Thread: So why cant fencers use lightsabers
Because you need the skills in Force to use it accurately and safely. In the SW universe, anyone can pick up a LS and turn it on. The problem lies in the fact that the blade has no mass or weigt. So to be able to swing it with any effectiveness is pretty tricky and hard. Not to mention you run the risk of cutting yourself with it. Thus you need to be trained in the Force skills to use it properly.
Now in the game, they made them only Jedi usable to maintain balance, and to make the jedi feel even more unique.
We should ask the devs to make cortosis ore and make it rare and weak to everything but lightsabers...
shadow armor....... shadow weapons....... death to the jedi
You can't use a lightsaber for the same reason pistoleers can't use a scatter pistol ora launcher pistol.
It's not a wepon for your profession.
It'sa lightsaber. It's for Jedi's only. Take it up with Lucas if you have a problem with it.![]()

**edit** that were talking about the strongest weapon in the game second to the light sabar... it needs to be able to hurt the jedi at least not just stop the lightsabar... it would allow a fencer to go head to head with a jedi alone even... but without Elite Fencer Proffesion it wouldnt matter, we would still get owned because they can use the force... yes a fencer sword with the ore melted downand colted with it and it would glow green when a jedi was near... OMG that would be so tight... we might not last long but what a suprise the jedi would have.... They would even fear us somewhat....

from whati have seen a lightsaber has no length. the weilder uses the force to contain the laser to a certain length. so basically by this logic if a person with no force skills tried to use one it would end up infinetly long, not to mention very dangerous.
then how did Han cut open the Taun-taun (i think that's what it's called) in episode 5? didn't he use Luke's lightsaber?

...Not to mention in Episode 4, Ben Kenobi introduced Luke to the light saber. Luke flipped it on and it was the first time he'd ever even SEEN a light saber. I don't think he was using The Force then (his FS slot wasn't unlocked yet). ![]()
anyway, my take on it:
bottom line, lightsabers are a Jedi weapon. there is no character i have ever seen or read about that used a lightsaber *effectively* in a *battle*. if i see a lightsaber, i don't wonder "hey, is Ewan McGregor a Jedi, or a fencer... hmmm..." i think "yes! kill something! (in the truest Jedi peaceful sense, of course)"
i think the usage of lightsabers by fencers would blur a line between the Jedi and the normal folk which is part of what make Jedi so... well, neat.
plus, it's unnecessary.
