"but I'm not going to pay you full price for it when it doesnt cost you anything to click on me and hit teach. "

This is the most ridiculous statement I've heard yet. I don't expect full price but I expect some kind of tip. Of course it costs me to teach you; when you're ahead of the curve you have to pay for your own training, unless people are pooling money together to get skills. That's all I was saying in this thread, that I think entertainers should tip something for training, no matter how small. It's just common courtesy. But I consistantly run across the attitude that entertainers are somehow exempt from tipping for training. Like I've said before, I don't charge upfront for training. Also, I've long since capped out my Apprentice points; I don't need any more! That's not a good arguement people. Not everyone is going to master a profession.

I dance in a cantina on Corellia on Starsider. I'm into Dancer. We all invite anyone who is seen dancing or playing. Though there have been times that we split into two groups simply because the advanced players didn't want to play sw1. We will teach any one in our group for free, like someone said earlier it's pretty much a...who can stop the fastest kinda thing. I have never been tipped for training though I have tipped others (but not for any of my entertaniment skills) Now that we have a clouple of us in Dancer we are splitting the trees and each person pays for one and we all teach each other that way not one person is paying for everything. There were even a couple of times that we asked our regular customers to chip in because we were just a few hundred creds away from training and no one wanted to leave. They did willingly give btw.

I don't know if it my server, my planet, or my town but I what I hear on the boards is so different that what I experience in game. We are all very willing to share. We don't have undie dancers as I have heard so many complain about. (unless we are joking around and go topless but it usually doesn't last long). I love my cantina and my band.

Well I think that is all. Have fun.

This thread thoguh has been a good read boils down to greed.

I love being a musician

I love training those lower for free (I will never charge)

Most of my training has been through peoples generousity, but I have had to bite the bullet and purchase a few skills, but hey i was more than glad to share.

If I want/need cash I will do mission, most are quite easy for very little work. They do take you away from your ability to work on you xp, but oh well

I love travelling and visitng the local cantinas. I started off in Dearic (Talus) and have now travelled throughout Corellia and to Tatooine where I picked up a traz, kloo horn, fanfarand met a very cool musicians whoare quite into the skill trees. I made friends in every Cantina and that to me is what it's all about. I am proud to say everywhere I go I meet good people and have a blast. I entertain while waiting for shuttles, and when I came home I play this game to not be the first person to get anything, but to enjoy every aspect of healing peoples minds and providing them with entertainment. Greed will kill this profession.

Have fun with it man, relax and enjoy the vibe Stop stressing over a few credits

GodI, if you will read what I said right above that "ridiculous" statement, I said that I do tip for training, but I am not going to pay full price for it from a PC. If I wanted to do that, I'd just /find trainer:entertainer and do my business there instead of searching for someone to train me for a discount in exchange for apprentice points which you need anyway if you hope to be a master.

Entertainers that always complain about tips from customers (and 95% DO that) and on the other hand expecting training for free are the most hypocrit bunch of people in the galaxy.

I for myself train everyone up to my skill level on demand without asking for a charge - but I am very happy when I get a couple of credits in return, just to show me appreciation. When I get trained in a higher tier skill, I always tip between 1500 and 2500 cr happily because I know how hard it is to get money together, and I already payed over 12k cr for NPC trainings.

If I train someone a high tier skill that would cost 8 or 10k at NPC trainer, and I get not a single cr as tip, I don't complain or say anything, I just think to myself "what bad manners".

Be fair and a bit more realistic on that 95%. I would put it more around 50%. I have played in various cantina's and can honestly say I have only seen 15-20 entertainers ever complain about tips, and only 5-10 regularly complain about tips.

But yes there is a small group of people that have earned this reputation for the rest of us. But I ask you to not paint us all with the same brush. I find in certain areas it is worse...but most usually stop once they have been enlightened to gig/delivery missions. It is the lack of knowledge on this subject that has most entertainers that ask for tips or complain about a lack of tips garnering this reputation. Mission and instrument sales fund what I want to do, which is travel and jam with all different sorts of people. If credits is what you want most in this game, do missions or get a new profession.

An entertainers life is usually a rough go...unless you are a super-flirty scantily clad hard working female dancer

As to training, at Mos Espa Cantina on Starsider training is quite free. We all pull together to help keep each other trained, in fact when someone asks for training it's usually a race to see who can stop and get them. As with performing, my feelings on the subject are if someone wants to tip me, great. If they don't, that's fine too. It's not that hard to take 30 minutes or so for a couple of trips to Mos Eisley and back if I need extra cash.

That exactly the way it is in the Naboo Theed cantina on the radiant server.... everyone is so friendly, I have met so many wonderful people there its what keeps me playing. It is also a race to see who can train someone when they ask sometimes their would be 4 muscians who all stop playing cause they want to train and we all laugh at each other saying haha I got him/her first....i'm not kidding....I have gotten all my skills free except Music I and I also give free training if they ask. If your going to start a muscian or dancer on the radiant server come to the Naboo Theed Cantina you'll get a warm welcome and a group if its not full....this place is packed and exp is good.

Word has already gotten out, we have other entertainers who left there starting city to master in Theed, and the city of often packed and the war that goes on almost everynight keeps the exp high.

I have never paid for training nor been paid for training someone else, and the demand for apprenticeship xp is so high I've seen people in Theedoffering to pay their students!

If you keep asking to join a group and nobody invites you and they also don't appear to be talking, they'reAFK macroing. Seriously! Do you think they got to novice musician in one week byspending thirty hourssitting infront of the keyboard jabbing function keys? They're not responding because they're not there. They're probably not even in the house with their computer.

In my opinionmacroing is kind of silly, but at this point in timethat's the way it is. Half the singers and dancers in the cantina aren't even there, (AFK) tags notwithstanding. It has nothing to do with politeness.

"You're no martyr, you're doing that to earn xp. Nothing wrong with that, just don't try to pass yourself off as doing it out of the kindness of your heart."

Wow, are you clairvoyant or just guessing at his intentions? geez...people get insulted even for trying to be nice around here...

You do get paid for training.

you get paid in apprentice points. you'll want them later, trust me.</quote>

Sorry wrong answer my character is capped at 1240 app experience and still trains anyone that needs (if there is not someone else in the group that needs the app). I don't ask to be paid for training but I am taken aback at how rarely I have been tipped for the training I have always given. When I first started dancing and had no money I was grateful for the comraderi of the entertainment community that not only welcomed the newbie to their group but trained me up a few levels for free and I since that time I have always rewarded that community spirit by tipping and tipping well for training. In order to do this I have spent about 1 hour out of every 8 in game doing missions and by doing so I have always had the funds to tip my trainers when there was one available and to keep myself in decent costumes and other equipment. I've been lucky recently in finding a lower populated cantina with a wonderful crowd that is happy to find a performer and therefore my last few levels of training I have been able to pay my trainers (as well as my harvester rent) completly out of tips although I still do missions when I'm tired of cantina life or when going on tour to supliment travel expenses.

I hear ya, buddy! There's this really annoying fat human who does this occassionally on my server. Hilarious...

As for the tipping thing, I always tip for training I receive, and am always grateful for any tips got for training others. I never ask outright, though (either for training tips or tips for performing to people). Occassionally I'll say something along the lines of 'tips are always appreciated but never necessary,' but that's mainly a hint to any newbies who don't realise it would be nice to tip.

I think ya gotta be realistic in that this profession is never really going to pull in the big money. It's easier to role-play a struggling musician when you're short of cash!

I've never tipped for training, nor been tipped. I've paid for a few of my trainings (music 3-4), but I don't really care. If I want money, I'll work for it. Clicking 4 times and expecting to be tipped 1.5k is absurd.

I macro a lot (insert grumblings here), but it is usually because the cantina/theater/hotel is empty, and I'm reading a book. If people start coming in, I'll start playing again. Even so, my computer crashes before an hour goes by... grrrr..

Music isn't about levels. Starwars1 can even sound alright with bandfills and such (yes, I'm still sick of it after 10 minutes, but it IS better than 15 slitherhorns). I just got Music4 this morning, and want to play it, and if I have to go to rock, I'll probably just work on my dance moves (wookiee + dancing = funny)
