Howdo YOU deal with the abusive, Whiney, smallminded, aragant, bozos as an entertainer?

I completely and totally ignore them, I added my /tell messages to the group chat window and when there's people like that in the cantina I just switch to group window and talk to people in /tell's.

If they are really abusive, licking, kissing, puking or whatever then they get a slap in their face and depending on who else is in the cantina I will either refuse to entertain further or I will just play a sad song with my mood set to sad.

But there's only one real solution for this kind of harrasment and that is /report. But I won't do that, I just try to roleplay my way through it, /report for me is only a last resort.

I consider anything over 12 words in singing spam, but thats just me. Most people can't keep up with your singing due to conversations they are having.

HalfCracked:

From one singing musician to another, I must say that everything you have said is absolutely correct. Singing can be one of the best ways to entertain people, and at the same time, some people are very immature about it. It only takes one heckler to ruin the whole experience.

When I do get a heckler in my crowd, I deal with them immediately. Sometimes, it's simply a matter of giving them a smile (in the middle of the song), so that they get some attention. (When they're spamming insults, attention is all that they really want in the first place). If I'm not actually in the middle of a song, and I'm getting heckled, I will try to find a way to humorously agree with themin public (which can be entertainment in and of itself, if done well). Then, in a private /tell, I might ask them politely if they would be offended if I sang another song... usually, that seems to do the trick. If I'm in the middle of a song, then of course, I can't retort publicly. I might either just stop the song right then and there (using /dump if necessary), or I will immediately engage the heckler in a private conversation with /tells. Any time that they are typing out tells to you in private, is time that they are not publicly insulting you.

But the number one thing I've found to prevent heckling, is to publicly ask permission before I start. If just one person publicly agrees, then there is an 80% reduction in heckling, because any potential heckler would think that the crowd is on your side, not theirs. (They would be right about this, too.) Sometimes, you can tell that the crowd just isn't up for a song, or maybe nobody responded to you when you asked. Don't sing then. Just play music for a while, and try asking again aftera bit.

IMO until they give us a 'singing' feature its not spam....

Hmmm... but for some reason nobody likes me

How hard would it be to give us a simple singing feature, with a little (!) icon over our head while we are singing?

How about, you can only "hear" singing if you are listening to the band. I may be wrong, but I think singing goes out to everyone in the area just as if you had said something. If you can have a band blazing away at a song and not be able to hear them because you are not "listening" then the same should be true of singing.

Lemme be one to say I think the singing is great. I'm not an entertainer, just a bystander. 1st performance I saw as such was an absolute ball. It was a group of maybe six and three of em were singing away with hooks, body and background. I was lmao, best time ever in a cantina. The crowd loved it, some were singing along.

Basically I see it as this. A group that wants do discuss their hunt can do it in gsay. People that want to flirt take it into a back room. People that want to brag and feel all special, well, do what you want and the rest of us will pay you no mind. A performance is a performance, simple imo, if you gotta song, let it rip. Ignore any hecklers, if I'm in the cantina also we can just hope their overt and on the otherside .

Thank you to the great performers out there.

Care to share some songs? Came here looking for some and can't find any relating to it besides this... I usually sing short ones, but would like to make a bigger collection - credit given to makers of course. Heard this one about a cantina dancer from a... cantina dancer... hehe... on Flurry. It was really nice. Would love to see more stuff like that.

/sing baby /sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let people tell you it's spam!! Maybe they THINK it is but spam is more like: /jump /jump/jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump

/jump /jump /jump /jump /jump

Well actually just step outside Coronet Starport and see all the ACCEPTED spam!

Yes to some it is spam BUT entertainers are there to entertain!

However you do it, do it!

Like the other post said entertainers spend hours in cantina and everyone else only needs a few minutes to reduce bf.

Keep doing it! I so seldom see singers that it is pure gold when I do!

Let it become accepted and maybe one day devs will come up with barker singing droids!! lol

(Oh yes, that last line was a ploy for new droids coming from a MDE! lol)

Part of the problem, I think, is that there is so much genuine spam that people who find spam annoying start getting antsy at anything that even looks like it might remotely resemble spam in bad lighting.

I know that's the case with me. I HATE spam. It's surpassed AFKers as the number one thing I dislike about SWG. My ignore list is pushing 300 in less than a month of playing, and all but six of them are there for spamming.

I don't consider singing spam. Or lots of emoting a la K'vera. But spam has so thoroughly gotten on my nerves that I still have a knee-jerk negative reaction when anything starts filling up the chat window too fast. It takes a conscious effort to make a disctinction between the real spam and people like you and K'vera. An effort that some other people might not be making.

Also, I've never bought the "shouting over the noise" argument. Chat text != noise. The human ear is tunable; it can focus on one sound and filter out the rest, at least to some extent. Nobody's made a spam filter that works that way yet. Imagine if they did! What if the font size got smaller the further away the speaker was?

Certainly, slapping or punching or profanity is out of line, and those people are jerks. Don't stop singing or emoting. But be aware of what else they might be plowing through, especially if they're still hearing spammers that you've already /addignored.
