Oh, let me clarify.

I play an entertainer on Naritus. She's never been off Naboo though and the strike was in Coronet. I asked the other entertainers on Naboo in Moenia and Keren, on Naritus, and none of them even knew it had happened. A couple applauded. Most of the reactions were amused interest, sort of "cute idea but I would not do it myself." And several of the more experienced types said, "That was not smart."

I didn't ask about tips but my guess is this would only affect people in Coronet, since it only lasted one day, and most of the people on Naboo and elsewhere have no idea it even happened. I only know about it because I read these boards.

That's another fun thing to notice: 90% of people in game don't seem to read the forums.

I think you should tip your entertainers, if they are doing a good job -- roleplaying, mixing up flourishes, etc -- i.e. trying to entertain as much as possible within the game engine. I just don't think entertainers should go out on strike if they feel like people aren't tipping them enough. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar, as the saying goes....

I just fundamentally disagree with the mentality of the tactic, and it bothers me to see it on Naritus, since I play there. If it were another galaxy I'd not even have commented. But this has the potential to bleed over into my character's IC life if it starts happening on other worlds, or if she ever takes it into her head to visit Corellia. I don't want people to jeer at her just because she is an entertainer... which they very well might start doing if this sort of business continues.

-If i walk into a cantina and there are a couple separate dancers i will /watch one of them and after im finished i will tip that person.

-If i walk into a cantina and there is a group of like 8+ people there is no well in hell im tipping all of you, since it would be unfair to tip just one since you are benifiting from the whole group i wont tip anyone.

Except for the couple of exploits that pop up sometimes, money is NOT easy to get as a fighter. If im trying to level up i dont have time to sit there and do 5k missions all day just to tip my entertainers. I have meds, buffs, foods, spices, armor, weapons, powerups, and more to pay for. Sorry, its nothing personal i just cant waste my money that way. If you want money you can go do missions like the rest of us. If you cant do destroy missions do delivery missions.

You don't have to tip a lot. It's the thought that counts.

Say there is one dancer and you would tip her 500. If there are 10 performers, tip each 50. Same amount for you, nice for all of them. Or, if you want to be lazy about it, it's fine to tip ONE and say, "Please split this with everyone else." Let the dancer do the long division and splitting of the tip if you want.

As for, "I have money to spend on my own stuff so I am not going to waste it tipping you," well, my dancer is also an artisan and needs to go out surveying and do some crafting. Maybe she doesn't have the time to bother dancing to heal you either.

Last Saturday when I logged into the game I happened to be inside the Moenia cantina and my intention upon logging in was not to dance, it was to survey. I needed resources to make myself a jacket and some other things that I had just learned how to make earlier in the day. I had no intention to dance and really did not want to. But when I logged in there were 4 combatant types, people just like you, sitting in the cantina and it was empty of any performers. When they saw me with my "Apprentice Dancer" sign (which I take off manually when I remember but which the game keeps annoyingly putting back on me every time I log in) they begged me to dance for them, and heal them up. One guy had 474 BF. Another had an almost entirely black M bar.

If I had an attitude like you seem to have, I'd have said, "Sorry guys, I need to go out surveying" and just walked out. But I didn't. I stayed and danced for them. And more people kept coming in, and I kept dancing for them too. Why? Because they needed it, and because as an entertainer healing people is what she is supposed to do, even if it isn't what is going to earn her the level-up in what skills I would like to work on at the moment.

You should tip your entertainers. If you don't you deserve to have them not dance for you -- on an individual basis. I totally understand the frustrations of the Coronet entertainers. What I do not agree with is their tactics, which I think are doomed to failure. People who don't want to tip or who look down on the entertainment profession ("go do missions like the rest of us" implies that you do) are not going to start respecting them over this strike -- it just makes the situation more adversarial.

I will say this. My character dances because she loves it and she would not give it up for anything. BUT, if I had gone out of my way to dance for an hour for people when I really was in the mood to go out surveying and they had not tipped, I would have jotted down names and never danced for those people again. Fortunately that didn't happen, and instead I added several of them to my friends list (the ones who RPed well and were extra friendly).

Striking not a good idea because it hurts the good players too. Last week I only earned 400 credits in prob 20 hours of play. We didnt have many customers and got a lot of profuse ty but no tips. Lots of ppl feel entertainers have no need for credits but since we work we do like getting some kind of pay lol. We also would like to have homes and be able to pay that bill too.

One fix would be cover charge but that would be low and then split between all entertainers in cantina so then definately would not get any tips.

One idea mentioned to me yesterday was that entertainers and medical personnel would be paid a fee via game itself per min of being in cantina and med center. Macro detection would remove the pay so would stop some of the macros in cantina. To me this is best idea all around for us and customers.

Oh and for the intellectually challenged ppl who feel we should do missions???rofl entertainer missions highest paying one 190 credits. Regular missions...have you LOOKED at our ham bar???? What will happen is more ppl will eventually gravitate to second profession..already seeing many empty cantinas..why you ask...lol..its cause we out doing other work. So next time there is no entertainers in cantina when you need bf healed..no medics in center to heal your wounds think bout it. Everytime i played so far this week I was only entertainer in cantina 90% time. I had planned on surveying but ppl kept coming in to be healed. I was nice but eventually will have to be not nice as I have to earn money somehow.

I'm not sure how you are only getting 500 creds a day unless you are at a place with tons and tons and tons of entertainers. People feel as if they have to tip Everyone in the cantina usually. So you don't get so much. I'm in Mos Eisley and I usually get on average 3000 creds a day. And that's a usual day. Otherwise I go out and do explorer missions. Unless you are rude and deney people heals. Otherwise MOVE TO ANOTHER CITY!

Yup.

Entertainer missions are not worth it. My PC's second profession is artisan. She can do a mission from Moenia to Dee'ja Peak as an entertainer and make 190 credits. OR, she can do a mission from Moenia to Dee'ja Peak as a craftsman and make 1200 credits. Which do you think she will take?

Her 3rd profession is very novice marksman (well, OK, she has int. rifle). Right now even the giant moths (Spineflaps?) can kill her if she is unlucky. Anything bigger than that cons red. Even Gnorts were conning white till she got a tusken rifle...

Im sorry, but this is the dumbest arguement I have heard yet for not tipping entertainers. You are willing to pay for all of those other items, yet when it comes to entertainer healing, suddenly that should be free? Healing is not optional; you NEED it. Eventually, it's more important than the buffs you are buying. What the hell makes you think that this service should be free when none of the others are?

I don't know if you've noticed, but most entertainers don't have much health. It doesn't help either that the destroy mission payouts have been reduced so much. But it's really, really stupid for you to claim that you don't make enough money from missions, then say that entertainers can go do missions if they need money.

I have never been a proponent of a /deny command, but after reading that, I am more interested in some sort of implementation. Obviously losers like you are only going to pay for the healing service if you are forced to.

You don't have money to waste on tipping? Then I think that no entertainer should have time to waste on healing your dumb ass.

I agree with Neon for the most part, though I still do not like /deny.

Telling Entertainers to go off and do non-Entertainment things to get money would be equivalent to them taking destroy payouts out of the game ("You get XP for them don't you?") and then saying to someone who just wants to play a fighter, "You want money take up crafting."

I happen to like both crafting and the occasional fight so I don't mind earning money in other ways, but someone who wants to just play an entertainer should be able to and still make a living. Now, they might not make as lucrative a living as, say, an armorsmith or a bounty hunter, but they should still make something.

Tipping someone who provided a service for you is common courtesy. If you don't do it, nothing can force you to, BUT, I am free to consider you an obnoxious boor, and am likely to refuse to dance for obnoxious boors when there are so many other nice people around who will actually appreciate my PC's dancing.

Here's a story. Last night I walked into Keren cantina on Naritus. There was a dancer/crafter I am friends with there but she was busy crafting. NOT dancing. The only other person was a guy with half his mind bar black, probably with a lot of BF. I walked in with no title over my head (I don't like titles since I feel like it detracts from the RP immersion). But my character is wearing a pretty dress. Fighter boy says, "Please tell me you are an entertainer." My dancer says, "Yes, I'm a dancer. Why?" He then begs me to dance and heal him. "Well, I was about to log out," I /tell him, "but since nobody else is here I will stick around and heal you."

I proceeded to dance for him entirely and 100% as a favor to him. I didn't get much experience dancing solo. I was tired and ready to log out. But I figured if I was in his shoes I'd appreciate the service, and my character is just like that -- she'd do it. Plus I was hoping the crafter/dancer friend would un-idle from crafting and I could talk with her for a minute.

So while I danced I RPed with the guy (he was not really much of an RPer but you take what you can get). Talked about the weather, hunting, whatever, with him. Flourished. Tried to make the 10 min or whatever it took as entertaining as possible. When he was all healed up, he said, "OK, thanks, I'm off to the med center." and walked out.

He did not bother to tip me for that. Personally, I think that was somehwhat rude on his part. He knew darn well I was ready to log out and had just hung around to heal his sorry butt, and he couldn't be bothered to send a few credits my way?

As a note: this is the kind of behavior that makes dancers want to have a cover charge or /deny people. And I do sympathize. I don't agree that it will make things better -- I think it'll make them worse. The stingy people will pay minimum and the people who had been generous will be so ticked off they also will pay minimum, and our tips will go down. But that does not justify what these cheap morons are doing.

here it is 5 days after the now famed strike...

every time i pass through cornet(i make it a habit now about 3 times a day) all i see is 5 or 6 afk entertainers macro grinding and 1 SOMETIMES 2 entertainers actually doing what they do... as far as clients...VERY few even go in anymore there...

tells me that the strike did exsactly what i warned it would... force everyone to move away from cornet for healing.

Yup.

Obviously, it did not work, or the original poster would've come back to this board and crowed about his great victory.

Instead, the strikers' silence is deafening.
