep at arms reach and have the fastest weapon besides unarmed(unarmed cant keep you out at arms plus leanth)


thre known for not being able to be hit...aka higher dodge skill and other def


*2nd in accracy=are known for (scoreing points) by hitting areas on target..onlything easier then hitting a target with a fast weapon is hitting it with your hand..


hense 2nd in accracy but not the gap they have right now...


3th in damage per hit=we dont weild the huge heavy weapons of pike or two hand sword, but we can are masters of poking you and making it hurt, i dont think

Here's an idea that can solve problems in all combat classes.


We cant catch people to chop them up right? How about instead of giving us a speed burst, make a system of your moving speed related to that of the weight and encumberance of the items you have.


That rifleman in full composite hah try running away in that, ill overtake you in a matter of seconds.


In response, that power hammer hits damn hard, but its hard to run with.


This should incorporate all you are carrying (so you cant just put it away to make a get away), butdoubley on whats equipped, (if its in your hands or on your body its rather awkward)


for the pikeman they need accuracy fixed


This willgive The TKA's, fencers,and pistoleersthe chance to get into ideal range before the rifleman kites them to death. It'll also give a disadvantage to that full composite you've been wearing

I think it would be awesome if a fencer could use two weapons, a primary and secondary weapon, but it would have to be a matched set. i propose that in addition to the dual weapons a defensive bonus should apply, and it should be a master ability.


dueling rapiers:

armor piercing none

speed 4.0

damage 50-125

damage type kinetic

ham costs

health 20

action 30

mind 30

melee defense bonus +20


this would be an average, not uber, pair of weapons. when crafting a set of dueling rapiers the damage and defensive bonus would be inversly proportional so you could opt to have damage incresed at a cost to the defensive bonus.

I think all you people bitching about tka and fencer should be more equal need TO SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE i mean comeon tk artists are trained to fight jedi and resist their force powers. We do need somethings to make our professions more apealing.

Vcardossk, it doesnt matter what the Star Wars lore says should be better or not, that is only there to give the game some flavour, at the end of the day this is a game and in order for the combat professions to be equally popular they must be equally useful and effective. The last thing we want is 90% of the combat players being combinations of TKA, Rifleman, CM and Doctor, which is the current trend. Each profession needs a defined role within the overall scheme of things, it needs to be better in a certain area than any other profession in the game, a Fencer should be top of the list for 1v1 duels as that is what they do best.

I've been a Master Fencer for a long time. To my knowledge I was the first Blademaster on my server, Kettemoor. Of the poeple I play with and interact with, I am known as 'The Die-hard' Brawler. I lived through the 'Don't bring a knife to a gun fight' days, where a novice pistoleer with more Exploration training than I could kite me until I bled to death. The days before Center of Being.


While I would love to see dual wielding. it will never happen. It was tossed out long ago why it was impossible to code when the pistoleers brought it up. Forget it. you'll never see Dual Wielding in SWGO.


Our Defenses as they exist now, in this state of the game, are fine. With CoB up I very rarely get hit. I don't want to hit as hard as a TKA. it would be nice if we were the fastest, but I can handle being the 2nd fastest. What I would really like to see, is what has been mentioned a few times in this thread. and many times in the past:


We are 'Duelists' (as one of our title proclaims) I would really like to see us get a bonus vs fighting a single opponent, PvP or PvE. and ways to influence a 1v1 fight. things such as 'Hamstring' (slow opponent to walking speed, minor defensive debuff), 'Disarm' (attack speed/accuracy debuff) "Full attack" (3 combat rounds of double damage, 4 combat rounds of half defense) "Full Defense" (3 combat rounds of half damage, 4 combat rounds of 75% defense and half movement) and (at Master) Disarm 2 (minor damage attack (3-4 pts of damage) opponent can not use specials for 4 rounds, normal attacks ok + effects of disarm 1)


Specials such as those would go a long way towards making us the 'Feared Duelists' and 'Bodyguards' we were toted to be when I signed up (/grin)

Hmmmmm.... how can a pistoleer want the benefits of a guy who spent 4 times the skill points? TKM is without a doubt the most powerful melee prfession and they spend the same number of skill points so our argument is valid. Before they even hit master TKAs can do unarmed hit 2 every second

Lower the speed cap, thats the main problem id say.


And make the moves look like fencing moves! The specials animations are to slow to.. i might not have much fantasy but once again i gotta suggest our attacks looks a bit more like those raphael uses in soulcalibur 2, and add the unique weapon rapier.

and a really weird thing is that the tk has a longer range wich just makes no sense at all...


And plz i dont wanna run around using a butt ugly gaffi stick anymore.

We definitely need to have something done about the speed cap, and the fact that our 'main' weapon is a stick. Also, our moves should be more like Raphael'sfrom Soul Calibur 2.


In terms of TKA comparisons... well. Lets see. We have 4 Trees dedicated to Combat while TKAs have 3 (One Meditative Tree) yet they can dish out more damage (faster, too) than us? I understand that its OKAY for TKA to be tougher and faster than us, but where are our special commands? (Meditate, Force of Will, Power Boost, Knockdown) Shouldn't we have more, since we are worse off in terms of combat?


Oh well, I won't really cry if we don't get a boost. I just really want to fix the speed cap and graffi stick issues. New animations and/or more weapons WOULD be nice, a boost to our class WOULD be nice, but those things are not that likely. Also, I'd like to see HAM costs lowered more. If we are supposed to be a special spamming class, then why is it that I can't spam specials (without killing myself) while unbuffed?
