Thread: Rude?

Well, my sorta point was that it is easy to get money in game; I have money, why don't the other entertainers? I understand the commarderie that free training creates; that's why I don't charge upfront for training. Butsome compensation I think should be implied when you're training someone in higher skill levels. This is how I tip for training: nothing for tier 1, 500 for tier 2, 1000 for tier 3, and 2000 for tier 4; not sure what I'll do at the higher levels.

There were a lot of good points about why people aren't joining bands; I wil try to keep a more open mind.

I'm one of those people who walks into a cantina and starts dancing. Why? Because at every cantina I've been to, someone always invites me anyway. I didn't know that people took offense to that. It happens every time I walk into a cantina... I guess I should be more courteous from now on.

As for training, I started out on Kor Vella with a group of entertainers. Whoever got up to the skill first would go train and people would chip in the money for their training. That way, everyone could eventually get trained.

But most places I've been to, the entertainers had another job so while they asked for tips, they were really never competing against each other. Or they could have been and I was just too oblivious to notice. Hehe.

All of you should come on the Bloodfin server. Bloodfin: Where the customers can be so mean, the entertainers have to stick together. :-P

When I'm on Naboo, Tantoone, or in Coronet, the people there seem very self-centered. I ask if there's a band going (although I already see one's going due to bandflourishes), and get ignored. I shrug, a few minutes later ask if I can get an invite to the group. Wait another few, and see if I can again- if three times they ignore me, then bah for them and I'll preform right in front of their faces to spite them. They could at least say something like "Sorry, this is a PA only group" or "We're sharing xp for a mission" or "We think you're dress looks funny so we don't want you". Ignoring me is just going to get me mad.

When I'm in the smaller cities, though, things work great. You go in to a cantina, start dancing and as your typing in 'Can I join the band?' an invite's already popped up on your screen. Less competing for tips there because there's less people coming in- you're mostly on your own, with one or two people coming in occasionally- and usually, a player in the band is friends with those people coming in, so they'll get the tip no matter what you do (if there is any). You spend more time talking to the other entertainers is the group then interacting with customers.

As for teaching skills... I suppose I'm guilty of not paying much for being tipped. I've yet to raise 1000 to my name yet, because as soon as I reach 500 I go and buy resources to make meds. That's alright with me- I could run missions, but I would rather be dancing/healing instead of running around town unless I really need the money. Thus, the most I can usually donate is 200, even for the higher tier skills. I try to let the people know though that I owe them a favor, and if they ever need anything from me- training, resources, healing, a partner, or a shoulder to sob on ;P- that I'll be there.

I don't know. I guess everyone's playing styles are different. ^^

I don't consider it rude to not ask to join the group. Some of the valid reasons are already listed, and the cantina is a public place, so people can go in and play when they want to and for as long or short as they want to. If it is in a player's own house and that happens, that would be rude. Then again, when they have their own house, whoever goes into it are probably invited.

As for tipping, yes... tip entertainers well. Plain and simple. It might also be a good idea to tip in accordance to your mind wounds and battle fatigues. If you come in with a bagillion battle fatigues and mind wounds, it is only fair to tip entertainers more. I can't speak for all others, but if you can heal action damages, most entertainers will appreciate that too (perhaps it could even replace a tip) considering the longer we flourish, the more xp's we get.

Now for a real rant: People coming into the cantina and demanding us to strip or dance or play.... and they don't tip. Where do they get off?

Well, Daisy, my main rant was not that tipping was low from customers, just that, for all the complaining I hear from entertainers about poor tipping, they never tip any creds when I train them; I'm feeling like I'm doing all the work and they climb up the ranks on my back. See, they can sit in the cantina all day and grind xp while I run around doing missions to raise money to pay for my training; then they expect me to train them for free without any effort on their part. But I guess that's the way it is...I haven't gotten much sympathy in this thread so I guess I'm in the minority.

On the subject of poor tips: Last night a guy came in to the cantina with every HAM bar completely black. Even with Ent Heal 4 it took a long time to heal him and I was the only entertainer in the joint. I don't ask for tips; I feel it only alienates people. Guess what? This guy didn't tip me credit one for all my work. He and another person were healing me to keep me going; guess they thought that was my reward, I don't know. Maybe what goes around comes around, we shall see.

Godl,

It wasn't the non-tipping that I was really ranting about... it's people being ungrateful and DEMANDING. I think it's just plain rude to demand other people to do stuff for you then show no appreciation in return. I blame the lack of parental guidance in those players' rl for that. I have also dropped performing a while ago (keeping only ent healing 4 to aid my group in battles.) Entertainer was one of my main professions in beta, and I love how they work... everyone knows everyone else because they're there regularly... and they pool money together to train and benefit everyone else in the group (that way no one is riding on no one else's back.) I have to say, dancing in the cantina all day isn't exactly a fun job. It's tedious and mind draining... having to see the same dances and hearing the same notes play over and over and over pressing those dreadful flourish buttons... God, spare me the monotony and give me a gun!

Weird, inour cantina we all chip in for new skills (actually, we chip in for a plane ticket to Tatooine so someone can go train for cheap), and then whoever has the least apprentice points gets to train the person who just gained a skill level. I guess it is probably different wherever you go, but this is one reason it's important to start developing a "band" and stick together.

"Geez...and that was after I spent a few hundred credits worth of stimpacks healing their action while they danced!"

You're no martyr, you're doing that to earn xp. Nothing wrong with that, just don't try to pass yourself off as doing it out of the kindness of your heart.

When I don't group with people, it's mostly because I'd rather cut off my own ears than hear SW1 or Rock song one more time.

I don't see a problem with people playing ungrouped. I noticed that I usually get an invite as soon as I say "hi". Maybe they don't want to group because they want to play their favourite song that others maybe can't play. I sometimes leave my group for a while to play a round relaxing folk That might cut the XP gain, but XP isn't everything (tho I mostly get very excited when I'm close to a new skill ).

As for training, I always got trained for free, but I always tipped even when people said it's not needed. I got training, they got cash. It really isn't that hard. On the other side I never ask for tips, no matter if for healing or training. If I get tips I say thank you, if not.. well, the world still keeps moving

I always try to join a band in progress when I go to the Cantina. However, a lot of times the band leader is AFK and just has a macro running to keep doin bandflourishesand no one elsecanbeadded to the group till they get back. Therefore, I just kinda find an empty spot near them and start jamming until the leader returns. I usually dont get any Ent. Healing XP since people like to listen to the band rather than the soloist, but thats ok since it comes in like twice as fast as music xp anyway when you have a nice crowd.

As for tipping, maybe entertainers dont tip very well because we're always broke? You know how hard it is to find nice clothes that we can afford?? Personally I run around with about 200 creds in the bank and probably 50-100 on me at all times; just enough to take a couple quick delivery missions if i need cash. I like to do a bit of exploring and combat too, and in order to do that you need to clone and insure the important stuff (instrument, weapon, favorite clothes), which costs over 1000 creds, which is a considerable sum for an entertainer (I usually have to do 2 out of town delivery missions to pay for cloning). WheneverI get someone to train me, I'll throw a couple hundred credits at them, more if I have extra cash and its an important skill, but I'm not going to pay you full price for it when it doesnt cost you anything to click on me and hit teach.

I play in Coronet, on Radiant. A lot of days I end up being group leader, simply because I'm AFK the least.

Here's my guidelines for inviting people:
1> If you start dancing, I'll invite you.
2> If you start playing music, I'll ask you if you can play the same song the rest of the group is playing, and if not what your best song is. If we'd have to drop at most one song, I'll invite you. It's not that we hate newbies, it's that we hate StarWars1 and aren't going to switch to it every time someone new arrives. Those who can't play often dance.
As a general courtesy, if you're already playing, stop playing before accepting the invitation. That way the sounds don't mix.
2a> If you enter with an instrument in hand, see #2.
3> If you have a Dancer or Musician title, I'll invite you. Basic assumption is that we're always playing SW2, Folk, or SW3, so anyone with Apprentice Musician or better can play.4> If I've seen you in there before, I'll invite you. This includes if you're a Medic or customer who's decided to try out Entertainer for a while.
5> If you ask, I'll invite you.

We pretty much always train each other for free, especially for Entertainer skills. The more advanced Dancer and Musician skills are rarer and more expensive, so most people will chip in for that.
