Oh and someone told me that squad leader bonuses can raise your defenses over the cap as well

1 other way to go beyond the 125cap isfood. I carry moderate-nutritional valuesynthsteak that increases my dodge by 34 for 34 hits. You can get synthsteak with the experimentation points put into the nutrition that is upwards of 40. I found that higher-grade synthsteak didn't make much difference and the duration was much lower. It's PVP focused, but if you're in a serious duel, it's invaluable.

Melee defense reduces the amount of melee dmg received.
Ranged defense reduces the chance of being hit(someone with high amounts of accuracy like those lame bh+pistoleer offensivestackers will always hit you despite your ranged defense).
Dodge is far greater than ranged defense in addition of being used with center of being, since you can dodge get hit and take no damage.
melee defense and ranged defense both help u evade being hit ith they respective weapons...
dodge also helps u avoid damage but it's not as good as range or melee defense
