I once went on a hunt wuth a large group of people and there was a total hodge podge collection of skills, wepaons, and armor. I wore junk ubese (50/17 resists) and had a DL44 pistol. There were riflemen with laserrifles, fencers with curved swords, a pikeman with a wood staff, a couple of medics, a doctor, a TK or two, and a carbineer. Some had a few pieces of comp, others with chittin, a couple in mabrai, and some in no armor at all. No buffs at all and we went hunting squill lairs for fun. Best night ever! A few got sent to the cloners while others got lucky and got rez'd by the doc. If ths is how it was, I want things to be like that again!

Going out under/ill equipped is the best thing you can do to learn your profession. Too many people have not experienced the real power and limits of their class because they always run around buffed and simply spam specials. I rarely have the luxury of musician buffs because I won't use a bot. Normally I have dance buffs and Imaji has music buffs so we rely on foods, drinks, and smarts. Our guild, a mix of masters and novices, has been krayt hunting the past few days (the spawns are incredible). We have gelled as a team because it does take all of us to kill the dang things, especially an ancient. We have had a few rez, a few clones, and generally had to learn how to agro the beast off others or peace out and back away to heal up. We do have doc buffs but then again this mob is still tough even with buffs. We also group hunt lesser stuff buff free and I've been incapped more recently than in a long time. The challenge makes the fun, when I hunted just to harvest for profit I burned out on combat because it was so cookie cutter; find nest, kill beasts, tap, kill beasts, tap, kill beasts, kill nest, rinse, repeat all as quickly as possible.
One of my most enteraining hunting afternoons in the game was taking out the largest fambaa nest I've ever seen. I was unbuffed with no foods or drinks and in street clothes. I killed 28 famba with only one agro the whole time using conceal shot, take cover, and crawl. The planning each shot so that you didn't burn through your ham before the critter was dead, getting the angle so another creature wouldn't agro you, etc required thought. It took me two hours to kill that nest and I barely realized the time had passed I was so focused.

My favorite hunting is with my TKM wearing only padded tantel and BE enhanced clothing. Even though she is a master doc, I don't use buffs or armorunless I'm going for high end stuff like NS, rancor, krayts or kimos. All in all, I think I'm a better combatter for the experience of hunting regularly unbuffed & without armor. Learning the behavior of the different "types" (scout, male, female) in a spawn is a passtime in itself. And knowing how to combine and use my skills rather than just spam specials has contributed a lot to my success in combat. And yeah..those ancients are killer..the only ones I've not been able to solo.
The only greater frustration for me than hunting with someone who just plowed their way through to master and never learned to use their skills is when someone who AFK'd their way to a mastery of an entertainer prof expects me to teach them things they should have learned along the way so they can play with us.

Do you think that the devs can get these new faction troops to crackdown on AFK "players" as well?
Something like.....
AFKplayer1: "<insert annoying AFK spam>"
FactionTrooper1: "We are conducting a search for contraband in the area. Please cooperate or we will open fire"
AFKplayer1: "<insert annoying AFK spam>"
FactionTrooper1: "I said don't move while we are conducting our scan. Don't make me "warn" you again"
AFKplayer1: "<insert annoying AFK spam>"
FactionTrooper1: "Mess with me will ya? Blast 'em!"
AFKplayer has been incapactitated.
Make it a random chance to be incapped if they want to. I am sure AFK will be drastically reduced on GCW planets.

Seems to be working, I saw several AFK corpses outside Theed tonight and a couple of AFK dancer corpses in the cantina

This must be part of the recursive macro fix we've been promised.

Oh this thread has touched the very core of the problem
I remember when i first played, my armour consisted of a crappy chitin leg armour, a marabi chest plate, and that was it!! and i used an E-11 rifle. I remember the days when you could actually get a group to go out and hunt, i remember going out and when we encountered a humbaba, everyone fought till the death, but the beast just could not be beat.
Then it happened, almost overnight!
For a christmas gift everyone got a holocron in there inventory...and thus created a tail-spin with the game.
People needed to quickly grind through there professions, to become a jedi. Thus the era of the super buffs, super comp armour and solo groups began. Dantooine became THE place to be, the cycle went in and out everyday,
get buffed, throw on the comp armour, go to dantooine, get in a solo group run janta missions and attain millions within hours....the economy had become a train wreck, and the pure joy of hunting in groups went extinct...
Now, you try and find a hunting group, and you might get the sound of crickets. The other day i decided to equip a cdef rifle and ask some noobs if they want to hunt some humbaba.....they all laughed at me and called
ME a noob!!!!!
yes, this game is no longer a multi-player game, but a single player game. and it is truly sad..

The single player mode is only getting worse. With the increased harvest yields from a group and the way that uber spawns have occurred since the past two patches there will never be a shortage of good buffs and comp. You can locate mining resources so fast now that there is no challenge to it. It just seems they want all the support professions to be as easy as possible so everyone can spend as little time as possible in their alt. Hey SOE I don't have an alt, don't want an alt, and want a bit of challenge to the game.

Yes its made master rangers more desirable for groups. It also has made harvesting, like everything else that supports supplying the combatant so much easier that it removes a lot of the challenge. No I'm not a ranger, got close at one point but dropped it. I gave up all harvest abilities for a while because quite simply I burned out on just hunting mobs all the time. I recently got novice scout back to help my guildmates but after several months of just hunting I found I wanted to do more than just that. Now I can perform, hunt, participate in the GCW (thanks so much for removing the PvP requirement!), or fly. The problem with hunting is that any challenge is really lacking, I can get a stack big enough to make great money or to fill my guildies needs for a month in a weekend.

you do raise a very good point.
This new system of super creature spawns, has really taken the "thrill" of the hunt away, now all i gotta do is run around and kill the appropriate species...before, than i actually had to use area track, now though i rarely use it, all i do i move a few meters then hit tab to see whats in the area.
If the CU delivers, and these Super buffs, and Super armours are removed, then i think it will bring balance back to the game.

actually im gonna have to disagree with the last post.
The increased harvest mods are gonnna do two things
First. Its gonna drop prices for resources, which may/or may not drop prices in buffs, food buffs, armour... depending on the individual crafter.
Secondly. I take it that you are not a ranger....i am....i miss out on alot of fun stuff, because i am always stuck out in the field hunting non-stop, its like a second job...these super armours and super buffs come from people like me, that spend the time to collect large amounts of high quality resources, now that the amount of resources harvest has been increased, we will be able to hunt in goups, and get the harvest bonus....Also, master rangers get a much greater harvest bonus which is great news, as in the previous system the difference between a master scout and a master ranger was only 15 units....a real waste of SP for rangers if you ask me.

Second, even though the bots annoy the carp out of me, I think there's something to be said for politely asking a bot to leave. Many are nice people who may not understand the "unwritten rules" of a particular server or cantina. The ones that are unreasonable after the politeness...well, feel free to go on the attack after that's been established.
Um... we can have all the "unwritten rules" we want, they mean nothing unless SOE has rules... I've never met a bot that would leave if I asked them nicely.
