How to find an entertainer to heal or buff you
A common issue brought up by players of Star Wars Galaxies is that entertainers are hard to find for healing and buffing. Here are a few methods to use if you are in need of an entertainer and don't know where to find one.
Something to keep in mind while approaching entertainers: Just as with any other player in the game, politeness goes a long way toward getting what you want. Someone is much more responsive to a nicely asked request than to a demand. This is mentioned because the longstanding state of the game has led many to become very demanding of entertainers, and entertainers are particularly sensitive about the issue.
Networking
Best method: Get to know some entertainers. If you are in a guild, recruit an entertainer (or preferably several) to join the guild. It's a good idea to find both musicians and dancers, since dancers can buff your primary mind stat, while musicians can buff your secondary focus and willpower stats. Once you've gotten to know some entertainers, you can contact them just as you would any other player whose services you need. Putting them on your friends list will let you know when they are online, and it's easy to send them tells asking if they are entertaining or if they can come help you out. They may be occupied at the time, but as you get to know them, you will likely get a better handle on their party schedule
(or better yet, you'll become part of their party schedule!
).
Common Locations
If none of the entertainers you know is online, there are several means to find other entertainers. An obvious location to check, if you're near one, is a cantina. On most servers, you can consistently find entertainers in the cantinas in Coronet and Theed. However, you may not be near a cantina, and it's certainly not the only place entertainers can be found, so try one of the following methods.
Player Search Feature
If you want to see if there is an entertainer near you, you can use the player search feature. Hit ctrl-p, and find the tab named "Search". Under the profession listbox, select Musician, Dancer, or Entertainer, and you will find anyone within some distance of you whose title is currently one of those professions. You can then send the person a tell and ask if they can help you out with your healing or buffing needs. This will not find any entertainers whose titles are not up, so don't get completely discouraged if you don't find anyone with this. Move on to another method.
Planetary Map
If you want to find an entertainer on your planet, you can check the map for cantinas with registered entertainers. Note that entertainers gain the ability to register with a location only after reaching Novice Musician or Novice Dancer. Access the planetary map by hitting ctrl-v. On the right side of the window is a list of locations that you can display on the map. Players can register under "Cantinas", "Theaters", “Hotels”, “Taverns”, and "Guild Halls : Theaters", so you'll want to select these. Each of the locations will then appear on the map.
An image of the planetary map, showing the sun and moon icons.
You want to find the locations whose name has an icon that looks like a sun. This sun icon indicates that a musician or dancer has registered with the location. The locations with moon icons do not have a registered musician or dancer. An entertainer is just a shuttle or short ride away.
Planet Chat Channels
Another method for finding an entertainer on your planet is to check the planet or auction channels. Your mileage may vary greatly with this option, since it has not become a convention across the entire entertainer community to use these channels. However, if an entertainer happens to be watching these channels, or another player who is near an entertainer is watching these channels, you're likely to find what you need. While this method may not yield results as often as the others, it certainly does not take much effort and is thus worth a try.
Entertainer Chat Channels
If you want to find an entertainer when you're in the middle of nowhere and don't know where to go, most, if not all, servers have channels set up for entertainers to use, and that non-entertainers can use to find us. Below is a listing of each server's channel name known at the time of this writing. Simply type /chatroom join chat.channelname to join the channel, and then ask where to find one of us. You may even be able to entice some of us to come to you. This is by and large the easiest way to find entertainers when you're, say, stranded on Endor with no idea where to go. If your server is not listed, and there doesn't seem to be an entertainer channel on your server, you can help create one! You can create one yourself or ask some entertainers to do it, but either way, the more you get the word out, the more entertainers will be on the channel.

You might want to include other means of searching as well, such as planetary registration and the player search tool. These are very under-utilized at the moment.
Just include heavy disclaimers about registration's issues.

Would you let me know if your proposed change goes through? I'll hold off on adding 'ent' or 'noafk' until I hear a definitive answer.

Be sure to advertise your own Entertainer chat channels on your home server forums as well. I've compiled a list of Masters on Chilastra to ease the transition and give people contacts to add to their friends lists.
This is your chance to show some initiative and launch an entertainer revolution
Keep up the good work, my friends!

Sunrunner is still working to get theentertainment channel off the ground.
Are there any suggestions on how to best get the word out?
I'm considering setting up music performances at selected startports and advertising it with SPAM Lite (controlled barking).
Any suggestion on how best to set up the channel, like the settings to use would be very helpful.
EDIT:
Its finally coming together. There is now an ENT channel on Sunrunner!

Best way is to go out and meet people.
Just go to the Cantinas, find the live people, chat them up, tell them about the channel. And, voila, before long you'll have a channel where there's always some ents on to talk to. ![]()
And, yes, awesome thread.

LOL, I got blasted for suggesting people use the auction channel to find entertainers. I am glad this is better received and I will try to do a little digging on Lowca tomorrow when I get home from work and see if the BABE guild or one of the other entertainer guilds have a channel running.
Thanks for the list

I have proposed the ENT channel for Intrepid, as well. This would replace our old "NoAFK" channel.
