Thread: Your VOTE for Fencer TOP Fencer Issues (10/4/03)
ack.. I realized that since I was quoting you, it may have been confusing as to which issues were my top six...
They are:
1) Restore Functionality to our status attacks
2) Fix the ungodly HAM costs
3) Fix inability to hit opponent while he's running away from you, and this fix should make damage they can inflict comperable with what we can (ie it's just as difficult for them to attack while moving, as it is us, so we shouldn't have a higher penalty to hit while moving than tanged does)
4) /stick command
5) Increase weapon range
6) Improve/fix status defenses and please add some sort of poison defense

1. Give us a method of stopping/slowing Fleeing opponents.
2. Lower HAM costs, specifically Mind.
3. Fix Begin combat stutter.
4. Higher Melee/Ranged Defense and/or One-handed Toughness.
5. Better AP and more damage types.
6. Better selection of viable 1-handed weapons.
It's hard to answer when you have made very specific categories that leave out possible answers.
For example, I think that melee defense is a very important issue. I don't however think that the real issue is the status defenses (they should work, but that's not as important), or a need for higher defenses/toughness. And while I think that dodge should be better too, again that is not really what I see as the mainissue. I won't get into a discussion of of what I think it is wrong I'll just comment that it's hard for me to select one of those3. Also, I think there are big problems with the speed cap but I don't think that lowering and raising the caps is a good solution, so I'm torn as to what I should vote on. Anyhow, I guess I'm saying (again just constructive criticism), that if you want a strict poll maybe you have to create more general categories that don't leave gaps (i.e. don't leave out various concerns or solutions to problems).
If you need me to pick one defense category, the closest is probably increased toughness/ranged defense/melee defense.
That makes my vote:
1) Speed cap.
2) /stick
3) melee/ranged/toughness defenses
4) Weapon selection.
5) Status attack functionality.
For the record I'm a swordsman, not a fencer. I once was a few boxes into fencer but quit as I just couldn't justify it. I'm answering here though because I'd like to be able to play a fencer again some day (and since TC just got more character slots, I may well start another fencer soon).

Trandoshan Fencer (1,3,1,2)
I use a Vibro blade (damage sliced with advanced core) for specials and a Ryyk for DTS. I have trouble with my mind pool often, but as long as I dont spam specials and rest every few fights, Im not too bad off.
1. Better AP and more damage types.
2. Extend 1-handed Weapons range.
3. Give us a method of stopping/slowing Fleeing opponents.

5)implament dual weilding at the master lv state as a minimum or allow us to dual wield for defense or allow us to disarm our opponet (spelling sorry sleepy)
6.) differnet types of weapon statuses other than kenetic, and our silly Stun billy club.
Fencer 0/4/2/2
1. Improve Dodge. The quantum of the improvement needs to be enormous. The skill is presently next to worthless.
2. Higher Melee/Ranged Defense and/or One-handed Toughness. Again the increase needs to be significant. Currently we cannot survive in melee combat without pets or drugs. That is absurd.
3. Alter the speed cap for Fencers. (0.5 suggested). Our substandard weapons (yes Gaffi also as it is AP0) might perform adequately if we could take fulll advantage of their speed.
4. Lower HAM costs, specifically Mind. In particular the stun baton, which has a prohibitively high mind cost.
5. Give us a /stick command to compensate for Client vs. Server issues.
6. Give us a method of stopping/slowing Fleeing opponents.
I have delliberately omitted the animation issues (which I consider very important) because the developers undertook to correct those in the previous submission of issues. As far as I am concerned we should not be obliged to reassign priority to issues that arebugs and have no business being present in a subscription game four months after release. Moveover, those issues are common to all melee professions and we should focus on fencer issues. My fencer ranking appears in my signature.
1. AP weapons, nothing matters more, make curved swords medium armor piercing just like two handed, they are the same sword made of the same materials, yet one can cut through through almost anything while ours bounces off? how real is that?
2. Weapon selection, Id like to be able to use something besides a Gaffi, make the Vibroblade alittle better looking then a butterknife and of course the Rantok HAS to become craftable... also some throwing weapons of a limited range... 16M maybe like throwing knives, ninja stars etc... would be uber cool
3. Defense mods that really work, id like to parry and dodge things like fencers are supposed to do
4. Dual wielding-why i got into the class in the first place, thought that was going to be something you could do obviously only eligable at master, a way of encouraging people to go all the way up the ladder
5. Speed that works, no, lowering the cap doesnt help us and makes our already choppy animations even look worse... heres an idea SLOW down everybody a second or two (by that i mean the weapons themselves... hence a Gaffi stick at 5spd a Power hammer at 9...) so we can actually enjoy the animations and a cool looking fight rather then this like half a punch, half a swing and i do 3000 damage every second (spamming Melee3) not cool looking, not fun, makes battles a spam fest rather then actually having a moment to think about your next move... heck even at 5spd 1hand master will still hit any kind of cap, so whats the point then?
My issues are as follows
1.) Lower hamm costs, not only for mind but action as well (action not soo bad)
2.) More diversity in weapons (would actually like to see an actual fencing rod)
3.) fix stuttering between attacks, and specials
4.) did i mention lower hamm costs?
5.) Give us something to work for at master, mayhaps the best sword (not lightsaber) you can get, something cool, with low hamm and high power, i mean come on, llc and flame thrower, we dont stand a chance.
6.) reward us for master (yes one-hand hit 3 is cool) but maybe something more, like defense?!?!?!
7.) Please make the vibro blade not look like a butter knife (personal issue) I mean i walk into a cantina and switch to my ryyk or rantok, vibro blade looks a little too weak for the power it can pack.
Although i have read lots of the issues you folks have posted, Fencer or any melee paired with the right class (CH) can be more deadly then any commando or BH could ever be. I soloed my first Dark jedi master tonight with the help of my gruals. Yes it can be done as a melee and dont let any ranged tell you its impossible.
