Thread: I asked...I got an answer. :(

Nuh uh. You said, in your post, that you were asked by the devs to pass along that message, whatever it was, to us. All I'm asking is for you to pass it along in their words, or as close as possible. The damage is done, and regardless what they do to this thread, either their statement on this or a paraphrasing of it will end up in that timeline. Unless you tell me they did NOT ask you to pass along the message in which case I'll not add it.

Please advise.

We are told to paraphrase, that is the most common way we are meant to pass on info. They review our comments and tell us if we need to correct something. I was told to pass this along, but that means I should paraphrase. I already IMed the Dev who this came from, I'm doing a follow up email now.

Believe me, if they correct me, I will be pleased. I would love to be misunderstanding what was said to me. Just step back and give them a chance to make a comment... or delete the thread, heh.

That was a paraphrase... I don't think I would be allowed a quote. I can send this thread to the redtag this came down from and ask for either a correction or confirmation. Given the nature of the topic, I'm not sure that they will be willing to make a public statement in any way. This thread will most likely be deleted in fact, but I will send the link.

But then, if all entertainers quit, there is no real need for SOE to fix our professions anymore. And I'm sure they see a few hundred or even a few thousands of ents leaving as the lesser evil as compared to p*ssing off their oh so precious combat playersby making all their 2ndary buffbot accounts obsolete.

If we go away, their problem goes away, along with the need to put some work into these professions. At that point they cuold just put in NPC entertainers to handle the mind healing, which would be far less effort than reworking our professions from scratch. What agood thingthis would be for the Devs, eh?

I'm not happy at all about the answer from Thunderheart (although if you really look at it, it's still vague enough for change - gotta wonder if TH isn't also a politician in RL). However, the following is something I'm REALLY concerned about!

I've decided to stay on and party as a chorus girl during the wait and support our new DC. If you guys don't think you can hang, I won't give you a hard time about it. Unfortunately, even a mass exodus of Ents can't even speed up the process here.

Please, Panthu - don't tell us you are stepping down as DC!!! We LOVE you as our corr! I understand your frustration level (share it to a degree), but even without a poll, I can assure you that the majority of the dancers who frequent this forum appreciate your work and efforts and want you to remain as our DC.

OK folks lets look at this from the SOE perspective and think about what they REALLY want to do.

1. They can't change the macros, they now realize that it would be too game breaking for too many people.

2. They need to make it easier to get buffs 24/7 its just become too critical to too many players. They dug the whole but they don't have enough dirt to fill it back in so they have got to live with it.

3. They don't want to lose the income that alternate accounts and AFK play generate.

4. They DO want this alternate play style, realistically they have a unique market because no one has gone after this segment.

They didn't really understand this segment of the player base they truely thought that a chat window in an SW setting was all that was desired. Now they realize that the social player does in fact want a game to play and they need time to come up with a plan and implement it.

What I see happening is a rethinking of how or if entertainers fit into the GCW and how to interrelate the social players with the rest of the players. I do see it improving but not in any form that we have thought of so far. I see them either removing or completely redoing our healing and buffing ability. In fact I suspect the rare loot to make stims do mind damage is a first step in moving that ability to doctors.

You can forget about AFK play going away, it produces too much money. Its a pretty common activity in all games only in other games 3rd party software drives it most of the time. Many online games don't enforce that portion of the EULA its more of a "don't ask don't tell" situation.

What we can hope for is some way to make our profession more like the others where it can't be 100% macroed or where the benefits from total AFK play are so little no one does it. My only real fear is that they will be stupid enough to remove any dependency on our profession and empty the cantinas of anyone besides entertainers.

It's true though I guess, if you aren't having fun, no reason to have an active account until things are improved for us.

Currently, prof revamps are scheduled to be before the GCW, but that could change at any time. I have no idea about dates... because they aren't sure things yet. Order is a little more stable, but that can change too.

I don't rock at the Bake Sale thing myself, but I know that's our only choice for those of us who choose to stick it out. I'd like to make a positive impact on the rest of the player base and preserve our Ent community as much as we can until things are handled... if you can't or don't want to, you shouldn't beat yourself up about it. You can always come back.

1) We do take the unattended macroing issues seriously, and this ability will go away, but we are not going to address it this month. It is a big technicalchange, and takes a serious amount of development and testing. It is being done by a different team than the Combat Upgrade folks so it is not gated by that effort.

2) Yes, the other professions (including all Ents) are scheduled to be revamped right after the Combat Upgrade and before the GCW. This is our stated development strategy. When we start that process we will engage with the community on the design in the In-Development section of the website to ensure what gets done enhances the gameplay and fun within the Ent professions.

3) There is another team doing fixes on all theprofessions not covered in theCombat Upgradein the meantime to address immediate issues, bugsand low (dev) cost enhancements. We will being doing some interim fixes to the Combat Upgrade professions too, as warranted. With over 30 professions they have a lot of ground to cover but Ents willl be getting their share.

4) SWG as a wholeis an entertainment experience which integrates lots of gaming and social elements. It is intended to have an entire series of compelling and fun activities. Not all of these activities are working the way you or we would like them to. I don't think it is healthy or appropriate for people to continually do things that make them frustrated or angry. This seems like common sense to me, but common sense appears less common all the time as I get older. When I'm not having fun at something, but I still love it at some level, I take a break. This seems better than driving myself to an emotional breaking point. I would hope the same for our customers, as I don't like it when people leave us angry. I would rather people took a break, than got to their breaking point with us, because when they get to that point, there is no chance they will ever come back (it is a divorce, not a breakup).

All the devs, myself included, work every day to try and improve the fun within SWG. We all get sad when we see people leave the game because we couldn't fix it fast enough to save them from leaving. We don't want anyone to leave the game, we want them to enjoy the SWG that so much of our effort and emotion is invested in.

I think that unattended macroing doesn't belong in our game and it will be removed. I have committed usto this, and I remain committed to it. When morepeople play AFK than ATK, we haven't done our job very well, and we need to fix that.

Thanks for listening. We haven't forgotten your issues and we will work to ensure the Ent professions provide the social gaming experience you deserve.

Fair enough. If they wish to clarify their stance or their words here, then I'll consider that. Otherwise I'm "going to press" with your statement listed as the devs talking through their correspondent with their voice.

I won't put your name in, and I hope this doesn't bring backlash against you, Panthu, but I've got to include this. It's way too juicy not to. It's gonna help wrap things up so nicely.

I believe if we would get even half of what you just gave us, you would see less despair in our camp. Many of us understand that you guys are doing alot, but when we don't get any feedback or words from you, it makes it very difficult to continue on. Panthu does a great job as being a voice, but we still need to hear it from Red Tags as well.

Tyrant, you just did more for the morale around here than could have been achieved with unlimited greenbar, a package slider or a collective night in Javy's tent.
