Thread: What droid handler class will do to DEs

Heh, knew I would get a few backs up with my last post.

It's quite simple really, TH looked at the forums and saw the negative impact giving combat droids certs to existing combat classes would cause, he then thought about giving them to everyone, and regardless of what system that came to mind in their little corner of the SOE building, they realised that giving combat droids in addition to existing combat skills would trivialise a LOT of the games content. Now I don't know how many of you played Everquest, but SOE are really really strict about how content should be not too hard and definitely not too easy, even to the extent of dramatic changes across the board in order to keep encounters a challenge.

So DH isn't what people wanted, I personally love Drashk's cert system, I'm a Smuggler and it would be great for me, cause I just want droids, atm that I have CH as a second profession. But I just think DH is their fallback plan for not screwing up the games content completely when adding the droids.

I think the one-star-idiots should stop one-starring every single serious post thats against their beliefs.
And this community should stop beating at others that don´t share their opinion. Why does everyone feel entitled to educate those who think different ? Serious discussion - yeah, everytime. "Your not with us ? Get educated on the issue and come back when your thinking the right way" - come on, guys, you´re better than that.

Think about it.

First, as many have pointed out in the past, there are already professions that have combat abilities that are not based off of Marksman or Brawler. Smuggler, anyone? How about Combat Medics? And yes, I appreciate the irony that I'm the one now using that argument. I hope you appreciate the irony that I'm using it against you.

I'm sorry did you just hold up Smuggler as an example of a profession that doesnt require Marksman or Brawler? Smuggler? The profession that requires both unarmed IV from Brawler and pistol IV from Marksman? Combat Medic? That well known profession that requires ranged weapon support ability specialist from Marksman?

Try and research your arguments before you use them. Droid Handlers have been discussed until Droid Engineers were blue in the face for the past 4 months on these boards. I presume the lack of research you put into your arguments about 'non-combat' combat professions also applies to the research you have done on the Droid Handler implications and the MANY MANY MANY alternatives suggested by Droid Engineers for certifications for Combat Droids for all.

Well, after careful consideration, I voted "No" to the creation of a seperate DH profession.

At first,I was completely flabbergasted by TH's assertion that the DE community was "very clear" about it's desire for a DH profession, myself having been an active reader if not participant of this board for the last 6+months, can only recall relatively low and fleeting support for this concept among our community.

I then shortly came to realize that, from a developer standpoint, we have been quite insistent in our desire for a change of this nature. Apart from a vocal minority of purist crafters aided by insurgents to our boards from other crafting professions we have been quite united in our desire for combat droids. This was to be the big prize the big REWARD for having dealt with a miserably broken and maligned profession for so long. It is finally a way to gain respect from the general playerbase and a major step towards inducing droids as the major staple of this game that they should have always been.

Looking at the options for creating this combat droid filled future we see that either they be added to the existing DE profession and be sellable to all, a proposition that is totally unrealistic due to the obvious problem of having every character that than scrape together the cash being able to have a Level 50 War Droid in tow that can level everything in its path.

There is of course the vision of some form of certification system. I myself am thoroughly pleased and impressed by Drashk's recent plan for this which would be a near-perfect solution that would maintain the integrity of the DE profession and it's central role in the world of droidsand would allow droids to be the widespread replacement for creature-pets that they should be and allow the creation of large and powerful combat droids without destroying the intricate balance of the game AND maintain relativity among the crafting professions.

However perfect this system may be, I am very skeptical of the developer's ABILITY to create and implement something of this nature. In a game where hostile NPC's have lost the ability to attack players while inside any kind of structure/natural interior, a game in which the development team is incapable of providing something as simple as consistently active harvester graphics, a game in which the developer's have stated their extreme reluctance and the massive intrinsic difficulty of implementing ANYTHING that spreads across a wide array of proffessions and game systems does any one honestly believe that the development team is willing or capable of creating a cross-profession certification system of this magnitude?

I know that I don't, although I would love to be proven wrong. But alas,I don't believe that the developers have any faith in their abilities to create this kind of a system either. So, by pushing for combat droids as a key feature of this GAME as well as our proffession, we have essentially told the developers that we do wish for some kind of DH profession to enter the game as it remains the only viable choice in their eyesthat allows for the creation of the large-scale combat droid game system that I believe we all envision.

I imagine that when TH wakes up tomorrow morning he will have to respond to the massive outcry against this idea, but I can imagine a reply filled either with an explination of why this is the only viable option or a reaction of frustration and confusion with the DE community. I fear that this will then lead to a disentigration of our community as the united force for change that we have been over these past months as we divide into harshly polarized sub-groups once it becomes apparent that we will be force to choose between the disintegration of our profession as the central focus of droids with the creation of a DH class or settle with the massively disillusioning concept of never truly having a large-scale combat droid system in this game.

I do imagine that it will be quite a grand melt-down to watch as people from almost all of the myriad professions will have something to say about this. I personally voted "No" on the poll because I believe that a DH profession would leave all of the core issues facing DE today out in the cold, made totally obsolete by the vast decrease of people in the DE profession and a total refocus on combat droids. I fear that if DH goes through, the grand list of bugs that we have compiled will never see the shining light of a programmer's gaze.

How will DH destroy DE?

Heres how - The moment theDH comes into effect every single person will look at what droids that provides them. . Once people see they can get an uber droid for just a few skill points in DH,EVERY SINGLE OTHER DROID WILL NEVER BE BOUGHT AGAIN.

im willing to bet all droids available now will be usable by all still and only the combat droids will be available to DH.

The Droid Engineer market will be destroyed (or remain exaclty as it is right now, just BH droids and probots).

Help me understand why DH will ruin DE, I see a lot of people strongly opposed to it but dont see much reasoning behind it. You can still make all the same droids you make now for all of the non DH's so you will still have the same amount of sales as before only with the DH treeyou will have new combat droidsto make for the DHers. How does that make DE worse?

I signed onto this profession to make and use droids.

"The veteran DEs have discussed this issue to death. We all seem to want to make droids that ALL players can use. Not just Droid Handlers, not just DEs.............everyone." TheRealTK421

I don't want to piss on your parade or anything but there are more opinions to take into account than those of the "veteran DEs". The rest of the DEs would be a start. And then you have everyone else in the game to consider. We all pay the same subscriptions as the "veteran DEs" after all.

SOE have to consider many things other than what the "veteran DEs" want, who are a strikingly small minority of the entire SWG population.

In the end, they'll do whatever it takes to keep as many players as possible playing and paying. And to do that, they'll try and keep as many of us as possible happy. That's just good business.

SOE couldn't give a monkey's bollocks about what the "veteran DEs" think and all the bawling and name-calling in here isn't going to make it any better. Neitherwill the threats of some to quit. They couldn't give a toss.

My vote is still no, but I will not drop DE because of the implement of DH. I think what will happen is the prices and the demand for non-combat droids will go way down, and the prices and demand for "Uber" Droids will climb up there. Sure I want to play around with the droids I make and if I can't Neather will you! Just kidding, But expect to pay through the nose for your lvl 20 droidinka.

I'm taking the nihlist approach from now on. We can **edit** and whine all we want in the forums and the game, we can pontificate and preach all we like, but the Devs have never listened to us and never will. They have their own plan for us, unfortunately it goes against what a majority of MDEs want.

I for one could give two squats about combat droids. Sure I'd like to see more, sure I'd like to have a big honkin combat buddy to protect me.

What I really want is more functional droids. I want droids to do what droids are SUPPOSED to do...assist players in menial tasks. I want smarter droids, droids that can maintain my harvesters, sell my goods, maintain my equipment, translate alien languages.

Hell, a bigger bone they could have thrown us instead of combat equipped treadwells, is being able to call more than one droid out at a time.

It will utterly ruin the profession, knocking it back to its beginings. After being completely ignored, I know that it's doubtful that I will keep up DE. I'm sure a lot will feel the same way. There goes all the knowledgable DEs and now you're left with new ones who make an adv surgical with a slang personality chip, repair module and storage. *sigh* Maybe I'll just finish up my factory runs and drop it all together.

That doesn't make any sense Ackis... Weaponsmiths make weapons, Marksmen use them. Unless the Droid Handlers can tame wild droids, you'll still have a lot of business, and if not, even more... The profession won't be ruined, it will turn into the most lucrative business available.

DE is the only Elite crafting profession there. You need master artisan for the class basically. All the other crafting classes only need eng 4 or dom 4... and guess what? They all can use the stuff they make. Yes, WS's can use the weapons they make. If a DH class is created, I demand to see a food eater class, clothing wearer class and armour wearing class. It's just so **edit**ing stupid.

Thinking about the implementation of a DH class it has more impacts than just **edit**ing up the DE class. It will destroy the CH class and hurt the BE class as well (who wants a creature when you can have a creature with a droid skin on it?).

Being a M DE myself.. the Idea of a Droid ahndler class is Pathetic.. it boils down to this. IF this does happen it will effect many of the other classes.. CH.. yeah how would you like to be able to tame a animal.. but not use it? Ohh you need to take the OTHER CH class to be able to use it. BE same thing, Armorsmiths.. you can make it BUT you cant use it.. do you have a skill? etc etc. Yes it might be cutting the hair but really folks.. this idea of a Handler class for de is just plane dumb.. proves that there really are Id10t problems in SOE think tank (hmm can tanks think?).

If this happens.. I am gone plane and simple and just find another game to play.. I have been holding on.. HOPEING that someday SW:G will become Star Wars.. and so far in my opinion it is not.. yes I know it is still in its infant stage but really.. alot of this should have/COULD have been done/thought of in beta (ohh wait i forgot this is beta for eq II, who needs droids in EQ II) heh
