Thread: Weapons we MUST have (In anticipation of the arrival of our new correspondent)

It sounds like you mean a rapier... I'd like to see them introduced as well. Really though, since this is a science fiction/fantasy setting, I'd like to see more options than plain ole steel. The stun batons (when we can get 'em) and the vibroblades are a start- but I'd like to see more 'high tech' options....

I haven't really engaged in any dueling PvP since the lunge/dizzy nerf. Prior to that I did pretty well.

Do you mean an effect that would slow/stop your opponents attack/retreat? Would you want damage to be elimated altogether? Actually.. it would evenmake sense that it drained the mind pool a little...

Every melee weapon is rated for a wound chance. I was suggesting that in place of a wound that a stun baton administer a stun effect identical to the stun effects that other professions get as a special attack. I was not suggesting that the stun baton lose its damage. I do not think that stun baton will ever get a really high damage range because of the potential to be too stong in PvE. I would be delighted if it had a range similar to vibroblades with AP1, even if the HAM cost were higher. I think that would make it a desireable weapon to switch to against armored opponents or opponents with very high kintelic resistances, but the lower HAM cost would still make vibroblades a weapon of choice in many circumstances.
One of the things that really appealed to me about fencer was having to give thought to what weapon to use and how to use it. I have 4 weapons on my hotkeys and use them all sometimes. I think that is how it should be for a profession that is supposed to be about finesse and defense.

I do have a new stun baton, but I was speeaking more as a armorsmith than a fencer. So I know what I would not like to be attacked with in my armor. As fencers only options in damage type are stun and kinetic, I would suggest stun batons against any humanoid in armor. Chances are pretty good it will work better than a curved or vibro.
Against creatures, it all depends, and as often as not, a curved or vibro can be better than a stun baton, all depending on the resists of that creature. In general, with the stun baton, vibro, and curved I have currently, I use the stun baton against armored NPCs and players, the vibro against creatures with armor that have kinetic and stun resists, and curved against nonarmored creatures or creatures with armor but no kinetic resists.
I forget the stats on the different weapons I have, but being a armorsmith, I got enough money to buy the very best I could find of each on Lowca.
I would like to see kinetic divid kinetic into damage/resists.
All extisting armor would have the same resists just in all three types, for example a armor that had
kinetic - 15 would change to pierce - 15 blunt - 15, and slice - 15
New armor that made the same as the would have a total the same but each type may change, for example
The New armor couldpierce - 25 blunt - 05, and slice - 15
Also All existing melee weapons would change
Dagger become pierce, swords become slice, etc etc

I assume this picture comes from the roleplaying game.
It's a variant of the Ryyk blade we have in the game. I suppose it might require some additional coding to get it in, as you can see the handle is at a right angle to the blade. If it was just placed in the standard position of 1-hand weapons, the blade would be situated incorrectly for thrusting moves. For slashing and spinning it would look great, I think.
I'm not even sure which side has the edge, or how it would be wielded, whether the blade would be on the inside of the hand (like the way you would hold a pistol), or the outside.
If it was held underhand, with the blade running along your forearm, I suppose the a thrust would appear as a punch.
I guess it's just another kinetic weapon, but maybe it could be one that requires a higher level of mastery and is either faster, or more damaging, or both.
I do alot of PvP and dueling, and i have to say that i dont really see this terrible dizzy/lunge nerf effecting me too much. As long as i land a successful dizzy on an opponent i follow it through with lunge, and 95% of the time its effective against players. Now against NPCs the success rate seems a little worse, but still a good 70%.
Not many weaponsmiths are willing to use their best quality resources, time, effort, expiermentation, or produce in mass quantities the stun baton. Even since the implementation of the advanced core. I am on eclipse and i still havent found any of the known master weaponsmiths that have produced any number of these. Dominous for one i know hasnt ever made one, i asked him just yesterday......
The reason is, that Fencers are few in number and its not worth it for them to make stun batons when they can pump out vibroblades and sell them MUCH faster.....

Interesting... but don't you think this might actually *hurt* us?? We aren't able to id people's armor....so we wouldn't know which weapon/attack to use to overcome the armor as best as possible.
Of course, if they give us back our dizzy/lunge, I am all over armor changes that would benefit ranged against our specials (ie lunge with dagger being a 'pierce' attack)

Yanno Daigoro, that actually looks like a short handledscythe or sickle of sorts- which is what the 2 handed have (but isn't being made- at least not on our server)..
Pretty formidable anyway- I can see a great big old wookie kickin a *lot* of butt with one.
