If this comes out as described I for one will probabally give up on DE as a profession. One question I will ask is that ifDH profession comes into being - who will make the droids they use? If they make their own then that would be the ultimate kick in the teeth for DEs.

SOE -- as an employee Mr.Strangl this includes you -- when are you going to realize this a paid-for online service? This is not a free beta. WTH should you expect any customer to wait for anything, let alone predict and try to persuade the game community that things will be working-as-designed or at least working-as-intended someday. Grow up! If you can't implement a change to correct a bug or situation admit it, so we can all decide intelligently if there are other parts of SWG we want to play or if this indeed is a game-breaker for us. You will have greater churn if you keep trying to appeal to the good will of your customers instead of providing them with accurate information, let alone what they want by consensus.

End of the summer = September 1st = 13 paidmonths since release = (13 months x $14) + $50game = $232, and then it starts getting fun? If you've got money to burn, thenit's worth it, but man, $232... Even the$98 more dollars from today til the end of the summer could buy two non-mmorpg games.

I do appreciate your forwards-lookingness, of course, but this sure is taking a long time to get right.

TH responded:

Very astute Questions Drashk.

1. No. I told the devs and the devs heard.

2. well, for the time being, there will be no "high end" droids.

It will be the same as Pets - no handling over LvL 10.

UNLESS, I can get good feedback from you folks on how to implement them.

We WANT Droideka's in the game, but since they arent going on the DE tree, they have to go in some Skill tree that makes sense. Players MUST spend points and skill boxes to get this "Droid Handling" ability.

The devs intend on adding a "Droid Handler" profession (which would work like Creature Handlers) but thats a "next phase" thing and isn't going to be considered until Summertime (July-ish).

So in summary, if we were going to add Droidekas (above level 10), which skill trees would/should get the certs?

1. I went to Drashk with what the current dev plan was (the process was transparent).
2. Drashk said no way (he clearly communicated your wishes)
3. I told Drashk what the challenges we need to over come would be (which he posted).
4. I made a casual comment in the weekly comment thread (to find out what non-DE's thoughts were).
5. People protested the change (which was loud and clear).
6. I've gone to the Dev team to urge them to re-consider.
7. Runesabre is creating a post right now which will explain all the angles to the discussion.

Drashk said he wasnt allowd to give out any information, so noone ever knew what the dev plan was in detail but neverthelessmany complained about. I dont think anyone want a delay, why cant we be handled like normal professions, who get infos and discuss their stuff after it went to TC. i think i just drop the game until summer or whenever droid changes get in if ever.

i would prefer to isolate the hardcore crafters that havent dropped DE until now, they should be seperated from droid use and thus we need 2 classes DE and DH. it works for BE/CH it will for droids, even better cause droids cant be tamed.

I'll start this by saying that this is the first time I've ever posted anything semi-negative about this game. With a statement like that, it would seem to legitimatize (sp?) the complaints of a great many people who say that we are still playing a Beta version. I know for one, that I'm not very happy to think that I'm paying $15 to Beta test for Sony. So I have to pay anothre $60 or more before the game gets fun again? Not cool.

With that said, I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the fact that I have seen NO love given to DE's of late, and am close to infuriated at the mere MENTION of a DH class before we get some combat droids. Does it not occur to someone, that if a BH wanted to use a good droid they simply wouldn't have the skill points to do so with the requirement of a DH class?

This is coming from a Novice DE and I may be talking out my a$$ here. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So basically all us ol' timer DE's will just quit and move on to other professions then it will not matter as much. What might make more sense is to just remove DE completely, consider it like the space expansion, and release it once its done. (Dare I even mention the space expansion ...I dont even want to think of when that will be out)

Vehicles work great, lovin them.

Mounts also great.

Player Cities ...perfect no complaints here.

Once DE is done just let us know, until then I'm closing shop (as it seems many of my fellow DE's have already done). As I pull up the global vendor list I can find hundreds of armorsmiths, med supplies, weaponsmiths etc ...but DE's? very few. I've visited most the DE shops on Tatooine and can honestly say of the 5 or so there most are unstocked. There's more chef vendors than DE ....sad indeed)

You can count me among the long list of ol' timers to quit. I've been a DE (at heart) from day one. Once I hit master I could think of nothing else I wanted to do, but even I cant deal with the customers anymore. Im tired of their questions about bugged droids, modules that dont work, droids that dont exist ... if one more person asks me what the BLL does I'll scream. It is after all a game and I'd like to enjoy it like I see my customers doing.

I'll of course be checking in on the forum from time to time and if I have anything useful to input I will do so. It may look like the easy way out but personally I suggest all of you DE's pick another profession. At BEST case this will not be resolved and "fixed" until Summer / Fall. You can master 10 other professions in that time. Get out there explore find your roots.....Its my thinking that it will be easier to have a level headed conversation about the future of DE's when you're not still pissed off at the BLL (yes I know they are fixing this one ...Great how long did that take... you're telling me there's a balance / game issue with adding a module slot to ONE droid????) staring at you smirking.

To my DE friends Im not gone from SWG, just on hiatus from DE itself.

As for you GnomeAd .....the purpose of the Dev boards is for developmental communication between the chosen few and the Devs. Not for public eyes (else it insights riots).

That being said ..

Right on ! Thanks for the info, I for one salute you

Re: Droid Invasion

I understand that the droids you are probosing may be powerful combat droids, or they may not be, we will not know til they are in game or we get some stats. But I do not understand why you are compating them to Creature Handler Pets. They are not pets, they are droids. Programable machines.

Creature Handler pets are living beings with personallities and manerisms that have to be dealt with by a trained Creature Handler (hense the Profession). Droids are machines that are programable (by a Droid Engineer) to act the way they program them, Obey who they program them to obey, ect......

To say that you need to spend SP or XP to be able to control a droid just doesn't make sese to me. If you want to make them profession specific fine (ie: Combat droid certs for combat professions, Surveying droid certs for crafting professions, ect....) and make the higher level droids only available to the Masters of those professions. But they should be the same droids available to all at certain levels (ie: Master Rifleman gets the same certs as a Master Carbineer), You can even give the Hybrid Classes specific droids (ie: Smuggler Droids, Bounty Hunter Droids, Combat Medic Droids). But not a seperate profession that is just absurd. This will bring about the same problems we had before the Creature Handler rebalancing last publish. All the bandwagon jumpers will flock to this profession and it will be R-o-b-o-P-o-k-e-m-o-n.

You also said something about Faction Pets. I am all for Making Faction pets dependent on Rank, but that should be all. I hope you are not thinking along the same lines and want to make us have to spend SP and XP to be able to control Faction Pets too. To me Faction Pets and Droids are much more similar than Droids and Creature Handler Pets.

Faction Pets - Soldiers who follow orders of thier superiors.

Droids - Machines who follow orders of who they are programed (by DE) to follow orders from.

CH Pets - Living beings with thier own personality and manerisms that need to be trained and controlled by someone who has the necessary skills and abilities to do so.

I also feel that if you want to really limit them and the amount that people can have and use they should take alot of resources and different types to make the higher the level ones. This will make them very expensive not only for the Droid Engineer to build but for the consumer to buy. Hopefully this will limit the amount players will be able to buy and Droid Engineers will be able to make.

I think Combat and other types of droids would be a great addition to the game, but if only a new profession (Droid Handler) or Droid Engineers are going to be the only ones able to use the high level ones I would rather not see them at all. I think it will just be a problem waiting to be NERFED.

Believe me, I've taken a beating today, but in the end, the issue is being looked at by the whole dev team, the community and everyone is involved. I have been the catharsis and thats what its all about; stiff discussion and debate is good for the community and the game.

It just reinforces my long-held belief that this game was released about a year early.

Actually, it might not be quite THAT early, but now development speed is constrained by production issues.
