Thread: Droid Certs? NO! Make a Pet Skill Tree Never Seen before, something new.
I think to close the circuit to make it allowable over DL10, the devs would need something along the lines of vitality causing irreparable harm on death. Though it should be repairable for no loss if not incapped. That way over time the droids will have to be replaced, so you dont end up with a uber droid that lives forever (unless youhave a **edit** good player).
Woohoo! Tamagotchi-droids! (will anybody get that?)
Jesting aside, I think this is an awesome idea. However, in order to meet TH's stated DEV requirements, even as it "matured" or learned, it wouldn't be allowed to progress past CL10.
If that's the case, is it worth it?
I do like the idea of hot-swappable modules, though.
Anyone should be able to wield a high level droid, given the right class. So in their concept of this system, a Master Rifleman can get a Droideka simply by virtue of being a Master Rifleman.
That's right - they're idiots.
We all SHOULD know that the droids have to come with a price in skill points or else they'll be unbalanced. We all SHOULD know that the proposed combat certifications only creates an environment in which every combat player pulls out the absolute most uber combat droid they can come up with - and we consequently would see groups of 10 players and 10 uber combat droids, in the old Creature Handler style. We all SHOULD know these things - and many of us do.
But there are still some that remain idiots, incapable of learning.
For my part, I'd love for Droid Engineer to ALSO be the Droid Handler. I've been saying it for quite some time now, and it's logically consistent that only an engineer could actually run and maintain a machine as complex as a droid for very long in field conditions.
how many times does thunderhearthave to say " Droid Certifications is a big combat imbalance" to get through peoples heads to tell them cert wont happen

Combat imbalance is all over this game. My pistoleer can not take on a CH with 3 rancor. My pistoleer can not take on a TKA master.
If people are here to be UBER powerful rather than experience the different aspects of this game, they are not going to need a droid to do it. They can be TKA/CH or Commando/CH. For people wanting to be UBER powerful, they have already realized this, and they will stay that way.
There are more people wanting to explore the different parts of this game than people who want to just be the strongest. The cantina is FLOODED with entertainers. They are by no means powerful. It just is a kewl thing to experience. To be able to play that new song, or dance that new move...it is something not often done in games.
Who cares if it is combat imbalanced, really? At least it adds to good quality content to this game woth exploring. The only thing I see which would cause great concern for imbalance is PvP, but still...if you take on a TKA master with a weaponsmith or something, that TKA is going to come after you & kill you before you can get the firstcommand out to your droid.
Maybe he can tag it along.
I like the idea!

This might be a possibility.
Assuming you want the removal of the DH profession idea and Droid Certifications is a big combat imbalance, adding a Droid Tree to the DE profession might be an option. It would probably work more like a "sprinkling" of Droid/Pet possibilities throughout the profession though. Otherwise you get a lopsided skill advancement.
How do you guys feel about something like this?
Honestly that seems like the obvious solution to me. And I think it's more in line with balancing DE against CH than the proposed analogy of DE/DH to BE/CH. Sure BEs can enhance pets significantly, but a CH can tame, train, and use powerful pets without any help from a BE at all. And it's not like DE is completely independent of any other class; we require several key components from Master Artisan.

NO. this is the same thing as a DH. it would be taking droids from everyone in the game and giving them to one class. Droids should permate every aspect of the game. They should be as plentiful as Vehicles, blasters, and Aliens.
I think that's an over reaction Kav. I don't think TH is suggesting that all droids would be limited to DE, only some advanced, primarily advanced combat, droids. Droids would still be plentiful, especially if the improvements that are to come are to other capabilities of droids in addition to combat.
CH isn't a pure combat class, sure it leans that way, but they tame and train pets, they produce mounts for other players, they produce pets for other players, and they use more powerful versions of these petsthan other classes can. It's a hybrid profession encompassing more than combat. I see DE as being a similar beast, leaning towards the crafting side, we build and program droids, we produce profession enhancing droids for BHs and Medics, we produce general use droids for everyone (crafting stations, etc), and we use more powerful versions of these droids than other classes can.

Interesting. Easily knocks the DH idea on the head while (if I read it right) allows us to use what we can make?
Not sure how this 'sprinkling' would help combat droid sales though. In terms of non-combat droids fine.

you know you got a point here
I still like the idea of DEs using the combat droids (since they have roughly similar point expendatures to a CH who can use uber pets that they train in the wild (several I might add). Then for the combat professions you either cert at mastery (and cap at one), or have all elite combat masteries reconverge on a droid use tree that costs additional points (just make sure professions like BH have enough points).
This has the benefit of encouraging specialization, reducing dabbling (asusming the droids are worth it), and ensuring decent balance.
