It's ENT on Flurry too.

Check the Planetwide chat channel as well. I'll probably start advertising in there, once the bots are gone.

#1- are you talking about a root level chat channel, or one under servername.chat.channelname?

#2- The other use would be for entertainers to talk to each other, let them know that "hey, i'm the only one at the dant mining outpost and I need to leave soon, can someone else pop in to heal bf?"

#1 Hmm, I'm not sure, but I do know that the two I've ever joined were done with just (if the channel name is ent) '/chat join ent', and my instructions reflect that. If the other servers' channels are in a different section, please let me know, as I don't have characters on every server to verify the channels.
On a subpoint, I do plan on adding some more information on how to use the chat channel (such as creating a tab for it, adding it to another tab, writing to it, etc.), but to be honest, I don't remember too many of those specifics as I set it up how I liked it once and haven't had to deal with it since. I should be able to go in game Wednesday and play with it to add some of that information.

#2 That's very true, and a good use. I know on my server we entertainers tend to use it more for random chatter, but if our resident mining outpost buffers were to use it to announce when they arrived/left, that would be very useful. I'll add a small snippet, but the main point of the post is to instruct those who need to find an entertainer on how to do so. Thanks for the idea.

Hmm. Never heard of joined a channel on Wanderhome. But when I am there I'll start joining ENT as well. Good stuff here, 5 stars =)

Okay, a few things... Bria is chat.ent, not ent... it used to be ent originally. /chat join ent may still work... but I tell folks /chat join chat.ent just to be safe.

I started Bria's channel, way back when. I can point back to this post, which I wrote on, January 11, 2004. I am sure "ent" chat was up at this point, if not soon afterwards... I've been mentioning chats across the boards since then and I don't want to take credit for something I didn't do, but if I started the idea... and it has come this far, that is really cool. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong...

Anyways, here is the quick rundown on how I made "ent" chat what it is today. Before channels were persisitent, chat was deleted at each server restart. Someone had to recreate it each morning and people had to remember to join. You kids have it easy these days. Chat is there each morning and everyone who has joined once... auto-joins upon logging in.

Step 1: Getting folks to join...

My method, back in the day, involved nagging and lots of it. You had to get people to join and then rejoin each day. Email, mass tells and eventually I figured out the /chat invite ent command which sends a nice spatial message. However once you get people to join the first time... they are there for good now... assuming they don't /chat leave. This in itself presents a whole nother set of problems...

Step 2: Getting folks to stay (or in my day, just come back)...

Even if you get them to join, you still need people to use your chat... whether, they auto join or not. People can auto-join, but delete your channel, or hide it's tab deep in their chat bar. These folks are "lurkers!" The idea is, you have to make chat fun for them. Everyone, entertainers or not should feel welcome in chat. It is a place to have fun and joke around. To keep this light hearted atmosphere... I maintain a couple "Don't talk about it's":

1. Relegion

2. Politics

3. Philosophy

While these may be all good in class and RL... they are contreversial. People are stubborn about them and the "discussions" or "debates" will dominate your chat, in my opinion. Although a chat, is a good way for non ents to contact buffers... this is not the reason to make a chat. Chat is first and formost for the entertainers as a community. Make it a good community place. Make everyone feel welcome and your chat will thrive.

On a side note... somehow on the first day after the persistent channel patch...players on Lowca were able to somehow join Bria's ent chat. This only lasted one day. But has anyone else experienced a similar phenomenon.

Don't read this as wanting cross server channels... becuase if we had one, there would be so many ents and the chat would scroll by faster then the speed of light. People who say Coronet Spam is bad have never seen a full throttle CC... imagine that x10 and you get cross server ent chat. Is it worth it? Maybe... but it would be crazy.

Argh, actually the entertainer chat channel on Flurry is called EOF. There is a channel called ENT that somebody keeps creating, but it's always empty.

I haven't checked, but have you posted this in Core Systems. I hate the thought, as I'm sure the mods do, of spamming every place to get this message out. But, perhaps Core Systems is a centralized location where people may come across this thread and find it to be of use? It's a good idea to get the word out, without spamming the forums, that we entertainers want to be there for the other players.

I did post a link on the Game Guides forum. Do you think Core Systems would be better?
BTW, again, thanks everyone for all the positive and helpful feedback, I do hope this helps both entertainers and non-entertainers alike.

Not better necessarily. Just an idea to get the widest audience possible without spamming all of the forums. Maybe people read game guides more than core systems. But, it didn't occur to me to post it in game guides because I actually never go there.

Well, I've probably gone there a couple times when I really needed some information desperately...like some info about Jabba's themepark when I did it. But, Core systems might appeal to a broader audience that just go to discuss the game rather than looking for something specific. I visit there semi often. I could, of course, be wrong, but just an idea. Core Systems and Game Guides both aren't a bad idea...a couple of forums still wouldn't be spamming.

If you don't give the path to a chat channel, it uses servername.chat.room. So /chat join ent is the same as /chat join chat.ent or /chat join servername.chat.ent, or even /chat join SWG.servername.chat.ent.
