Thread: I am TIRED of hearing that AFK Macro doesn't hurt other entertainers
In response to Chessack...
(1) I do not expect to get tips if I am AFK. Because I have a different primary profession, I have a way to make a living outside of being an entertainer. If there is an entertainer there, NOT AFK, talkin it up and having a good time, by ALL means, TIP them. They are playing their roles, providing more then just a tune or a wiggle. That is entertaining.... give them some coin! Please! Sorry if I did not get that message across.
(2) Medics.... I am glad to hear you do tip the medics. It only seems fair. I am also glad to hear others do as well. I have not seen it before, nor have I been tipped for healing with my small medic skills. Again, I don't expect them either but will take them. If I am sitting around as providing the role of a healer in town, well, I would like to see someone's tips. After all, there is a real cost to a healers efforts.
(3) #2 above sorta covers it but I would just add that if your main role is being an entertainers, like in the real world, be prepare to live a moderate to less then moderate life style. Very few entertainers really make it big. A LOT of very, very talented entertainer never get their claim to fame. But, if you stick with it, achieve the highest levels an entertainer can achieve, I think your tips will be there, more so then not, but I still do not think you'll ever be rich. Part of this is in the risk-factor. Where is the risk in dancing/playing in a club? It's small, thus, so is the reward. If you're out risking you life, there the risks increase, as does the reward.
Entertainers should be tipped. AFK entertainers should not expect tips. Give the tips to the one that are busting a hump to truelyentertain. If you're intentions are not to tip, go find a AFK entertainer. What is unfair about that?
Anyway, gotta get to work. Have a great day all.
your part-time Musician
are the peeps against afk macro just against it in cantina or overall?
Im a new entertainer, Im just picking up music for fun and with friends. I've already mastered armorsmith and dropped it (i think ive done my grind time) and now doing Creature Handling and pistoleer with some music for a lil non combatant fun with guild mates. Anyhow, to the point... Im afk macroing in my house to pickup music 4 when Im unable to actually be in game playing so that when I begin working on Healing I can play something other than starwars 1 and have a better chance of joining a group not playing starwars 1. While I think most of my healing XP will come from the field, grouping at camps, I have no intention of afk'ing when spending time in the Cantina. Do you all really feel there is something wrong with this method?
Im using music as a fun sideline, and with as slow as music xp goes and probably the rarity of my cantina visists, theres no way i could ever possibly get any experience or have fun with the profession if I didnt. *shrug* I just want to have some fun with it at guild events and camping breaks out in the wild, I'll never be able to do that anyother way. I'll be music 4 tommorow I'd imagine, so my macroing will be over then, and itll just be working on the healing line up to musician now and then, I guess I reallyjust wanted to see the perspective on others on this.
btw, just wanted to add that im only doing technique and knowledge lines in musician, I'm not trying to take on the role of a healer, its only so i can play and have fun in a guild band. Personally, since entertainers unlike other games are virtually useless in the field with regards to combat, I think there should be some non combat skill pools for music and dancing without any benefit to healing wounds/bf...but im sure that would draw criticsm.
kind of makes it hard to have a party or dance when no one can actually dance or sing. Anyone seen the UO2 movie long time ago before it was cancelled, and that neat techish music and showed scenes of dancing and players just looking like they were havin a good time? I think SWG is missing that. Anyhow, apologies for getting of track, just trying to share my feelings on why I picked up musician and why I dont feel its wrong to macro when your intention of picking up the skill is not to even to necesarily entertain, but socialize with friends while not fighitng.

We are laughed at by other professions. Ridiculed. Told we should be happy to get the xp from performing. Why? Because our profession is a joke. Because of the AFK people.
Why do people think this is because of macroing?? How about the fact that entertainers have no part to play in the GCW. The only use for an entertainer right now is to heal BF. Nothing more. Until the devs make the entertainment professions more substantial, the ridicule will not go away, afk people or not.
I to play from Japan and have incountered this, but what you are forgetting is that while it is 4am in the Pacific Time Zone it is 7am, or Just before work / school in the Eastern Time Zone. So it does make sense that people would log in and then leave for School / Work.

Must be your server. I play from Japan (weird times again), and I see the most bizarre phenomenon. At 8:00 p.m. (4:00 a.m. Pacific time), the servers go down. At 9:00 p.m. or so, the servers come up, musicians start to fill up the Theed cantina, and then they all go AFK! They take the effort to log in at 05:00 a.m. local just to start their macro and go away!
Crazy AFKMers.
whine whine whine whine whine! I made mesmerizer in about 2 weeks with off and on afk macroing. I probably made 10k tips total over that time period. It cost me about that much to get my instruments and pay for novice musician from the trainer. But oh, I made (at that time) about 10k/hour doing gnort missions in theed(now I can make far more) so I didn't care about it. The moral of the story? Go pick up a blaster and do missions if you want money. You don't need to pay maintenance on your instruments OR the clothing you wear. It doesn't COST you anything to heal someone's BF or mind wounds(unlike medics). Once someone is in the game for a week, they have heard starwars3 and ballad like a hundred times...and the songs aren't that good.
Leveling up in musician/dancer is a BORING grind. Let the macroers(I am done with music exp now that I have the title) play.
IMHO "grinding" to master musician is far from boring. In fact it's the most fun thing to do in the game. If you don't like it, why did you pick the profession?
Frankly, I could barely stand to do anything other than skim this thread. I find you "entertainers", andI use the term loosely, who condone AFKing your way to mastering your skills, far too frustrating to even bother with. I'm willing to bet that with few exceptions those of youwho arecondoning thenonparticipationandchronic AFKing of band members are doing so because you wish to excuseyour own behavior. Well, of course you guys don't see any problem! It's what you do!
Without any doubt this afking needs to be addressed and ways need to be found to help discourage it. Aside from the fact that the spirit behindAFK macroing an entertaineris the antithesis of what playing anentertainer in the game should be about,AFK entertainers are indeed causing problems in the game.
It is just plain wrong! Wrong that customerscome into that cantina and find half the band members with big AFK letters floating above their heads. Wrong that it gives other playersa lousy impression ofentertainers in general.Wrong that these lifelessentertainers are often standing there for ageswith only their default action or soundrepeating itself over and over and over again, completely ruining any opportunity for a band to sound or lookas good asit can or should. Wrong that it canalso create an entirely dull and sleepy atmosphere in a place that should be anything but dull and sleepy. Wrong thatlive playersworking theirentertainers are hidden behind a half dozen or more AFK entertainers who stood front and center before they typed /afk. Wrong thatAFKing is so prevelent that band leaders willgoAFK for ages at a time with no thought of passing the lead to someone else, leaving the band unable to invite others that comealong. Wrong that someband leaders will allow a huge number ofAFK band members to stay inside a full group and tell other players who are willing to stay and work their characters and the crowd, that there is no room left for them to join. So there you have all these AFK players gaining great exp while they're away from their computers. While others who want to actually entertain by working their character and the crowd are forced to stand on the sidelines and are excluded from the excellent opportunity to gain skill.
Come on, people! How is any of this right?
I seriously hope this is a problem the dev's are giving attention to. And I hope you folks in this thread who think that thosecomplainingabout afk entertainers are merelywhiners, soonfind your days numbered. Not that I expect anything will be done before you've afk'd your way to master, "won" that part of the game, and then left entertaining altogether. I don't think many of you who afk'd your mastering will stick with entertaining at all. So in the end you'll have been nothing but a pain in the butt for those who wanted to play it straight.

Ah yes, spoken like a true grinder.
Here's a clue or two for you:
1. Some of us are in the profession for the roleplay aspects of it. Guess what? Shockingly, we enjoy roleplaying, not grinding. And oh look! SOE and LA decided to put some stuff in the game for people like us, not just for grinders. In fact the #1 complaint of most grinders on the general forum, if you just boil it down to nuts and bolts is, "I want to be able to just grind and ignore everything else!" and SOE's basic answer to that is, "You can't." Good for them, I say. I hope the grinders never win the argument. Bottom line: there are enough other grind-only MMORPGs out there already. This game is meant for the roleplayers. Finally!
2. What is the point of a Master Musician title if you don't intend to play? Let me see if I understand this... You took novice ent, set up a macro, and proceeded to get to Master of Music all the time never even playing the game. And now that you're there, you hate all the songs and will never play music again. Was there a point to all that? I mean, why bother? What does it accomplish, other than prove you are a good macroer? Next time, why not try a profession you like, and leave the profession we like to us true entertainers... the people who like it and like entertaining.

Reread my second post. It stated that I did it because I like the healing aspect(and the title). I got battle fatigue healing 4 so that I could use it for game play.
And for you people that like the role-playing aspect of it -I applaud you in all seriousness. Just don't think that because you chose this profession, it should be a profitable one.
Let me recap a small bit of what has already been posted. It kind of sums up the usefulness of an entertainer.
There are two things to gain from being an entertainer (notice I don't mention to make money):
(1) you gain the ability to heal fatigue,
(2) To have fun playing/dancing to the crowds
You can play an entertainer for either or both of the above reasons. It seem though that the ones that do play for both reasons thing everyone has to play it that way. I picked of entertaining to be able to heal myself and other peoples fatigue so I do not have to rely on anyone else to do it. Can I have fun playing music? (I am not a dancer) Sure, I *can* have fun playing music if I want but who are you to day I have to be there, at my keyboard, pushing buttons to make fancy moves, etc. if I don't want to be? You? If YOU think YOU have that right then I or anyone else would have the same right to say YOU should not be having fun playing/dancing! Why should I be suffer because YOU don't want to be AFK? If for any given reason I wish to aquire the skill to heal fatigue, let me do it my way. You do it yours.
I hope no one but entertainers are reading these posts. Why? Because you honestly sound like a bunch of whiners.
Now, as for the money... if you made an entertainer because you wanted to make money, you can but don't expectget rich.Playing/Dancing in a club involves no risk. None! If rewardsshould be greaterwhen risks arehigher, then you shouldn't expect to be rolling in the dough.Entertainers are tipped. Are they always tipped, no. Also, notonlyis there no risk, there is no cost. It cost you nothing tohealpeoples fatigue.
It is not the fault of the AFK entertainers that thethe two mentioned benefits aboveis all the class has to offer. You can bark at the Devs for that not at those players that areAFK because they are only interested in getting the exp to be able to heal fatigue.
I guess that is all I have to say for now.
