Thread: What droid handler class will do to DEs
I for one am what many would consider a 'pure' crafter. Yes, sure, I have some Marksman Pistol skills (if 0/3/0/0 can be considered skills), but that is simply because I was for the longest time unable to avoid fighting while servicing my harvesters.
My skill points are as follows: Master Droid Engineer, Master Artisan, Master Merchant, Scout 1/0/0/0 (I THOUGHT I'd drop scout with vehicles, but that was a fantasy) and marksman 0/3/0/0.

I think this is what i comes down to. The pure crafters finally got their wish. The rest of us -- the MAJORITY of us -- got screwed. I always said that pure crafter was the only option that would leave many DEs out in the cold and now we have it. No more oportunity to roleplay a hybrid DE, its Crafter DE or nothing. (Do the Math before you reply: Master Artisan, MDE, MDH -- what's left? Can it even be done?)
Both sides had extreme versions that left someone out in the cold. You have a gift for exaggeration, Sodan. ![]()
And the last time a poll on the subject was held, 60-odd percent of respondents said that they were pure crafters. Drashk manipulated the definitions in order to get what he incorrectly labeled "pure crafter" down to 30%. I'm a pure crafter, yet he had me in his 60-oddpercent majority group that was a basically a catch-all. The majority of respondents said that they were pure crafters, so it's only the minority of you that have been screwed. (And I think that's still up for debate.)
And finally, yes it can be done. You don't need MA to be a DE/DH. It's useful, yes, but far from necessary. Just find yourself an MA and pay them to make you schematics for the components you need. Jenden has posted that it takes about 5 minutes and 5k to get such a schematic made in Coronet. So that leaves Engineer 4 + MDE + MDH which is only 155 points. That leaves you 95 points to do something else on top of all the droid lubbin' you could ever want. (Which might include needing to satisfy pre-requisites for DH... we don't know what those are going to be yet.)
Right now we basically enhance the Medic professions, and are a requirement for BH and the rest can care less about us.
And what do you care about them?
I'm getting a bit tired of reading how certifications should be added to all the combat classes to use your droids, because the combat balance is already borked as it is. Who chooses what classes to get what certifications? You? Or will you just blanket add certifications to everybody, forcing everybody to purchase droids?
'Cause that's exactly what would happen.
You add an inherint advantage of any kind and that advantage will go from being a convenience today, to being a requirement in order to play tomorrow. It's the nature of how online games work.
And until the already rediculous nerf cries against half the combat professions that DO exist stop, I and people like me will be against frivolous changes like this.
Do you want droids in the game? Not little mobile storage devices, or data-pad fillers that come out only to add a bonus to a skill. I mean REAL droids that do something and are important. Do you want them in the game?
Droid Handler, if it comes out, will probably be buggy as hell and backwards in the beginning, but has every chance of paving the way for new, real, and USEFUL droids in the days that follow without screwing all the existing classes out of their already borked combat balance. Not only that, but it creates a class of characters that are DESIGNED to be ready droid engineer customers.
Why would any of you want to fight this?
This is great entertainment, I truely mean that! You can no longer get this type of quality or raw material on television. Everyone, keep up the good work.
Some of the greatest comedy arrives when you least expect it.

We are primarily a crafting profession, that means we make things to sell. Till now we have been able to sell to everyone. If DH comes in a sizable chunk of our wares will be limited to a statistically minor spectrum of the market. As for certs, they are the best method for fairly permitting players access to droids.
Up until recently an Imperial could get an AT-ST to hunt animals with, that was one hell of an inherent advantage, but did everyone become an Imperial and get an AT-ST to hunt with, nope. CH's have an inherent advantage because they can have multiple high level pets that can let them hunt most spawns solo that the rest of the combat professions couldn't even dream of tackling, but does everyone become a CH, nope.
We don't want a DH class, we want everyone to have a fair chance at using droids, no where in the movies or expanded universe has it ever been stated that you require special knowledge to use droids. Luke wasn't a Droid Handler yet he had not one, but two droids. The Nemodian leadership wasn't the brightest bunch yet they had a freaking army at their command. All professions should get access to combat droids, a full across the board cert. Novice Novice, Master Novice, Novice Elite, Master Elite. Forget combat profession, forget crafter profession, if your wealthy enough to own a droid you should be able to use it. Since the Devs are uptight about new players getting uber droids, the 4 part cert would mirror the world, if you've excelled at an elite profession hypothetically you should be able to afford a high end droid.
The combat professions desperately need a combat balance. Some sections are ridiculously overpowered while others are so badly underpowered that it's a miracle that anyone plays them. Fencers skill point to skill point are some of the weakest in the game because their weapons are weak.
I want droids in the game, I want hoards of the little buggers all over the place. In the movies you could hardly go to a new scene without seeing one, they are an integral part of the world and so far the game has not lived up to whats needed in that regard.
If we get Droid Handler as a profession it will be buggy as all hell, but it won't get fixed like you say it will. The same argument you have was applied to Droid Engineering, Squad Leaders and Chefs, guess what, we're still bugged all to hell and in desperate need of fixing.

Help me understand why DH will ruin DE, I see a lot of people strongly opposed to it but dont see much reasoning behind it. You can still make all the same droids you make now for all of the non DH's so you will still have the same amount of sales as before only with the DH treeyou will have new combat droidsto make for the DHers. How does that make DE worse?
Ok, here goes.
Droid Engineers produce ONE item that's used in other professions: Driod Storage Compartment. Everything else is for Droids. ----Bio-Engineers produce from a full tree, specifically for use in OTHER professions' enhancements.
Historically, Droid Engineers have had minimal affect on the populous, save YOU Bounty Hunters. Anyone else can get along without a droid. Yes, DE's would have a profession to build pets for, but that would basically leave DE's the same place they are now, and not being able to use what they've made.
*sigh* this whole issue disgusts me. The blatent lies by TH, the DE nerf (as if we weren't **edit**ing nerfed enough). Do they want us to enjoy the game? I don't think so.
I've half a mind right now to write to the CEO of SOE and request TH's resignation. Telling bold-faced lies to your customers is not the way to do business.
You people are pathetic. You had a chance to get a hybrid capability, but instead you pissed it all away in the name of crafting "purity". You demanded that Droid Engineers not also be Droid Handlers, when given the choice. So now there's going to be a completely separate Droid Handler class, and you're pissy about it.
You make polls that are notable for their bad wording and fairly rigged nature. You advertise them in a manner that makes the preferably outcome clear. Lord, radical news organizations would love you. You hold your pointless little meetings - convocations of like minds who are clinging to orthodox views of what a Droid Engineer should be, not knowing that your ideas are 6 months and more obsolete.
The only people this change hurts are the Droid Engineers who don't take pride in craftsmanship. That's it - nobody else. Nobody ever made any promises that the whole game population could own their very own Droideka. But it should damned well have been obvious to you that they weren't going to let everyone and their brother own a droid that would pose a major battlefield threat.
The competent Bio-Engineers haven't suffered from their new role. Neither will Droid Engineers - this will be a financial boom for us in the long run. We can sell all the droids we do now, but we can also sell highly refined combat droids to Droid Handlers. The quality of craftsmanship will actually mean something, which it almost doesn't now.
This is giving the Droid Engineers a meaningful role, and you all want to grab for a little more?
Please, leave. Your hypocrisy disgusts me. Leave the real engineers and craftsmen to their work, and go sulk somewhere else.
