Thread: Has the AFK Macro killed Entertainers??

I think I will just add my two cents worth here.

I use to be a Master Entertainer and Master Musician with my main character, I am not any more though. Not because I found it boring, but because there was no other entertainers in the close circle of friends I play with.
I do however have a new entertainer character on Brie that I log in and play occasionally. When I do not play any music for a while I start to miss it, and whenever I go to a cantina with my main character to get my BF healed, I look for a musician first.
Unfortunately I can not stand to listen to the racket that is generated by 2+ AFK musicians that are just spaming flourishes with no thought to how it sounds (after all they are not there to listen to it), and thus I mostly end up just watching the dancers but it is not the same with out the music.

Now when I play my entertainer I have the same problem, I can not stand to be in a AFK group while I play or dance, when I log in to Theed cantina and find if even half full of AFK'ers it saps the fun out of the experience for me. I actuarially find it more fun to go to a hotel where there are know one by me around and then just do my own thing, while lurking on the entertainer chat channel.

So as a patron AFK'ers turn what should be a relaxing visit to the cantina in to an ordeal I have to overcome, thereby driving me away from the performers. And as a performer, AFK'ers drive me out of the most frequented cantinas, and thus away from the patron's.

AFK'ers are slowly but surly destroying the entertainer play style, then is no sense in denying it.

Hmm lets see I've been master scout, master marksman, master rifleman, master creature handler, master musician, master TK, ranger 2-3-3-3, master entertainer, and dancer knowledge 4. Of them all the one skill that is the least repetitive is the entertainer profession. Every time I go to a planet and run missions they are the same, find doc, tip doc, stand and wait for buffs, get missions, run to nest, kill everything, return for more missions. When my toon is sitting in a cantina doing the same animations over and over I'm interacting with a different set of people minute by minute. I'm managing a few players wanting buffs, chatting with players who just finished some activity and want to chat, helping new players trying to figure out the game, and chatting with the ent group (I stay to ATK groups). I'll drop a skill to try another but master ent and master musician will stay in my template because they are what an MMO is about player interaction not game mechanics.

So don't tell me what is and isn't boring I've done both sides, have you? And I don't mean that you AFK ground the skill trees I mean played the role, been present and tried to entertain.

With your attitude I can assure you that you will have trouble finding a performer when AFK is dead. However I have a long list of solely combat oriented friends who respect the entertainers play style as much as their own and they will never have that problem. They have a long list of entertainers to draw on. Many entertainers are also other skill sets from artisan to combat. There are more running around than you realize because you don't get to know them and they don't all wear their entertainer tags. The people who have gotten to know them and treated them as well as they do anyone else will have no problems at all and will have a distinct advantage over you in combat because of it.

Ok, before I begin, apologies in advance for the quote parade, hehe.

What exactly happened to you guys and what can we do to start getting more entertainers in there and doing there thing again?

Was it The AFK macro Entertainers that drove out all the fun and intresting characters out of the game or was it just the fact that there was only so long you can stand in a room?

My personal belief on how to get intrest into your proffession again is More music and dances to work with for one, More clothing for entertainers, more effects and maybe more things to do (quests and such) and maybe even add some little combat (defensive only) to entertainers. Also redo all the cantina's to make them not the same in almost every NPC city out there.

May I just say now, I LOVE these ideas. More dances (not hand animated but motion captured), more songs (oh I would kill for some blues and some other rock versions), more clothing (you can only wear the same style so many times and sorry, a fleshwrap, to me, does not an entertainer make), better quests...

Oh how my heart does yearn...

This is making it harder for entertainers to level (too bad our ability to gain xp is so dependent upon players outside of our professions). Bots also make a substantial dent in entertainers' potential income.

All too often do I stand in an NPC cantina and hear in the ent group chat about the travesty that is entertainment healing exp. I have played many other professions...none (except BE or politician) is this hard to level. I worked my way up to Master Entertainer, then to Master Dancer, and then to Master Musician. That last box in Musician of ent heal exp bout drove me nuts.

You wanna help the entertaiment community? Go get mind diseases, go get mind wounds, go get anything detrimental to mind stats and then sit (not meditate if you have TK) in the cantina and chat away your time with the live entertainers. You will enjoy social interaction, we will appreciate the exp. It works great for both because the faster we get that exp, the better we are at buffing, healing, and if we know you sacrificed a little for us, you'd be surprised where we're willing to go if you need an emergency buff.

Word on the street is still that entertainers (and musicians and dancers) will be in the second batch of these revamps, though as always, everything is subject to potential scheduling change.

Hon, I love ya, and you rock as a correspondent, but...I won't hold my breath, blue is not my color. Since when do we ents get dev love as scheduled? Keep up the good fight though, you have my respect and admiration.

Drygo dear, the next time your sexy green self is there, gimme a holler, and I'll drag my green self up to dance/play with you and provide live buffs.

But i have a feeling that these AFKer's are going to ruin the macro thing for us who do like to chat with customers and freinds while danceing.

This is my fear too. I use aliases and macros for a whole bunch of stuff in game. I have a problem, I am a chatterbox sometimes. Non-stop talking. I macro my flourishes so I can chat, chat, chat. I chat in tells, in group, in guild, in our /ent channel...chat, chat, chat. I use alias files for songs my character sings, I use macros for stuff I do in my RP...

While the idea of no more AFK bots is appealing, I often wonder how it will affect those of us that use the macro system legitimately.

If you believe so, then you apparently should not be a dancer or musician There are, however, many active forum members, as well as active ingame players, that absolutely love the profession and find itto bea great artistic, social, or emotional outlet. You, my friend, are obviously not among those numbers. Why do you judge poorlythose peoplethat are among thosewho enjoy the profession as it was intended to be played?

Hrmmm...let's see here. Look down at my signature. See those 3 names there? Yeah? Ok.

Derianadai is a combat character, as well as a few other things. She fights stuff, she groups to kill big monsters, she goes to the dangerous places like the DWB, the Geonosian Caves, the Squill Cave, etc, etc. She has mastered Artisan, Architect, Marksman, Commando, Politician, Medic, Doctor, Merchant, Chef, Musician, and dabbled in Scout, Ranger, Bounty Hunter, Creature Handler, Smuggler, and yes, even Force Senstive (got 18 whole boxes toward jedi before I decided I was sick of being just like every other dewd and didn't wanna be a member of the Flashlight Brigade).

Pirgam is a Master Shipwright/Master Artisan/Master Merchant and has dabbled in Pistoleer, Bio-Engineer, Armorsmith, and Weaponsmith. He crafts, he deals with customers, etc, etc.

Dathora is a Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Master Musician. She is and has always been. She does have Scout so I can filet fish though (hey, I love fishing!).

Now, that said...why do you suppose Dathora's name is in big pretty type and the other two in small drab type? I'll tell you. It's because of one simple thing: DATHORA IS MORE FUN THAN THE OTHER TWO COMBINED. I LOVE the social interaction, I LOVE being an entertainer. I find being a combat profession, while it has its merits, terribly repetative and boring. It's nice to know if I need money, I can go grind a few lairs, run a few missions, but in the end, its the same old crap over and over and over.

Same goes for Pirgam. I thoroughly enjoy putting ships together for people, managing vendors, that sorta thing, but in the end, ultimately, it is the same actions repeated over and over and over.

What makes entertaining so much more fun for me? The interaction. The ever-changing dynamic that comes with speaking to, interacting with, and just being around other people. I realize there are those anti-social types who don't like this, and they always leave me wondering why they play a "buggy FPS" instead of going to play something else.

Oh, and as proof of that statement, Dathora NEVER wears a tag. Never has, never will, but plenty of people know she will be perfectly happy to provide a full set of mind buffs if you ask nicely.

Ditto. You see one name in my sig. It's the name of my entertainer character..actively played on3 different servers. In addition to all the Esharras, on my home server I play4 other characters. One ismayor of a major city, another owns thechef vendor nearest the Krayt Graveyard, the third runs a very busy shop that caters to entertainers and mytkm/docloves tanking krayts butlogs every night inthe guild's base..just in case. But it is from playing my entertainer that I gain the most fun and satisfaction.

I have Dathora on Kettemoor, Starsider, Sunrunner, and Bria. Hehe. Kettemoor is my home so she's the only one actually done with the professions there, but the others are slowly progressing as I have time. I spend a lot of time RPing as Dathora on Kett though, not much time for the others, hehe.

Yeah. You know what that thread tell me?

You NEED us, as much as you hate to admit it, all the combatants NEED us. You just don't have the creativity it takes to actually say hi to a live entertainer, so you prefer to use a bot.

I would have read it, but it's been deleted. If the tone of the thread matched your one-star calibre post about it, I'm not surprised.

If you're sick of listening to us complain about buffbots, you could simply ignore the entertainer fora. It's quite obvious you don't care about the people who actually play entertainers, as opposed to those who use their computers to play it for them. If you want to talk to someone who agrees with you, go post in the buffbot forum, or talk to one in-game.

Why would they delete that post it was very well written and very well articulated as to what is wrong with the entertainer profession. Maybe for a handful of folks sitting around the same cantina playing the same lame songs and doing the same lame dancing is fun, but for the rest of the community its boring, leaves you with very little money to buy things for your home and has really no advancement opportunities.

That thread basically stated that entertainers are not given the same opportunities to access things like Jabbas theme park and other parks because they are not combat types. Their suggestionwas that all the theme parks should also have entertainer and other non combat missions to allow them access to the same loot and items that combat types have. It is their feeling as it is mine that Entertainers suffer from a lack of opportunity to earn loot and credits at the same rate as the combat classes therefore the profession is dieing not because of buff bots but because it is a boring class. There needs to be more for entertainers to do and earn then just a few gimpy quests, watching the same 6 droid effects, and dancing and playing the same songs over and over in the same cantina.

My feeling again is that AFK Buff Bots are a Good thing for player cities, it encourages folks to come to your City. I am a politican and I want reasons for folks to visit my City. Putting up Buff bots, vendors and other things encourages visits to my city, earns me the money I need to run the city etc etc. If they want to stop AFK buff bots in non player cities thats fine I dont really care. But I see a need in game for them. Because the same lame-o's that whine about buff bots dont play 24 hours a day and often there is no way to get a buff or heal if the buff bot is not on. Make Entertainer more fun to play and you will have more Entertainers, blaming the fact that no one wants to play it on AFK Buff Bots is just sticking your Head in the sand, and when you do that what part of your body is in the air.

No that thread did not state that lack of contetn was the cause of entertainment dieing it simply stated that they didn't have the same access to content as combatents. The thread went on to state that neither did crafters or any other non-combat profession. That has nothing to do with the state of the entertainment profession and was never implied as the reason by anyone in that so please don't twist the thread content now that others can't access it.

Personally I think Buffbots and buffbot supporters should be banned from this forum as NPC's have no rights. Why should their afk gameplay give them more time to troll these boards with their distorted views.

I love how they come to a board frequented by active live entertainers who love their class and tell us how boring our profession is and how buffbots are such a great service to them. I also find it interesting how a non entertainer can argue how buffbots don't hurt our profession when we are the ones who know this profession and they obviously know sqawt. While a buffbot may bring some people into a city, there are some as myself that will have nothing to do with a city, its merchants, or any of its services, if they support buffbots in their cantina. Its personal...

Absolutely. When I was looking for a new guild, I had several offers, and I had to turn almost every one of them down because there was no way I was going to be in a guild or a city that had buffbots. And, I won't patronize vendors of cities who use them.

Funny thing is, as you well know Mariki/Loniki, Citadel has no bots, but we have a decent amount of traffic that comes through for vendors, and live entertainment.

Sadly, I say yes. On my server the cantina has at least 3 buffbots going at all times. People invite you to a group and then ignore you while they suck the mind buff out of you. Bots spamming their horrible mispellings and whining about people not tipping, AFK-tainers spamming INVT ME PLZ .. and U BETER TIP.. and finally all of my non afk entertainer friends quitting, leaving me pretty much alone in a crowded cantina.. Sick of the lack of business and lack of general conversation and being treated like a bot,I cancelled my account.I went to the cantina on my second to last night and offered FreeDancebuffs (I never charge anyway)of the 25-30 people in there i got no response. So on a daring move i asked if anyonewas not afkand I offered 3 million credits and my +25 dance mind enhancement +25 BF +25 Wound Healing outfit to any one that was not afk. And i got no response. Perhaps one day ill return, but until then it stays with me! (thank god a bot wasnt actually ATK at that moment when i offered the outfit!) Thank you to all Live entertainer supporters! If it weren't for you I and many others would have been gone long ago!

Best wishes to all ATK players!
