Thread: BuffBots, are they really the problem?

If they trash all the bots and get the cantina back to what is was before the hologrind and AFK Buff bots... heck ...even I would consider to resubscribe.

No Drygo, you left because of it. And I see you did not include that you left because of buffbots, but instead, because of the hologrind. There are some that left for your reasons and there are some that left long before Holocrons were even put in.

If afk and macro and buffbots had never existed, we would still be there. *I* would still be there.

Thats great, where were you when I needed a buff? Where were all the entertainers whenpeople needed a buff?

The afk mentality in this game is what ruined it for everyone.

I dont think anyone could deny this

Trust me on this. The afk came first, not the lack of buffing.

The AFK came first because of hologrind, but the prominence of buffbots came from lack of entertainers.

Buffbots and hologrinders are both afk entertainers, so they are quite similar, change professions is natural, people try them and enjoy them are they seen them as funny. The problem here is that there are many people that think that entertainer is funny but are unable to play it cause afk (holos and buffbots)

They where no more present as no more necessary for the game with all the afkers around. And cantinas turned out in npc realms

i agree too

that was caused by afk hologrinders... is another form of the same problem afk hologrinders drive entertainers out of cantinas (and game), afk buffbots prevent them to come back.

different players, different motivation but same results

And yet the consequences with the changes you are asking for will turn two very different results.

Then what are you going to do to prevent it from happening, Milandra?

As a non combat crafter from start 2003, and never joined a player city I have had much time to be at the local cantinas (Most on Tat). I have never used cantina for healing or buffing. Just to hang out and meet old and new friends. Here is how i see it.

Was the cantina a fun place to hang out before AFK buff bots invaded:

Yes ...sure it was. Sure some times there where no entertainers in there... but most of the time they where there. And it looked like they had a blast. I got the feeling they haved fun. Sure they maybe suffered of some sort of lack of content sometimes. But they always tried to keep a good spirit in the cantina. If there wasnt any entertainers to talk too, I had friends to sit and talk to and discuss business with. Heck I even closed some business deals in the cantina. I always got a Star Wars rush when I was in a cantina. Bustling with folks of all kinds and entertainers, all talking about star wars things with each other. Just like in the movies.

Was the cantina a fun place to hang out after AFK buff bots invaded:

No... With the Hologrind AFK bot started to show up. All the spamming begun. ATK Entertainer become more and more quiet. Guess they started to use group chat more and more to make them self heard in all that spamming. The overall happy atmosphere in the cantina dropped. Dissatisfaction amongst the ATK ones rised. Here they where working their butts of while some ***** just started a bot and went AFK. Then ATK entertainers started to leave (Dont know where to exactly). And after a while there was only a sea of AFK Buff bots left (and some newbies trying to understand why all of the entertainer was AFK.. poor bast*rds). People in general stop to use the cantina as an meeting point. And now all my SW feeling was lost. The last straw.

Then i cancelled my account.

The cantina was like a second home for me and many othersin the game. I never went to any of the dungeons, never went out on hunts, never grinded to get Jedi, never needed any buff bots... all I wanted was the atmosphere in the cantina, the atmosphere of SW. That made my day. But just because some folks need too buff/grinding soooo bad ... it was taken away from me.

Well thats all folks.

And sorry for any spelling errors... Im still just a Swede

Milandra, it's funny. You claim to know both sides of the story. I do as well. I've been a Master Rifleman since launch and depend on my mind stats. You know my history on Chilastra, and you probably know of my past involvement in PvP. I've still chosen to side with entertainers on this issue. I'll never use a bot again.

I do it out of respect for others. It's a small sacrifice to make.

I wish more would be willing to make that sacrifice.

Actually I really dont know your history on chilastra

And entertainers do have my support, they get my tips before the buffbots, that does not mean doing away with buffbots is the answer. But thanks for following me to another professions boards, its quite affectionate of you

Honestly I gave up my dancer long ago when I switched servers.

I did however master dancer on my new server but it was only to achieve jedi.

There just wasnt enough to keep me interested, she is still a Mdancer/smuggler andit was only a few months before I left that I had re-mastered dancer. I was saddened to see what the cantinas had turned into.

I remember cantina fights being welcome (gorath is more of a RP server than most) and my dancer was known for her pistol skills and beauty within that rp comminuty. I used to duel BH's and win (talk about needing a rebalance) this was pre-scatter of course

I had a lot of patrons that would send me tells asking where I was dancing, just to get healed by me.

Or ones that would come in and deliberatly start RP'ing a hands on jerk so I would duelthem.

My friends and I even started a player cantina just outside AH called the Filthy Womprat from a largetat house

You know those days, when masters actually charged players for training? I never did, but I definately paid for it.

Those were the days right?

Soonce the holo grinds started and cantinas became a bit emptyI dropped master and started bio engineer, kept my pistol. Bio engineer always intrigued me. I never did the holo thing there becausethere was no way I was getting one as a dancerwith a min of 5k in my bank most of the time.

I finished bio engineer (after way too long) and just couldnt keep up with it.

I had been missing dance for a while, so decided to re-master. The cantinas were no longer empty, plenty of players but no one home. Entertainers had been complaining loudly about lack of content, and no way of making money. Changes were made.

I left the server to be with an old eq friend on chilastra.

I know what its like to be ignored in a cantina full of players, I know what its like to havecustomers pass you by eventhough you greet every person that walks in the door.

I can empathize with what the entertainers are trying to do today, but I just feel they are going about it backwards, and fixing a problem from the outside in never works.

First of all, mind/focus/willpower buffs are not a right, or a necessity. They are a bonus. If and when you can find one, great. Unfortunately, as more and more grinders began playing entertainers AFK, people figured out that the professions could be completely automated. They made buffbots, People began to see the entertainer buffs as a necessity, as much as doctor buffs. They really aren't, and when the combat revamp finally gets implemented and a.) mind is not the end-all be-all target anymore and b.) mind is healable with stims, the mind buffs will not be the necessity or divine right that every combat character seems to think they are now.

And another thing. The fact that dancer and musician can be completely automated, and often are, is what is demeaning and demoralizing to the people who play those professions at the keyboard. And that is nobody's fault but SOE. They designed these professions and integrated them into the mechanics of the game, by giving them healing and buffing functions that the combat players need. Unfortunately, they also made those same professions completely automatable with their recursive macro system and the mostly passive nature of the mechanics of healing/buffing as an entertainer. They screwed up the design, and now they have to fix it.

If it were possible to completely automate doctor buffs, and suddenly doctor buffbots sprung up all over the place, there would be an outcry. If it were possible to completely automate slicing, and slicing bots sprung up, there would be an outcry.

This is OUR outcry.
