That is the purpose of the Chef Profession, to provide foods that enhance player stats and abilities. As I've mentioned before, it is my intention not to duplicate classes. My goal for the Droid Engineers is to create more interesting utility oriented droids that does not mimic what existingprofessions do in terms of buffing player stats and abilities. The Droid Engineer is not a Chef profession; comparing the two is like comparing X-WingstoX34s.

Aye..shout it from the rooftops
What IS the PURPOSE of the Droid Engineer Profession - as seen by Developers
Mission Statement please..in readable English if at all possible, no ifs and maybes.
Thankyou
I LOVE THE DE FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!
first, i think Kurt should be replaced by a droid. they have about the same functionality!
As a fan of star wars and a player, i have been waiting and waiting for droids. and now we find out the extent of the improvemnetsis the droids are going be glorified disco balls. that isnt the game i signed up to play. i was hoping to hang around until the space expansion but on so many fronts it seems the devs just want to drive players away.
as far as droid functionality and skill mods go, i think the big problem is that droids should have been the focus 2 years ago instead oftrying to fit them in now. it should be the creature handlers who are now getting a "creature invasion" and bitching about their pets not having the power of a probot.
basically this entire droid invasion sounds like a bunch of hyped nothing. if their current timelines are any indication it could be another 6-9 months before anyone sees anything droid related the players will really enjoy.
And do you guys even have a correspodant. not that any of them are of any use but yours just seems completely AWOL.
i really wish some new sci fi game would come out soon.
I always thought a Star Trek MMORPG would be fun.... ![]()
Anyway, yeah. "Droid Invasion."
in·va·sion ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-vzhn)
n.
The act of invading, especially the entrance of an armed force into a territory to conquer.
A large-scale onset of something injurious or harmful, such as a disease.
An intrusion or encroachment.
Hm. I don't see any sort of "invasion" with these two patches, except maybe an invasion of patches made to screw over Droid Engineers, not enhance them. An invasion of lies, false promises, and circle-talking worthy of any politician. An invasion of complete incompetance by the Developers of this game and those who represent the player views to them, DE Player Correspondent excluded(maybe.I don't frequent the DE forums :-/).
You promise a droid invasion and give us nothing. Remove the title or live up to the name. THIS is what we expect when we see "Droid Invasion": NEW droids, at least 10; new functionality for existing droids; more modules; USEFUL combat modules; new designs of existing droids; upping the functionality of existing droids; fixing current DE bugs and issues.
Have you gotten my drift yet? You promise a whole lot of something and deliver a whole lot of absolute crap.
Offended?
So am I.

Excellent. So.....what does this mean specifically?
You've all asked us countless times to put forth ideas, suggestions, etc. to that end.
However, we have had precious little in the way of communication in-kind from the Devs on this.
What do YOU suggest be added, in regard to..."[adding] utility in a way that adds to the overall game and not a refinement or enhancement of a pre-exsting game mechanic."??
I think that most DEs will probably cancel if we get asked one more time to give you our ideas and suggestions. It's time for that door to swing the other way.

"I am certainly in favor in adding droid utility that enhances a specific profession's ability to do something. I don't mean to imply that that idea would be out of the question. I would prefer to add utility in a way that adds to the overall game and not a refinement or enhancement of a pre-exsting game mechanic. Ultimately it's all a balance of time, effort and resource that I have available to work with adn schedule. The main point I'm trying to get across is that just because I'm not wanting to duplicate existing functionality with droids does not mean that I have no plan of giving droids utility. "
OK, thanks for responding and clarifying that point for me (us). I can certainly understand why you would prefer to add functionality to droids that makes them uniquely useful rather than duplicating another profession's functions. It adds diversity to the game and prevents competition between professions. That leaves us with a lot of questions though, most specifically, how do the devs see droids and DE with respect to their place in the game?

We've posted a fairly detailed plan two weeks ago of what we are planning on doing in Publish 7 and Publish 8 as well as what we've already done in Publish 6.
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=24997
As the 315 posts that are in that thread mention, we feel the detail provided is inadequate. A few details about specific issues is desired as well as an overview of the true purpose (if any) of the Droid Engineer profession.
Your game development team has not provided this.
