Thread: Has the AFK Macro killed Entertainers??
I use to be a Master Entertainer and Master Musician with my main character, I am not any more though. Not because I found it boring, but because there was no other entertainers in the close circle of friends I play with.
I do however have a new entertainer character on Brie that I log in and play occasionally. When I do not play any music for a while I start to miss it, and whenever I go to a cantina with my main character to get my BF healed, I look for a musician first.
Unfortunately I can not stand to listen to the racket that is generated by 2+ AFK musicians that are just spaming flourishes with no thought to how it sounds (after all they are not there to listen to it), and thus I mostly end up just watching the dancers but it is not the same with out the music.
Now when I play my entertainer I have the same problem, I can not stand to be in a AFK group while I play or dance, when I log in to Theed cantina and find if even half full of AFK'ers it saps the fun out of the experience for me. I actuarially find it more fun to go to a hotel where there are know one by me around and then just do my own thing, while lurking on the entertainer chat channel.
So as a patron AFK'ers turn what should be a relaxing visit to the cantina in to an ordeal I have to overcome, thereby driving me away from the performers. And as a performer, AFK'ers drive me out of the most frequented cantinas, and thus away from the patron's.
AFK'ers are slowly but surly destroying the entertainer play style, then is no sense in denying it.

Hmm lets see I've been master scout, master marksman, master rifleman, master creature handler, master musician, master TK, ranger 2-3-3-3, master entertainer, and dancer knowledge 4. Of them all the one skill that is the least repetitive is the entertainer profession. Every time I go to a planet and run missions they are the same, find doc, tip doc, stand and wait for buffs, get missions, run to nest, kill everything, return for more missions. When my toon is sitting in a cantina doing the same animations over and over I'm interacting with a different set of people minute by minute. I'm managing a few players wanting buffs, chatting with players who just finished some activity and want to chat, helping new players trying to figure out the game, and chatting with the ent group (I stay to ATK groups). I'll drop a skill to try another but master ent and master musician will stay in my template because they are what an MMO is about player interaction not game mechanics.
So don't tell me what is and isn't boring I've done both sides, have you? And I don't mean that you AFK ground the skill trees I mean played the role, been present and tried to entertain.
With your attitude I can assure you that you will have trouble finding a performer when AFK is dead. However I have a long list of solely combat oriented friends who respect the entertainers play style as much as their own and they will never have that problem. They have a long list of entertainers to draw on. Many entertainers are also other skill sets from artisan to combat. There are more running around than you realize because you don't get to know them and they don't all wear their entertainer tags. The people who have gotten to know them and treated them as well as they do anyone else will have no problems at all and will have a distinct advantage over you in combat because of it.

What exactly happened to you guys and what can we do to start getting more entertainers in there and doing there thing again?
Was it The AFK macro Entertainers that drove out all the fun and intresting characters out of the game or was it just the fact that there was only so long you can stand in a room?
My personal belief on how to get intrest into your proffession again is More music and dances to work with for one, More clothing for entertainers, more effects and maybe more things to do (quests and such) and maybe even add some little combat (defensive only) to entertainers. Also redo all the cantina's to make them not the same in almost every NPC city out there.

This is making it harder for entertainers to level (too bad our ability to gain xp is so dependent upon players outside of our professions). Bots also make a substantial dent in entertainers' potential income.

Word on the street is still that entertainers (and musicians and dancers) will be in the second batch of these revamps, though as always, everything is subject to potential scheduling change.

When I went there a couple weeks ago for buffs and noticed how dead it was, but that there were live peeps in there, I was motivated to start trying to go to Coronet a little more often. I don't have a lot of time to play in the winter due to work. But, I'm going to do my part to add a little life back there.

But i have a feeling that these AFKer's are going to ruin the macro thing for us who do like to chat with customers and freinds while danceing.
While the idea of no more AFK bots is appealing, I often wonder how it will affect those of us that use the macro system legitimately.

If you believe so, then you apparently should not be a dancer or musicianThere are, however, many active forum members, as well as active ingame players, that absolutely love the profession and find itto bea great artistic, social, or emotional outlet. You, my friend, are obviously not among those numbers. Why do you judge poorlythose peoplethat are among thosewho enjoy the profession as it was intended to be played?

Ditto. You see one name in my sig. It's the name of my entertainer character..actively played on3 different servers. In addition to all the Esharras, on my home server I play4 other characters. One ismayor of a major city, another owns thechef vendor nearest the Krayt Graveyard, the third runs a very busy shop that caters to entertainers and mytkm/docloves tanking krayts butlogs every night inthe guild's base..just in case. But it is from playing my entertainer that I gain the most fun and satisfaction.

All you AFK whiners read this and get a clue, then SHUT UP about AFK Buff Bots I am SICK of listening to it.

Yeah. You know what that thread tell me?
You NEED us, as much as you hate to admit it, all the combatants NEED us. You just don't have the creativity it takes to actually say hi to a live entertainer, so you prefer to use a bot.

I would have read it, but it's been deleted. If the tone of the thread matched your one-star calibre post about it, I'm not surprised.
If you're sick of listening to us complain about buffbots, you could simply ignore the entertainer fora. It's quite obvious you don't care about the people who actually play entertainers, as opposed to those who use their computers to play it for them. If you want to talk to someone who agrees with you, go post in the buffbot forum, or talk to one in-game.
Lukious wrote:That thread basically stated that entertainers are not given the same opportunities to access things like Jabbas theme park and other parks because they are not combat types. Their suggestionwas that all the theme parks should also have entertainer and other non combat missions to allow them access to the same loot and items that combat types have. It is their feeling as it is mine that Entertainers suffer from a lack of opportunity to earn loot and credits at the same rate as the combat classes therefore the profession is dieing not because of buff bots but because it is a boring class. There needs to be more for entertainers to do and earn then just a few gimpy quests, watching the same 6 droid effects, and dancing and playing the same songs over and over in the same cantina.
No that thread did not state that lack of contetn was the cause of entertainment dieing it simply stated that they didn't have the same access to content as combatents. The thread went on to state that neither did crafters or any other non-combat profession. That has nothing to do with the state of the entertainment profession and was never implied as the reason by anyone in that so please don't twist the thread content now that others can't access it.

Personally I think Buffbots and buffbot supporters should be banned from this forum as NPC's have no rights. Why should their afk gameplay give them more time to troll these boards with their distorted views.
I love how they come to a board frequented by active live entertainers who love their class and tell us how boring our profession is and how buffbots are such a great service to them. I also find it interesting how a non entertainer can argue how buffbots don't hurt our profession when we are the ones who know this profession and they obviously know sqawt. While a buffbot may bring some people into a city, there are some as myself that will have nothing to do with a city, its merchants, or any of its services, if they support buffbots in their cantina. Its personal...
Absolutely. When I was looking for a new guild, I had several offers, and I had to turn almost every one of them down because there was no way I was going to be in a guild or a city that had buffbots. And, I won't patronize vendors of cities who use them.
Funny thing is, as you well know Mariki/Loniki, Citadel has no bots, but we have a decent amount of traffic that comes through for vendors, and live entertainment.
