Thread: My idea for getting rid of AFK Entertainers.

Greetings all,
I for one am not a Dancer/Musician/Entertainer, although I have tried my hand at it. I am just a simple Doctor who is also quite annoyed when we have someone who is AFK while dancing or playing an instrument. So, I was thinking of what could people do to stop it. I know that you are all thinking of ways, and I (with a friend) came up with this idea.
Why not have a fatigue type of idea. Not gaining battle fatigue but have a timer which is quite small in the beginning..like an hour and that is how long you can entertain for. Then, as you gain new skills the timer will increase, and then upon mastering an elite Entertainer profession, you will be able to dance for as long as you want because there will be no timer between how long it takes for you to dance. Now, as for regen, why not have one hour regen and then let the person entertain for another hour. It'll reduce the amount of AFK people, and it'll add a bit more realism to this game which we all love. I would get rather tired (and/or sweaty) from dancing continually for more than 2 hours a daycontinuously.
I hope you all get what I mean in how to introduce this fatigue thing. So, what do you guys think?
(I want to apologise for any spelling mistakes...it's quite cold outside and my hands are rather frozen so typing is a bit of a pain at the moment 
)

good for you for expressing your ideas on game issues, however, what would happen to an entertainer who wants to entertain for 8 hours because they enjoy it? it would ruin his class.

After the path switch for Jedi, I don't think you will see this as much. So, let's just wait it out and see.

I really don't think the new jedi rules will solve the AFK problem. We already have PAs that are grinding lot mules to AFK 24/7 in their city cantinas.

I agree. Those who remember the times before the holocrons remember that this was already a serious issue back then. It'll certainly get toned down a bit, but there will still be plenty of AFK entertainers.

What does it matter for gods sake.. why does it bug you all that much. My alt is a master musican and I macroed it all. Did I ruin your game experince becuase I added more xps per flourish when you joined me in my group even thoughI wsnt there. Where you mad because the AP points upi got for training me were'nt worth as much as a love muscian.

I’ve been a musician for a couple of weeks now and I’ve been doing it AFK. I do this because I don’t enjoy sitting in a cantina for the entire time I’m playing SWG. And I need to do this if I ever want to attain the level I’d like to be in a reasonable amount of time. I’d like to actually LEAVE the cantina once in awhile! To tell you the truth I don’t really know WHY I made an entertainer. I’d never done it and, I dunno, it sounded interesting I guess. I don’t play the character much but when I do I enjoy the interaction in the cantinas, its fun. I do consider myself a polite AFK’er though. I never take “center stage” and I never spam. Well that’s not true but I’ll explain later. I don’t expect tips and have no problem with being bumped from a group to make room for someone that’s actually there. Hell I encourage it. But I also think I have a right to gain xp via AFK if I choose. If I’m in a cantina AFK and you’re their as well and you think I’m taking your xp or tips feel free to tell people not to listen to me or tip me when I’m not there. I got no problem with that. Your there, you deserve it more than me. But if your not there and I am then I have a right to that xp and tips just as much as you do. As has been stated already a lot of people appreciate the fact that I have my character there at 4am when they need me. I have recently taken up AFK’ng in the cantina on Dathomir. It’s empty and there are always gonna be people grateful for my presence AFK or not. And this is where I DO spam. I do so not to get tips but to let people know that there IS an entertainer there if they need healing. Something I’m sure there not use to seeing.
Bottom line, I guess, is that why don’t you just back off a bit and let others game their way. It’s not really hurting you because as I said there are ways around it. And if you are an AFK’er and you don’t like the flak you get from doing it then try to do whatever you can to improve the image AFK’ers have by being as polite about it as you can.
Oh, and btw, I don’t know if it was obvious or not but I’m not a hologrinder. I’d just like to run something above a novice musician. However with the infrequency that I run this character and the amount of xp it takes to gain levels I’ll never see it unless I do this.

I find this hard to believe as you are going and bumping every single post about AFK, which just keeps things going, and you are spamming the message board with repeat posts of the exact same thing. And you know what they say, actions speak louder than words.

I hate afk dancers.
Your worthless punks that ruin the game. Anything they do to stop you people will be great.
I hope the nerf your already low exp so low that you all quit.
I took up novice entertainer myself so I would never have to go to Coronet to watch all the lazy punks that take up useful bandwith

The only way afk entertainers will go away for good is if there is no way to macro the profession. While this would get rid of afkers I would assume many people that are not afk would not prefer this.

What do I really care if the entertainer is AFK or not? When I'm on Talus/Dearic, and I come in from the field, I'm am glad to see anyone dancing or playin in the cantina. If they are AFK, fine by me, I still get my healing. AFK entertainers who work in low traffic areas of the galaxy, THANK YOU!!
What do I really care if the merchant is duping credits or not? When I'm on Naboo/Theed, and I dance in the cantina, I'm glad to see anyone tipping or paying me. If they duped it, fine by me, I still get my money. Dupers who work in economically challenged areas of the galaxy, thank you.

To the original poster: We had a ton of ideas, both coding andpolicing and most would work good enough to stop the flood of AFKers. But the DEVs don't implement any of them, they don't even acknowledge the problem they created. So your idea might be good, might be working, but I won't comment on it as it won't get implemented or even spoken about anyway. Sadly, bringing ideas into SWG is a waste of good time.
