Thread: Droid Focus (Interplanetary Survey): Information, discussion and bug-reporting (04/23/04)
Dsabre brought up a good point, or made me think of a good point either way. I belive it should give the Stats of the resources. The Organic Resources are always spawned, same with Fiberplast. Why would I send out a Survey Droid to see if Naboian Berries have spawned, becuase I bet you a RL nickel that they are there. I don't care what Server you are on. Same with all the Planet Specific resources, Dantooine Fiberplast, Lokian Wheat, Dathomirian Tubers, Talusian Water and so on.
It just matters what the stats are on those spawns or where the highest concentration. Since I have to survey for the concentration, and always should, it should give the stats.
Just something to think about

Latest patch - crafting works !!!
Biggest news - experimental number of uses!! 1/2 the way up gets you 10-11 uses
there is a quality experimenter - dont know what that does yet
more news when the droid returns.

And it took 30-32 minutes to return to me at mechinism qualiity 40 (not sure if quality effects speed or not)
I don't think it does, I launched one with a rating of 40 or so, and the other had a rating of 54. They came back with the same time difference (and in the same order) as they were launched.
Personally I think that they should do away with the survey tool requirement and just have the ability to select one method of survey (mineral, chemical, gas, etc..). They could bump up the resources to do this. Or make a survey modules that has this ability. So you use the droid pick out planet and what you want to survey and away it goes.
I would like the droids to only be used by people that have Survey IV.
Being that there could be 20 different types of resource names in the list it sends back that you can use another droid or droid charge and have it go back and sample 5 resources for stats.
So you use the droid pick out planet and type of survey and enter the names of resources to take samples of. Then is sends the stats of the 5 resources back to you in an email.
This is what I would like the survey droid be able to do.

Multiple uses does certainly make them more viable.
I think the current tool requirement is GOOD, here is why. You can carry a crate of these droids (which can be used for all types of sureying) then just carry 2 stacks of the resources needed to make tools. Since you need to be Novice Artisan to use it, you can make tools. This way you don't need to carry, different types of bots, different types of tools or whatever. Want to survey? Crank out the tool you need and go. This is part of the reason why I think it is good you need to be Novice Artisan or higher.
Novice Artisans should get a simple list of of what resources are available.
Level 4 Surveyor should get what resources are available, plus stats on about 75%
Master Artisan should get list of resources and all stats.
Let's face it, a level 4 surveyor can hit a planet, find whats there and doesn't usually need to travel very far to get samples. I have found SWGCRAFT to be very useful, plus our server has it's own database, which makes things very useful. If these droids will ever compete with the out of game websites, they need to be at least almost as good.

This droid had me very excited - until I read the specs on it. I fear this won't be useful enough for anyone to purchase it as it currently stands, so here's what I suggest:
1) The droid MUST return some sort of resource stats. This could be handled three ways:
1a) If you don't use an OPTIONALsurvey tool, the droid only returns a list of resources with no stats. If you do include one, you get the whole list of stats (but NO CONCENTRATIONS)
I wouldn't be worrying about the Vertex. There's no experimentation on it, so any kind works - the instant it spawns you just dredge up a million units, and you're set. No need to worry about resource quality.
What I'd be more worried about is the utility. Generating a list of resources on the planet isn't that interesting, especially not for the resources required for this droid, which is compounded by the fact it's expendable. Expendable droid of this nature is good for repeat business for DE's so that's good, but either bring down the resource requirements so that they are quite cheap or bring up the functionality to include stats. The hard work is to find the densities.
I'm all for moving this up in the Artisan tree, higher than plain Novice. I saw some calls for a droid that does limited survey for requring no skills, but that is a big no no - giving a class skill for free is never a good thing.
