I've done every entertainer profession (2 were for holos though, I'll admit it) and I understand where you are coming from. This set of professions is a novel concept, and I've loved having it in the game, but the implementation is lackluster and blaise.

I myself have TK mediate 4. I can heal ALL my wound except battle fatigue, and so I only visit the cantina for that. I admit to using that time to alt-tab out and look at the boards, or move my alt around on his computer. I know that most of the entertainers that are in the cantinas are afk, and more often than not the ones that aren't are silent.

There's simply not a lot to do in the entertainer professions besides press F1-F8. And while I'd love to see that get better, I also know that there's so much other stuff that the devs have to deal with. DE is getting a revamp, so is smuggler I hear, and there's the combat revamp as well. most of the time, any specific attention that a profession gets is usually a nerf, unless they have been planning the change for 4 months, like chef.

Player cantinas are by and large a bust on my server. I hardly see anyone in the one in my city. every good entertainer knows that you need to be in a group, and no 20 entertainers are going to leave Coronet or Theed and go to a player cantina when staying put gives the same effect.

I feel for you, and I hope your profession can find it's revamp.

When I first started playing, I used to hang out in Keren. Running missions. Crafting for myself. Basically, I was a self-sufficient low level player.

I would go to the Cantina to get healed and would usually find 2-3 entertainers. I would sit and watch/listen while chatting briefly about my adventures. The entertainers would laugh with me while I talked about yet another attempt to slay something tougher than me. Then they would wish me well and hope to see me again soon.

They did see me again soon. Because it was a nice 10 minutes spent there. No-one would flirt with me. No-one would beg for tips. It was a nice social break, and I do not want to be social AT ALL. Yet it was such a nice environment that I couldn't help but to enjoy it.

Now....

Well, we all know how it is now. I haven't seen anyone in a Non-capitol Cantina for months, save for the occasional appearance in remote outposts, and that's usually someone just dancing for their guild/hunting party.

The capitol cantinas are a complete joke. People are now in the entrances. You don't even need to go into the main part of the cantina to get healed, and let's face it - who would want to? It's so crowded you don't know which way to look - MOST of the people there are AFK, and those that aren't don't have a chance with all the AFK spam filling the room.
Yukk.

Yeah, plugging mp3s into coding is so hard.(sarcasm off) You have to have a sound file and then have the coding search for that sound file, something I learned in beginning programming. I think the hard part you are talking about is the time it would take to look through all the game coding to find where to place the sound coding because if you were talking about how hard it is to code sound then there is no hope for this game....

and coming up with new flourish animations that correspond to the music, etc... might take longer than you think

And variations on the song done to the sound of each instrument, and coding the synchronization of the song for "bands."

Cut the devs some slack here. Unless the new songs are available at entry level, they'll hardly get used since a band is only as good as it's lowest level member. When I ground out Master Dancer, I was thanking god every day for the mute button. You could have a million songs in the game and you'd still get sick of them if you spent a reasonable amount of time in a cantina becauase they're not really songs like verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus. They're more like extended riffs with flourishs.

Do these guys actually ever log into the game and play,,?? If they dont understand how big the afk problem is thru out the entire game ,,they just arent paying attention. And maybe if they do play ,,do they actually try to master anything,,or just dabble in each profession around. Honestly,,some of their comments and answers arent very believeable ,,and most are lip service in my opinion

Letting people use macros to gain experience or loot while they're AFK is GAME-BREAKING. It's not "the nature of the beast". It's "the currentplague of this game".

As far as I'm concerned, these AFK macro-zombies don't have as many rights as the people who are actually at the keyboard. Why? Because the AFK macro-zombies ARE NOT ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME....

Nice try. But in reality, AFK and Entertainer macro'ing are independent variables.

Before the wretchedHologrind came along, the most common use for Entertainer macros was to make sure that the XP gain goes on *in the background* while you do something else in the foreground. You stand in the Cantina and shoot the **** with Hug'gee Bun'nee, a Twi'lek chick wearing something that looks like Cher fought with a tape dispenser and lost. You get all kinds of emotes, tells, groupchat, etc, etc. You spend your whole "Socializer" game play session. And the XP gain goes on in the background. So you can't say they're "not playing the game," they are playing it, they're right there talking to you. But the XP gain is on autopilot.

wow Im glad im not an entertainer. So basically the devs know there isnt much to do. But they arent gonna change that lol.

But given the audience that they're trying to satisfy with that catagory of professions, they don't need to give them something else to do. The professions exist to give the socializers a place in the eco system of the game. If you want something else to do, master a second crafting or combat oriented profession as the devs are encouraging us to do with the mix and match profession theory. I ground my way through master dancer. I didn't enjoy the profession but I did get a chance to meet a lot of people that I normally wouldn't and I enjoyed chatting with them. I don't care spend 11.95 a month for a big 3-D Star Wars themed AOL chat room though. For a lot of the people I met in the entertainers group, that's exactly what they're looking for.

I hear a lot of talk about afk entertainers. It's gonna happen and TH is right, they can spend all their time trying to stop people from doing it, but some people will always try to "game the system" so they have an advantage over everyone else. I know in DAoC they tried to stop AFK crafter grinders and did have some success maybe, but people still slipped through the cracks. The next step in the evolution is the "buff bot" Buff bots were one major reason I quit DAoC.

The elite powergamers, PvP players, will get 2nd accoutns and become entertainer, dancers, doctors and use these characters to buff themselves and their friends. This happend in DAoC too. These people turned the entire healing profession into nothing more than a joke.

TH is correct that no matter what you do, players who like to cheat, will always find a way to cheat. Yes they can eliminate in game macros, but people will create keyboard macros like they do in other games. In AC we had people who created entire combat macros to level their characters. AFK macro players have been a problem in every game I've ever played. It's really a game development problem. How do you reward a player for doing something and punish them for grinding it out. No online game has yet solved this reward system.

I think entertainers have filled their role fairly well. I wish they had a bigger role. Other types of entertainment options. I joined an entertainment troop and this has really increased my enjoyment. We play at player cantinas for parties, weddings, whatever they want to pay us for. Creating and maintaining a player troop requires a fair bit of social and organizational skills. More than most players want to put in, thus why many just flock to the same old cantinas they hate.

Many Many cantinas are empty. This is the old chicken and the egg thing. We want an audiance, therefore we flock to the places where people are: Coronet and Theed, even while we despise them. I constantly wish their were an entertainer in my home town cantina because when I get hurt, I'd rather visit there than another place. But as an entertainer, how long do I want to play in an empty cantina hoping someone comes in to visit.

The Mission Terminal "Gig" idea with an XP bonus is a fantastic idea. I mean, that 76 credits you get for entertainer missions is great and all but.....

picklesSW,

when the player that was reported is still afk when the CSR checks him, a week after the report maybe, well, then youre right. The rest of the time, which is 99.99% of the Time, there is no CSR who can react immediately to such reports.

And sorry, by telling people its not allowed to drive faster than xx miles does not prevent them from driving faster.

If you are not able to enforce a law, it makes no sense to make a law.

This is just the usual afk discussion and its made hunders of time before. SOE said its ok, they dont like it either, but they accept it. Live with it the same way as you deal with a BH if he killed you cause youre just an entertainer who tried PvP: Whine about it or just take it as the way the game is ment to be played. I prefer those who dont whine :-)

you know if they are going to let afk entertaining be in the game and destroy the proffession, then they should have a /delegatemusicexpericance ect ect cmd... that way i give them my 900k music xp sitting there for no reason, make money and get rid of the afk'r while i know this would have inherant problems too, it sure would help the rampent afk

Judging by these non-answers it looks like they didn't even look at the questions until he was forced to sit down ad type up and answer. The DEVs are doing a real disservice to the entertaining professions with these answers.

"Yes, it was a problem prior to the first Jedi slot being unlocked, but it wasn't a problem before Holocrons were introduced. "

Actually, it was. ('It' being 'afkers') It just wasn't as BIG a problem. That's like saying, 'well you're onlysort ofdead'.
