Basically the same thing as TK 4/0/0/0, but with cool animations. Fencers ARE style incarnate, after all ;-)

Iknow the objection about the massive ressources in dev time.lets just use our great combat animations,tweak thetimescale to playback in slow motion. it will do the trick VERY nicely.

An Idea for Duel Weapons:

Ok, here is my suggestion since it appears we're going to get this and no doubt the devs are trying to figure out how to utilize it in game:

Make Dual Wield Schematics and an occassional loot drop (not the schematic but the actual weapon)from npcs. Specifically, add Sets to the game. 1 of each possible pairing. This would probably make the coding much easier to do since your essentially just adding a new weapon type this way. Naturally this is probably a lot less work to do than if they try to devise a system where the player randomly selects 2 crafted weapons to equip. Likely the coding will either use both weapons as if they were the *main* weapon and all sorts of other problems presented with that idea.

With sets; the devs can at least take a look at say a stun baton/Ryyk bladecombo and decide on stats for the set with ease.Now, one thing will have to be considered here if this example is taken. Two of each set will need to be available. The reason is so a player can choose which weapon in the set will be the 'primary' favored weapon.

Ok, there's my pitch, I'll leave it to our correspondant and the devs to do the rest.

[17:35] [Blair] We had a motion capture shoot a few months ago and captured motion for duel wielder of weapons.

[17:35] [Blair] One thing we want to do before putting additional professions in the game is make sure all our existing profession are fun.

[17:36] [Blair] So as time goes on you will see us talk more about duel wielding.





Presumably this means they already have some moves planned, and have thought about how to implement this graphically, I think that means that we need to think more about the ingame mechanics and weapon choices, rather than the time needed to implement it.

A new special attack just came to me!


/melee1HandedDisarm - a successful disarm will unequip your targets current weapon.


With the introduction of the weapon change delay, this would actually be quite a powerful attack, it also fits in with my image of a fencer - fast, furious, death by a thousand cuts

Any conclusive idea of what changes we'll see to how we deal damage in the future? I know there was a thread where a person claimed we'd be reduced to only doing damage over time hits. I honestly know that is just hear say; but it does bring up a good question: Are we considered balanced at the moment and looking more at additions to our profession at this point, or, can we still look forward to a 'nerf' in the near future?I'd just assume hear it from someone who knows or at least talks to someone that knows what their talking about.

That said, I've had a further idea for 'battery' opporated swords as has been mentioned a few times. The effect is, I think, a few of us Fencers wanting a tunning affect for some of our swords w/o the use of power ups. A solution to this is to just up the loss of condition rating on the sword while the effect is turned on. A problem area is the fact that we do have power ups which seems to make this idea somewhat of redundant coding for the devs; rather, a messy problem of adding something that, technically, is already there for us to use.But the idea is deffinately worthwhile for being a bit more realistic; Power-tuned swords.

I would like to see a special where we can clear the opponent's combat queue. It's a weird thing to do, but a very power PvP attack without being uber. A variation may be a specials delay, which prevents the use of specials for X seconds (on a 30 second time, as this is very abusable).

I would like to see a special which increases the weapon delay and time on specials. That is, we slow our opponents down. This would also give fencers a unique interaction with high-end content. Likewise, I would also like to see a special which increases the cost of specials from your opponent. Finally, I would like to see an attack which slows down your opponent's top speed.

This fits my image of fencer. They may not kill you fast, but you aren't going to kill them fast either.

I've been preaching the Disarm thing for a long time now, back when I was the Lunatic Fringer, still no word on that though. But let's hope we do see that one in game in the future.

Nice post. Personally myself, It would be awesome to see dual wielding, but that was promised to Pistoleer in October I think and has still yet to happen... so I doubt this will happen for a very very long time and it is not on my list of things that I think need to be addressed.


Fencer can be a great profession for ripping thru noobs in PVP. But really, the way things in PVP have become... anyone that knows anything about PVP knows that all fencers use stun batons in PVP. If you get 42% PVP stun armor, 50% stun PSG and 44% synthsteak, that TOTALLY owns fencer damage. As a pure fencer (b/c I am a doc also) this leaves me nothing else to switch to to attempt to do any kind of damage. I can't switch to another weapon, because the stun baton is the only fencer weapon that is capable of doing any damage whatsoever in PVP. Your best bet at this point is to just keep whacking away in hopes that you will wear their synthsteak down and break their PSG so that you finally bust thru the main defenses and can start doing a little more damage. In the meantime, the other people is also whacking on you, so just hope that you aren't dead by now.


I would like to see a few more weapons added to fencer, as well as a Light AP weapon that actually does damage, in lieu of the Vibroblade that is totally worthless. I love this profession and have mastered it 3 times and I really really hope it gets the attention it deserves because it could be a great profession if just these few minor bugs were fixed. Right now, I'm basically good for ripping thru noobs that don't know to wear stun armor, a PSG and take synthsteak.

I'm very interested instead to see what "sci-fi" can add to one handed melee fighting, namelyarm worn personal shield generators and advanced left arm gauntlettechnology used as a counterweight of sorts... perhaps one would give additional level of armor or increase the base defense caps, and the other would add to damage and or evasion chance. Remember by SWG they've had 20,000 years or so to come up with advances to these primitive fighting styles.

Dude this is Brilliant - I would love to see Fencers with a Left hand held shield - It would counter ranged and Thrown attacks or even melee. Kind of like the Task force in our current world who wield batons and protective gear like hand held shields in riots.

I would have to go with shield cause

A. Could open up some nice new attacks and fencer is more defence then anything else ^_^

B. Looks better

dual wielding stuff looks...ugly and kinda clumsy ya know? like all the really bad ass guys are using one sword and kicking the asses of the clumsy dual wielding guys? ya know? yea thought so

Yes to Shields and Customizable weapons (didnt add that in post...LoL)

Actually thats just gimpy scripting. Its the same reason a single cowboy couldattack a group of100 indians and win without a scratch.


1 sword vs. 2 swords? The 1 sword guy better have a big shield or a big pistol in his other hand. Dual wielding still gives you excellent parrying defenses but blocking takes more work.

Well, we could expand THV's idea of specialization after master and have it branch off to two different paths. Path one could be duel weilding, and path two could be sheild. Just a thought, but it would deffinatly ad more uniqueness to people.
