AudioOrgana: I agree with your analogy (would've put up something similar but I'm trying not to flame) WhatI meant is that in terms of damage from combat modules vs number of utility modules in probots, we've got the same balance as before as far asI can tell. The armour nerf is still annoying though (Wish we had the option to put armour in combat module slots instead of a combat module)

Oh, and BTW, I absolutely love the idea at the end...My guess it would be too hard to implement, but that would be a perfect trade-off.

Hey Audio

Your analogy was absolutely spot on...good call.

Looks like the hamburger isn't coming, and we are out on the street still hungry to me.

Sad thing in game is, people are all rushing to buy the old probot, and I can't in good concience sell them, because we are all expecting them to be well and truly nerfed retrospectively..thats hard time man.

Oh yeah, one more thing: People keep comparing Droids to CL 10 pets, but most people forget that creature can have special attacks too. Maybe if another profession could make combat modules that give attacks like Knockdown, and Dizzy, and whatnot, and the Droid Engineer could put those in place of one or two of the droid's regular combat modules, it might make the droids better?

You obviously have not seen teh combat modules in action. I watched with my friend last night as he sent his new ATTACK droid r5 into action against a spice fiend yeah you know the real easy to kill guys that walk aroaund that a newbie might find difficuly with newbie weapons.

The droid got owned!

that r5 had 5 combat modules and still could not do crap with his litlte pizza cutter weapon and his ultra light lightning cannon.

yeah i see NO one inspired to buy combat droidsafter this publish.

SOE has struck again. The Dev's obviously have no clue what a "combat droid" is.

"making utility droids that benefit players would unbalance the game" - Wake up morons the game is already unbalanced. when you started babying Jedi toons and other professions and forgetting to fix the basics that need fixing.

the only time DE as a profession became important was when droids were bveing considered for COMBAT.

Get a clue.

I obviously haven't, since I don't play on TC. Still doesn't give you a reason to be a jerk I was just trying to offer something to the discussion instead of ranting like some people seem to like to do.

Yup.

And thanks - at this point it wasn't awfully productive to bring up the line of miscommunication, but when someone is making huge misrepresentations of what happened, I felt I didn't have much choice.

And that's the double-edged vibroblade here - not only can a Probot not do what it could before (be an effective tank), but it is going to cost constant upkeep in consumables. Now in order to use a droid properly you need to carry batteries, stimpacks, and reconstruction kits (unless someone else with you has a repair droid).

And not only are they less effective tanks than before, they now cannot carry any utility modules if you want the combat benefits. This probably will hurt my business, rather than help it. I'm convinced the only reason I sold Probots was the combined utility/combat aspect they carried, and now this multipurpose aspect is gone as well.

I'd think, from a money-making aspect, this is kind of a good thing. It means 2 droid sales instead of one. One for 'utility' and one for combat.

Would be if the new combat one is good, it isn't so nosense. People don't want non efficient decayable droids.

I understand the trepidation on the Probots. I have yet to really give mine on TC a whirl, so I want to reserve making any comment until I've had a chance to put it through its paces myself.

Respectfully,

You can ask a customer to maintain an efficient combat or utility droid, not a scrappy R2 duck taped with a blaster on his head.

The idea to put droid in 2 class : utility and combat is very good BUT only if combat and utility are worthy, wich isn't the case...

The good idea is to make decaybale armor modules. People need and want a small tank. Most of them don't care if the droids don't do a lot of damage, they are the damage dealer. And I don't think they would be happy if their droids was dealing more damage than they do...

And about droids bombs please get rid of this stupid idea. If you want to make bombs fix commandos frags and give them bombs. I can tell tell the commandos won't be happy to see any player canhave efficientbombswithout spending any skill points...

Ok, while I know its not a great upside, there is some upside. The best tank for droids on TC is currently the LE repair droid, since damage really doesn't matter on it, you can just throw on one combat module so its got the attack option and still have room for 2 utility modules. Its not as good of a tank as the probots with medium armor was, but its still something I guess.

Just a quick head's up on my testing experience with the new Probot (thanks Drashk).

If found that when I tanked and let the Probot go ranged, it lasted much longer. I would suggest, when these hit, that this be the recommended method for their use. If a player has a CL10 creature (which they will be able to have out at the same time as the new Probot), let the creature tank and the Probot (and JoePlayer) provide damage.

Thanks, TK. I know this point isn't lost on you, but this situation is a bad turn of events. The probots meager tanking ability -- once is only feature -- has been nerfed.

If you're looking to whip this out on Dantooine, you're out of luck. However, in a group situation, I suspect that it will be more helpful than it was before due to the change in damage output (since players/creatures can tank).

The 'cats' that want to solo with a Probot, a CL10 creature and their own combat skills...

They are going to need to be pretty careful where/when/how they apply use of the new Probot.

I seem to remember quite a few comments relating to the idea that people wanted players to matter...and not rely quite so much on pets (droid or otherwise).

While I recognize that this situation really isn't the best, I think that we will still be viable in some ways...less in others (for now).

Also, to be honest, I have to say that (while I think we made the right call), the DEs themselves were sort of the ones that shot themselves in the foot on this. I know Audio (and others) are hurting on this but keepin mind a few points:

  • The Probot CL10ish level was intended to be a lower-level/entry pet. We now have other options and don't have to make/sell the Probot exclusively for a combat role. The LEs and others are now viable for clients (Yes, they aren't super powerful)

  • We shot down the "good" CL10+ combat droids by putting the whammy on DH/DC. Let's not get into how/why that occurred and all the stuff that went with it. The point is...we had a chance to get the higher level droids and we (rightly) shot it down. It just means we have to wait longer for the stuff that people have been waiting on.

  • Combat/HAM revamp, etc., is in the works and the changes now (for us, creatures, weapons, mobs, etc.) are all in flux (and will be for a bit).

More to come...when I can...

That's not a good use for a droid. The extra damage will only eat up players' exp. Tanks are what is needed.

Sodan,

Try to keep in mind what led to Probots getting the initial nerf to begin with...so many moons ago. The Devs (best as I can tell) aren't thinking of Probots as being big-time tanks. That's sort of what led us down this bumpy road.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, man, but we have to be honest with each other here. This is a nerf. And in the context of the fact that droids cannot be buffed by doctors, food or /enrage; in the context of the fact that droids have no special attacks; in the context of the fact that droid now have a zero armor rating compared to soem creatures, its a big nerf and it leaves us decidedly underpowered.

Iagree that there is a somewhat convoluted history as to what led us here and I don't think the devs are entirely to blame, but ask yourself if -- apart from bug fixes -- we are any better off now than we were before.

Anyway, we still have yet to see what Publish 8 will bring so the jury is still out. I think its important that we keep the tone on here positive, but putting a happy gloss on unfortunate changes is not going to get out concerns across. We need to be vocal but constuctive. Too positive or too negative is not going to do the trick.

Well...since I just stepped into this role, let me state:

I really hope that I don't get beat down big-time next week.

I will continue to research, report and bring the DE communities concerns to the PTBs. That's about all that I really can do here, folks. The ultimate decision on any move/change is really up to them.

What do you mean by this?

BTW, I have confidence in yoru ability to be a great Corr, man. I am conveying my opinion on DE concerns. I am sure you will convey it along with others' concerns as well to the devs.

I mean...think of all the players (non-DEs, who don't stay 'up' on the DE issues and such) that will beat down all DEs.

Then, think about how they might cue in on the DE Corr. as somehow being behind the changes and/or approving of them.

I'm just foreseeing that I might get blasted by a lot of people that aren't in the know and don't realize that I stepped in at a time when all of this was already well set in motion.

Already there. I'll be working up a post to let them know where DEs are thinking this is all headed (which is, in a negative direction).
