I find this hard to believe as you are going and bumping every single post about AFK, which just keeps things going, and you are spamming the message board with repeat posts of the exact same thing. And you know what they say, actions speak louder than words.

How is this a personal attack? it's N.O.R.M.S. based and he starts with "I" It could be better rephrased:

"I find this hard to belive. I notice you have bumped X number of posts concerning AFK in the last N days. The effect this has is to continue the debate you claim to be against. Additionally, this causes message board spam which does not further our goal of a productive community. What I'd like to see instead is constructive suggestions on how to help the situation: perhaps suggestions on how to help each side of the debate see the other side's prospective so we can come to an agreement on the issue. We value your input in the community."

Is that less of a personal attack? it's still factual, Non-judgemental, Observable, Reliable, Measurable, and Specific.

How do you know if someone is afk or not? Because a person has an AFK flag on his head doesnt mean he is afk. He might be avoiding tells. Everyone can put an AFK flag up by simply typing /AFK.

If AFK was not allowed Musician and Dancer would take months to master. It shouldnt take that long to master these profession. As we all know healing xp takes way long and so does dancing exp. Its easy for those people that are master dancers and musicians to say get rid of afk. Because you dont care, its not you thats grinding.

On another word, being afk logs you out after a certain amount of mins. That solves the problem. I think a lot of you people just really think that must dancers and musicians are afk because of the flag, but this is not true.

Most who have the flag really are AFK. Many who do not have the flag are as well. We think they are AFK because they don't respond to tells, drift all over the place while dancing, and stop dancing to sit right after a medic heals them.

I've mastered dancer, musician, and entertainer, and I did it at the keyboard. And I would gladly do it again. You know why? Being an entertainer is the same as novice as at master, you just have a little bit bigger selection. I still play starwars1 and basic. Because I want to.

The problem isn't the macro system. The problem isn't sony. The problem is that a great deal of the people playing this game, a majority by the feel of it have a very specific attitude about what they want from this game. That attitude is simply,(I wan't to gain as much enjoyment for myself as i can from this game in a way that fits with my schedule, and i dont care if my actions detract from the game experience of others so long asI am able to get enjoyment from it.)

As long as we continue to not give a **edit** about anyone else but ourselves in a game that was designed for the player base to provide 90% of the games content its not ever going to improve no matter what features sony implements.

The funniest thing about this whole situation is that in the beginning, the mere EXISTANCE of the Entertainer profession was questioned. People DISPISED the need to watch an entertainer to heal mind wounds and BF. They wanted a quick fix. The MacroTainer is a compromise.

On a side note, if it wasn't for the AFK entertainers... would the cantinas have ANYONE in them? I remember the days when you had to spend an hour just to find ONE PERSON who was able to heal you. Try not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

While AFK entertaining is questionable, it is by no means appauling.

How about this, instead of bring out the nerf bat to make something some people find "unfun" even more "unfuner", lets give the AFK Entertainers a way of getting through all of this easier. Because quite frankly with the current system of sitting in a cantina with a macro all day long bores the holo grinder, fills the cantinas with random spam, and annoys the real entertainers.

My idea would be to have the entertainer mission terminals give out Dancing/Musician/Entertainer healing XP in addition to cash. A mission might be to dance/sing in the cantina at the Cantina on, say Monera on Rori. And for 15 minutes of Dancing/playing an instrument you end up with say, 10k-15k worth of Dancing and entertainer healing XP.

This has the positive effects of getting the AFKers back at the keyboard, because it wouldn't be as worth it to AFK dance for 10-15 minutes, it would give the real entertainers new and interesting people to talk and play with as they pass through, it would let the hologrinders get through the profession faster, and it would get entertainers out to the more remote cantinas to play for injured players.

If it weren't for AFK'ers cantinas would look like med centers. I don't see med centers full of medics and combat medics and doctors sitting and chatting because its "fun" and thats what medical types do, wait for people needing healing to come in. No, what you see are empty medcenters everywhere because its boring as hell most of the time. Sure you get your moments where its great fun. But most people don't want to sit in a room doing nothing waiting for someone to show up. I find the time I spend in the cantinas with my entertainers great fun. But thats not where I want to spend all my time. I'd love to be able to go places and entertain, do the classic streetcorner entertainer but unfortunalty you don't get xp for that.

I keep hearing how much it pisses people off because they feel the AFK'ers aren't "earning" their xp. Does that mean that its ok as long as theres no xp involved? That if its a master thats doing it simply so that there is an entertainer there for those in need its ok? Are you willing to trash a system for those that are just trying to help? If so then thats pretty selfish on your part. If not then why can't someone want to help people out AND earn xp at the same time?

Oh and Fastus, great post. First truly constructive post on the subject I've seen so far.

i'm a marksman primarily and i have a potential solution for the afk entertainers....shoot them. or if you prefere brawling you can allways kick them i suppose (not very civilized though)

lol honestly though i make a point of not watching or listening to afk entertainers if i have the option i would rather some one who is playing gets the xp

If it wernt for those AFK entertainers, even more ofthose cantinas would be empty and you would be out of battle fatigue healingluck.

Im actually happey when Im on a planet no one hardly visits and see an AFK entertainer macroing away there. If they were not afking, I dont know how they could stay there talking to no one typing in or pushing the commands every 5 seconds with no one around for hours and hours. They (when they are there) save me a trip off planet searching for one.
