Thread: Macro'ed Master Musician Take or Leave it!! soon you'll beg for it..

I"m not afk for 8 hours straight, i'm plenty social enuf and get lots of love when I come into the Cantina.
So don't get me wrong.
Leahmister - If you're only AFK to do little errands, I really have no problem with you. If you AFK for laundry, or AFK to make a snack or what have you, that doesn't bother me. Especially if you announce it to the group at the very least when you AFK. It's the entertainers who AFK overnight, or AFK and go to work that are the concern on this board. If someone is AFK for over an hour they aren't contributing. It takes 3 or more entertainers to get a 1 XP boost on my dancing/musician, and only entertainers who are being watched/listened to contribute to the Entertainer Healing XP. Since the general consensus I've seen is that people don't watch AFK Entertainers, their presence gains me a 1/3 of an XP approximately, assuming the leader doesn't kick them.
Now, if your present and sociable, which you say you are - and you only AFK as necessary, then people will watch you, which contributes to our Entertainer Healing XP. You can act as a teacher, which to us entertainers is really the most vital role of a master, cause we don't get much in the way of income from entertaining itself and any way to save some funds helps.
What I don't get is that you make the following points:
1) I don't AFK for long periods of time, I'm plenty social
2) I don't spam tip requests
Which are the 2 things people are complaining about, and yet you feel that they are complaining about you anyway.
No, the complaint is about people who AFK because they have no real interest in the game of becoming or being an entertainer. And, in a strict sense, these people are in violation of the End User License Agreement. Yes, Macros are built into the game - why? So that people can go AFK?
No. Cause the End User License Agreement says that playing while AFK is not allowed. They are there to save keystrokes. I can put 100 keystrokes into a macro at one point, and save myself thousands of keystrokes over the course of my dancing career - I appreciate this. It also frees me to pay attention to my socializing, which is also good.
Personally, I believe that they should add some XP for entertainers - a small amount anyhow - for each social command actually entered from the keyboard that gets responded to with a reciprocating social command from the target. After all, it's our social skills that are the main reason for our existance - healing people was just something thrown in to appease the power gamers and something I believe might have hurt us, cause no one comes and listens to the entertainers just for the fun of it - that's not what were here for in their minds.
Hope this doesn't seem like a flame, it's not meant to be, since, as I said, from what I've read I have no strong issue with you. I just wanted to clarify what the issues with AFK Entertainers seem to be.

I AFK in my house after four hours of active playing in a cantina

IF you want to do AFK macroing, I would expect a little bit of courtesy to other palyes climbing up the ranks. The best scenario would be for you to play in the hotel or theater.
LOL.
Yah, the reason entertainers are having problems getting money is because the profession is generally considered "stupid/gay/lame/retarded/pointless" by most 'traditional' gamers. The gamers who are out in the field...getting BF and mind wounds.
I play a medic on gorath, and entertainer on radiant. my medic doesn't get tips unless i state "Only healing for tips...pre-payment required".
My entertainer DOES get little tips, while macroing, and NOT afk. which means I can say "hey thanks for the tip!" /smile
i think most of the people are bitching cuz they can't figure out how to do their own macros.
If you don't like the afk'ers, just kick em outta the group!! If they're the group leader, convince everyone to /leave and start a new group.
For example:
1. So what if I am creating server load? I paid for this game. I have the right to occupy a server slot all day while I am at work, and thereby prevent you from being able to log in with "server full" messages. So what if the server is lagged because I am AFKMing? I am AFK! I won't see the lag. You see it? Tough noogies.
2. So what if I am giving entertainers a bad name? I get what I want. I don't care if that hurts your way of playing.
3. So what if you find my AFKMing annoying or a nuisance. I don't care if it bothers you. It's what I want and that's all that matters.
4. So what if I hurt the musician profession so that nobody ever uses us and we never get experience anymore? I already AFKMed my way to Master musician so I don't need the XP any more. Tough noogies!
Etc, etc, etc.
There are some things that don't gel here, for the grown-ups out there (I realize we are in the minority, and no I don't mean chronological grownups, I mean people who act like adults, regardless of age). This game, SWG, is an MMORPG. Note the last three letters of the acronym: RPG. They stand for Role-Playing Game.. A roleplaying game is defined, in any RPG sourcebook I have ever seen, succinctly and properly as, cooperative storytelling.
In other words, roleplaying requires cooperation. This does not mean that your PC has to cooperate with mine. But it means that you and I as players must cooperate with each other or there cannot be a proper roleplaying experience (oh, you can, as they call it, "gank" me in PVP, but that's not roleplaying... it's arcade shoot-out stuff).
In other words, there is no place in a RPG for selfishness.
Does this mean there won't be selfish people? Sure there will... sadly, there seem to be more of them than not. I for one think that's a bad thing, and think it'd be better if more people had some classical pen-and-paper training in RPGs before they leaped into MMORPGs. In many ways MMORPGs are harder to RP properly in than a classic PnP style game. For example, there is no Game Master to dock your butt in experience for not paying attention to his adventure.
I guess my point is, you have a right to be a selfish weasel if you want... but I sure wouldn't hold my head up proudly over doing it. I'd be ashamed of it (not that I'd ever do it... because I understand that RP requires cooperation, so as a player I cooperate with others).

your still complaing? Exactly the point made above, dont listen, if you are in a group with an AFK'r dont listen to them, go to your options and turn the player music down, if you dont want to tip the AFK'r dont do it, I make 30k a day macroing or not macroing, I am sociable enough when I am in game I feel I have the respect of the regulars when I am not in game. And as a point I had to 'school' someone new to the Cantina and he evntually fell right into play with the rest of them. So complain all you want, you still use us to get healed. If you dont want to then pick the skill up yourself.
There are many hours in a day to be RPG, it doesnt have to be every single hour.
Have a good day and see you in game.
This is the Entertainer forum. I think what Ndaiyne was saying was that it is kind of silly for a macroer to tell other entertainers we will need his macroing some day, because, since we can heal ourselves, we're the one class that never will need it.
I.e. he should've posted this in a different forum...

Nope not complaining you can do what you want with your character as long as it doesn't interfer with what I want to do with mine. Don't worry I don't listen to afk musicians. I enjoy well performed in game player music so I always listen to the musicians in my group and since I won't group with musicians or dancers that are afk for long periods of time I don't listen to them ![]()
I won't use you to be healed at all I'm an entertainer I can heal myself thank you very much
Post your I'm proud of myself on your server boards if you are looking for appreciation this is not the right forum.
Probably the wrong forum to post a soon you'll be begging for me to macro and heal ya thread since as entertainers we can all heal ourselves.
As a Master Dancer I won't listen to or group with a musician that is afk for long periods no matter their level hearing the exact same rift again and again and again with no variation and no changes is worse than listening to SWG1 on the slitherhorn all night.
I have always been a firm believer in "if you don't like hwat someoen is doing ignore them". I don't see why peopel are so bent on reporting people. You play your game and let others play their game. If macro was not intended for use it would not be in the game. If AFK was not intended for use it would not be in the game. I for one do notentertain while AFK I have too much fun interacting with the other players but I don't care if someone else is trying to level up.
I'm an MM. I do not gain xp. I can macro and be afk. Are there advantages to that?? Well, I can see some. 1) If I am in a group, I can add the nargalon to the song. 2) If I am in a group, I increase every other musician's xp output. 3) If I'm in a group, I'm not gonna complain about playing any song whatsoever, to include sw1 on the slither. 4) If I'm not spamming "tip me please", what does my presence hurt the other group members.
There are some problems, like tipping. I personally do not bother with entertainer tips because they are just petty cash to me. In fact, many people on Bria can attest that I'm one of the best tippers in the cantinas, tipping 1000's at a time. Is there a problem with 12 afk macro'd peeps in a single cantina, sure. Is there a problem with one afk macro's peep in a cantina, no. And combat junkies will tip well when you are the only person on whether you are afk or not.
Last, if you see me feel free to report me. I'm sure you can prove that I was not at my keyboard. I'm sure that you can be 100% sure that I just didn't have a need to touch my keyboard for 10 minutes. I'm sure that you know whether I've had a bad day and have just decided to ignore your tells and deliberatly put on afk to avoid needing to talk to you. I'm also sure that you have a video camera on my computer that beeps everytime I get up. I'm sure you think I need to be socialable as an entertainer, but I might just be there to listen to the music and talk to my friends.
And for the record, I give a flying -edit- about people using macros. More power to them. Fix the real issues, not the perceived issues that annoy you. Fix the dupe bug, fix the PvP problems, fix the insurance system (wait, don't fix that.), the falling dancer syndrome, the class balancing issues, or any number of issues that kill game playing experience for everyone.
You are right if they do it in their house or something. Let 'em and who cares. Then they are only harming themselves.
The problem is that when they go obviously AFK and marco, in public, in the cantina, for hours on end, a large # of things happen to all the rest of us who don't do that.
For example:
- Damaged Reputation of the Profession -- Everyone sees this public dispaly of AFKMing. Everyone knows it for what it is. Because so many "Master" Dancers and Musicians got the title by AFKMing, it ruins the reputation of those who did not. Players have started assuming that "Master Dancer" = "Master of the AFK Macro" and people justifiably have very little respect for that. For those who have played every minute at the keyboard, this diminishes what they have accomplished.
- It throws off the supply/demand ratio -- People complain frequently on this board that we are not tipped enough. Well, tipping has to do with supply and demand. If players know they can just walk into any cantina and get healed by an AFKer for free, any time of day, why should they tip or pay or go out of their way to find an active one? Because people AFKM for many hours at a time, an AFK entertainer is almost always available. Things that are available in high supply, are not valued as highly. (This is why, for example, gold is more valuable than copper -- the supply of copper is much higher than that of gold.) Entertainers become something not to be RPed with, interacted with, and respected as a separate class, but simply bots to AFK in front of while your PC gets auto-healed by some other object whose player is also AFK (and thus irrelevent).
- Interference with the band/troupe -- This applies to many AFKMers. They don't just do it quietly in a corner. They park themselves smack dab in the middle of the dance floor, right in front of the door. They macro-spam the room for tips. This irritates just about everyone and interferes with the active players' (entertainers and patrons alike) ability to RP and enjoy themselves.
The basic attitude of the more rude variant of the AFKMers is pretty much, "*bleep* you! I want to grind while AFK and I don't care if you like it or not." That's a pretty obnoxious attitude, IMO. Given what the are doing to hurt the entire profession (listed above), you'd think they would have at least the good sense to feel ashamed at what they are doing. Instead, many of them seem proud of it. Some of them even brag about their "macroing" ability. Which is silly... anyone can macro.
At any rate, the AFKMers most entertainers take umbrage at are doing many things to make life harder for active roleplayers. Why shouldn't the active roleplayers be annoyed, and voice that annoyance, at their lives being made harder by people who are, in a word, lazy?
