When is this correspondent's month over? We need someone who will focus on real issues, not pet ones.

I know this is a touchy subject but how about we compromise...

I personally do not believe in AFK macroing, but macros themselves are quite useful. I am a HORRIBLY slow typer... so I run a 16 flourish macro while I play my horn. This leaves me free to pick at the keys and try to greet or respond to people. So macros are a wonderful addition when they are not abused.

I also do not think that AFK entertainers running macros should receive XP or tips. They should at best receive them at a substantially reduced rate.

To make this work, the"penalty" for being AFKcould possibly begin after being AFK for 5, 10 or 15 minutes, which, with a 15 minute AFK timer would still give the entertainer up to 30 minutes before it would reduce or stop their advancement.

To do this the option the toggle auto AFK would have to be removed, but you could still set the length of time before you are displayed as AFK.

This would still give more than a fair amount of time to people who have to grab a drink, use the facilities...etc... while making it less advantageous to people who log on and go to work or school and leave their entertainer grinding away and annoying others.

Just an idea... what do you think?

I'm going to strongly encourage that SOE work on a way to end AFK Entertainer macroing...just wanted to give you a heads up. Its becoming a huge problem both to other entertainers and other players...its also giving us a really bad reputation in the community.

Those praising me form a line on the right....

Those burning me in effigy form a line on the left...

I just have to ask this (and I willingly accept the flames):

  1. Are you doing it because you have a strong hatred of it?

  2. Are you doing it because you feel that's the opinion of the forum community?

  3. Are you doing it because you feel that's the opinion of the ingame community?

I have no idea what being a "Team Lead" means. Does that mean just leading the forum community?

If so, then you gotta know by now just how different a forum community is from an ingame one. There is no better example of an issue than AFK macroing.

The forum community appears adamantly opposed. In the last four weeks, I've found exactly two people who adamantly opposed it ingame. The rest were casual about it. Not for them but fine for others. And they won't miss it when it goes away.

I think it'll go away. It goes against the intent (though not the letter of the law) of the EULA.

But the forum community does not represent the ingame community in an approximation opinion. It's dedicedly slanted by the very nature of forum posters being very different from ingame players. People who seek to be heard out of the game have a reason to do so. That is the main reason why casual ingame issues can generate such vitriolic rage out of game.

It's not a slight against anyone. I'm as active on forums as anyone else here (though not on these forums). It's just that those who come to profess something about a feature don't speak for eveyrone that doesn't.

Dude, this is an excellent post! I couldn't have said it better myself.

This is a non-issue. Whether or not AFK macroing is acceptable is up to Sony, not us. We can offer an opinion on it, but will not be an opinion that represents all entertainers/musicians/dancers, it will only be an opinion that represents this boards users.

Its a waste to even put this in the report, the report is to address issues, bugs, deficiencies. AFK macroing does not fall into any of these categories.

Put real issues in that affect the whole community.

Sorry, absolutely against SOE touching the macro system. I've found that fixes usually aren't and the only way to stop people will be to remove the system entirely. Since the macro system is extremely useful, I'd prefer to deal with AFK macro'ers in my usual way rather than have SOE screw everything up and make life unbearable. We have 2 doors to choose from, one we know what is behind, one we do not. Don't assume that the door that we haven't tried is better.

Also, side note. I find it completely unethical and totally inappropriate for the correspondent to even dare take this stance with his track record. Absolutely shameful and disgracefull. If I could, I'd ask for a recall and strip his entertainment skills for this display.

Just had to throw my opinion in about AFK-macroing like everyone else

As an entertainer, I just don't see a need for it. You want to be an entertainer? Entertain! I don't go into the cantina to get xp, I go in to meet people.
As a Surveyor (maxed out Survey skill) I'm all for AFK-macroing. Surveying is dull, boring, lonely work. And with the limited time I have to play every week, I don't want to spend it out in a field doing nothing or running around to put what few credits I have in harvesters.

I'll deinfately be on the right! (The praising line (in case you mean your right instead of my right... :-)

I've had a few incidents in the few days where there were just too many AFK entertainers in the cantinas to be noticed as a live entertainer.

Thank you for picking up this cause!

People are complaining about the issues coming from the correspondant not the masses. However the correspondant is allowed to have their pet issue. And I personally support this one.

I dan't support this one, cause the things he wan't to take away is some of the things i use to compose our songs in our band Astral Fantasi, things like the Aliases, cause sometimes a music score is longer than just what can be in a macro. And i don't want 3-4 macroes just to play a single song.

With the UI action taken away i know a lot of our dancers will have to be more quick on the keyboard when changing cloth in our performance, so they don't end up half naked on the dancefloor.

All in all this will ruin or give us a lot more headaches when performing, than it will do good. And you will hurt those Entertainers that have a valid use for the things. I can't give a **OWN EDIT** with people Macroing to the stars, cause they are just gonna me 5 minutes stars, cause they don't know how to play good music anyhow.

At a last thing, if you take this away, people will use 3rd party tools, like they do for any other game. I think there is a reason to why SOE made all these things, like overlay map, a little radar and such, that's to stop the standard people from trying to alter their code or otherwise revers it, to make those kinda programs. Cause they know if they don't give it to the people, people will find a way to get it anyway.

I normally dont post about things like this but oh my people, stop whining. I made it to master dance with NO MACRO, hiting f1.. f2 ..f3, was able to talk to people in /tells, group chat, guild chat and thank people who came in the cantina. And might I add never asked anyone for a tip and bought all of my higher level dance skills .. but thats another thread.

Do the work, its more pleasing to know you worked at something then just went AKF.Sheesh is it so hard toreach up and hit one key? I mean come on. I know a lot of other entertainers who sat there as i did and worked their butts off.

This has nothing to do with the fact that we might be against the AFK macros in the groups, what I do is if a person in the group havn't said (s)he would be AFK for a few, and i can't get in contact with the person over some time, ill kick the person from the group.

But the real problem is in how they are gonna remove the AFK macroing, and that is what i'm against, and if i have a choice i would rather have people able to macro than loosing the benefits of the Macro/Alias/UI CommandAction...
