Some of you think the Real fun here is obviously debating, and foolishly thinking your arguments, no matter how verbose, will change the minds of others or make yourselves look like you are in the majority, You're Not.

to many pure crafter DEs are screaming so all DEs are forced to remain pure crafter instead of letting all DEs have the choice to play how they like.

Please don't start with that again. Weaponsmiths can't use guns. Bio-engineers can't use creatures. Droid engineers shouldn't be droid handlers.

Then don't continue it.......

Check the In Development section (not forum) for the announcement.

The thread was going to start this last week Jan 5-9, but I was reading somewhere else how busy TH was.

I'd rather they get the post RIGHT so that we have solid information to talk about than throwing vague crap against the wall to see if it sticks.

I just hope they adjust the schedule and give us adequate time to discuss those items.

It seems a pretty limited scope, but people might have alot to say on those particular topics.

I think they're still working out the kinks and haven't thoroughly considered the problem with numbering topics in the Dev Cycle sections.

Shouldn't number them till they're actualy posted in the forums, and then a topic should keep the same item number through the entire dev process.

I think its VERY unlikely they will change the DE tree in anyway (such as changing a branch). I think its pretty fair to say at this point the system they constructed is very rigid and change isnt simple. At the very least to change the tree, they would need to make it so any body with DE skills but not MDE will have to have all their skills removed, and xp reimbursed. Which on the one hand doesnt seem tough, but on the other hand they do have prebuilt caps to xp they would have to get around. Otherwise what was customize 1 may now be droid use 1 and that would fubar people working on the DE tree.

Im sure they can easily add skills to the existing system. but moving them around the tree would be a nightmare for them probably.

At any rate, this arguing in a fish bowl, swimming around and around is counterproductive. The devs have there idea andarguing isuseless till they say what it is, and at that point, we _might_ get a chance to disagree and minorly tweak something assuming they havent already finished coding and moved on.

They also did talk about reordering/reiterating the DE profession itself (right on the "Droid Invasion" page, in fact).

This says to me that there may well be lower-level changes in store for us.

Anyone that's read my DE Focus Threads (tm) knows that I think such changes are possible and, in some cases, needed, logical and helpful.

yeah. they've moved things around between the skill trees before. clearly not a nightmare.

as for pure crafters having no need for multiple droids out at once: that doesn't make sense to me. shoot anyone who owns droids has a use for having two out at once, for the simple fact that there is no other way to use the power droid and/or the repair droid to fix your own droids.

I have little intention of being very combat oriented but I definitely am annoyed to no end that I can only have one droid out at a time.

If the master bot is the best combat droid and that goes against your principles, DON'T MAKE ONE! It's not like it is the only combat droid they are going to make! If the master bot is some bonus crafter GREAT, BUT YOU STILL CANT SELL IT SO WHO CARES IF THE MASTER BOT IS A COMBAT DROID!

I don't think you really understand the intricacies of the situation.

Many DE are afraid that if the skills for USING combat droids are placed in the DE skill tree in a hphazard fashion, everyone will be making combat droids and no one will be buying them.

The crux of the problem is this (pay attention).

If combat droids are hard to use - you have to take the whole DE skill tree or master DE kust to use them - WHO are you going to sell these 'best' combat droids to???

OTHER DE who can make combat droids themselves???

NOT!

Regular old players need to be able to spend skill points to USE combat droids.
BUT they shouldn't have to master DE to use them or we won't have anyone to SELL them to.

SEE?!?!?!

For a market to exist, people need to be able to USE them, but not MAKE them.

That's why making it easy for people to USE droids is GOOD.
Putting them in a position where they have to take most of the DE skill tree in the process is BAD.

SO, if they only need to take a few skill boxes in DE to use combat droids, that's all they'll do - take a few skill boxes.

But IF they have to take most of the DE skill tree just to use combat droids, they'll just make their OWN combat droids - they won't be buying them from anyone else, they'll be making them.

So to reiterrate:

Use - good.

Make - bad.

Ya, I know, I'm repeating myself.

Perhaps if I explain it several different ways, you might understand.

Or it will sink in, which ever comes first.

So here's the stumper.

If the devs give us DE-only combat droids - that you need to take DE skills to use - how can they do it so it's easy for people to use them without everyone just making their own???

How bout if only one branch of the DE tree had the use skills in it?

So people would need to take Novice Artisan (15),Artisan Engineering (14),Novice DE (6), anda DE Usage branch (14) wherever it might go.

People would actually be a little ahead in Skill Points if they choose to use combat droids rather than combat creatures since CH needs two branches in Scoutinstead of just one (15+14+14+6+???).

But the combat droids might not be quite as good as the higher level combat creatures they'd get if they took CH.

So you trade a little combat power for fewer Skill Points.

AND, we DE get to use the combat droids too.
Without totally ruining the entire profession.

Hope that makes sense, I can' think of any other way to explain it that you might understand without repeating myself several more times......

Trekkies? Droids? There were no droids in Star Trek. Whatchu talkin about Lead?

This situation, I understand totally and I agree, in fact I didnt see one post in this thread where anyone was for DE's being the only ones allowed to controll all the combat droids (There may have been one or two in the thread that I accidentally skipped over.)

What I did see, and my post above wasabout was numerous people crying foul about the possibility that there would beONE exclusiveMASTERDE droid that it would be a combat droid....better than the other combat droids. They want it to be soley a crafting centric droid.

Now, I understand that we are a crafting profession, but is it gonna kill anyone if our master bot is a combat droid?! If it were a crafting droid, it would still be useless to anyother profession just like it would if it were a combat droidbecause either way you cant sell it. I would think that especially the pure crafters in here would want a de only combat droid because you have no fighting skills, that makes planting harvestors on endor for extrusive ore a little difficult dont you think? If you had a good combat droid combined with your mount pet or whatever, it would be easier to escape from a hairy situation, or you might actually be able to clear a mob to set down your harvestor in the spot that you want.

My other gripe was sort of a tangent about this notion that I see on many threads that any slight departure from the crafting ideals, or especially droids that are configured in such a way that no reference can be found about this in the books or movies is some kind of George Lucas theological bible thumping heresy! What is up with that. This is where the trekkie comment comes in( i.e. There is no such thing as an astromech with a weaponbecause the computational algorithims for the xe92 processor is not designed for balistic calculation blah blah blah!Of course I am greatly exagerateing but you get the idea.)

I would definately want this game to have as others have said a "starwarsy feel to the game." and it has plenty of that. It would also be nice for this profession to have sh$t that is FUN also that doesnt necessarily have soley to do with crafting.

One combat droid that can only be controlled by a master droid engineer that is better than the other combat droids is not going to send 99% of players to start craping mse droids and adv framing units to master this profession because it is one droid and it costs you a bunch of you skill points to get that one possibly uber droid!

On a side note, understand that the emotion in my post is more comical exagerated sarcasm. I would also like to say that I definatley apreciate those who are very critical about the direction that this profession goes, because those people also are the only people on this entire website that not only come up with alot of great ideas, they also are the only ones on this entire website that try to make those ideas fit correctly into the game so that the profession is balanced before the devs even look at it. I peruse the fencer boards alot and nobody there says anything to the like of "This is a good idea, but we need to scale it back because it would make us too powerful or it would take advantage of the archetect profession." The only thing you will read are suggestions to make fencers way more powerful like Dual wield capability, more speed and less ham for specials. My bashing is more light hearted because I think this is the coolest thing about the DE community!

I'll take a stab at explaining this for you. Droid Engineer is, at this point in time, purely a crafting profession. Yes, we can make a combat droid, but ANYONE can use it. Therefore, we are no more a combat profession due to the existence of the Probot than Chefs are.

That said, since we are a crafting profession, does it not make more sense for the Master-level perk to be crafting related? Or at the very least, related to Droid Engineer-specific types of activities? Combat is not something that is Droid Engineer specific, so why should our unique Master-level perk be a combat droid?

Now, I understand that we are a crafting profession, but is it gonna kill anyone if our master bot is a combat droid?! If it were a crafting droid, it would still be useless to anyother profession just like it would if it were a combat droidbecause either way you cant sell it. Yes, but an uber crafting droid will not attract non-crafters to the profession. An uber crafting droid is more in keeping with the profession as it currently stands, and is therefore less risky to implement.

I have no trouble planting harvesters wherever I need them. I picked up Rifleman in addition to Droid Engineer so that I could be somewhat adventurous. However, it is by no means necessary to have a combat skill in order to be a productive and profitable Droid Engineer. There are many players who are, for lack of a better name, miners by profession. All they do is harvest resources and sell them to people who do not wish to, or cannot, mine for themselves.

Furthermore, there is no need for my own personal combat droid to be any better at combat than the one I can sell to my friendly neighborhood Bounty Hunter, Commando, or Squad Leader. Why should my combat droid be better than theirs? As a Droid Engineer, I know next to nothing about combat. Shouldn't a Commando be able to use a combat droid better than I can? A Commando is trained in strategy and tactics, in the proper use of range vs raw firepower, and at reading the weakness(es) of an enemy. How can a lowly Droid Engineer compete with that training?

Sorry, had to experiment with the colors.

Kollos,

It is not necessary to stab at it, I get where you guys are comming from and I agree that your point of view is every bit as logical as any other. The thing is that I think it is cool either way. I have stated in other posts that I am definately down with the omni droid. All I am saying is...ARE DROID ENGINEERS GOING TO HAVE TO BE RENAMED " DROID ENGINEERS WITH SLIGHT UNDERTONES OF A COMBAT CLASS BECAUSE OUR PROPRIETORY DROID IS A COMBAT DROID" ? No, we will still be droid engineers. It just seems to me that some of you guys in the crafting corner have the position like " It better be a crafting droid or I am gonna quit the game, call my congressman, start the "our kids should be good little crafters" youth group, and go smoke a joint with George Lucas an reminis about the days when crafters were CRAFTERS!

Its not gonna ruin anything if our proprietory droid is a combat droid plus it might be FUN! If it is the crafting droid or omni droid fing schweet dude!

Well in that case let's give Master Bounty Hunters the ability to craft their own uber weapon! C'mon, it's only ONE weapon, it's not like it would actually change anything, right?

Might as well let Commandos, Pistoleers, Carbineers, Riflemen, Swordsmen, etc, etc all craft one uber weapon too, right? Or maybe we should let them craft one Droid...

uhm... to make some things clear, combat droids will be cl 10 or lower and sellable to everyone like creatures are. there might be 1 droid that looks diffrent and is about cl11 or 12 which only DEs can use. now what will this change? nothing.

DEs will not get their personal deathstar with legs following them arround blasting planets k.
