I have to agree, TK;you think we should make another such attempt to come together to put forth a balanced, useful, and feasible proposal, and to have it shut down without a red name explaining why. Just a simple "No"; that they couldn't even deliver themselves. You've done a great job, TK, but it would have been nice for TH or someone to step up and let us know why, instead of hearing it second hand.

And as for the board's tone, I would expect it to spiral down further. That wonderful proposal has now changed into a prime example of an exercise in futility. They didn't even give you anything to tell us that could be interpreted as a sign that there is hope. A lot of people here are going to think (including me) that we have nothing really to look forward to for at least several months. Exploding mouse droids are not going to be a beacon in the darkness, and a power indicator isn't going to make droids fly off my vendor.

This really proves that the Devs have a complete lack of vision when it comes to DE. They still (after how many years in development?) have no clue what DE's should be and what droids should do...

They shoot down a perfectly balanced proposal (the numbers prove it was), and give us nothing. They're working on the whole combat balance thing, why couldn't this have been a part of that?

Honestly, I'm relieved to have cancelled, this game is nothing but waiting. Waiting for the next publish, waiting for the Space Expansion, wating for DE's to get better, waiting for the GCW to actually mean something....

I got sick of waiting...

And another thing...

TK, if DE is to get any better, the Devs need to focus the collective creative energies on the DE board. There are many bright, creative people here, but we're literally just shooting off in every direction, because we don't know which direction to go. It's the lack of any constructive communication from the devs that got us in this mess.

If and when the Devs decide what DE is/will be, only then can we come up with good, creative, plausible ideas.

As someone that is not a droid engineer but is still interested in the progression of droids i'd like to suggest a possiblity on 2 diff types of combat droid handler/commanders. Perhaps a 'Droid Slicing' skill along with a reprogram skill, what this would do is allow a DH/DC to take a droid in the wild and reprogram it for his own purpose. The corrisponding Droid profession would stictly rely on those programmed for him from a Droid Engineer and would also be allowed customized droids. The wild taming droid class could likely hold a higher level as to keep it desired as well however the customization option would not be there.

I'm sure this can be fleshed out more if i put more thought and time into it but i wanted to throw out this idea to you guys to think about.

I would much prefer TK to deliver the news rather than TH. If nothing else, I am quite certain that TK understands the issues and the reasons better than TH does, and is thus betterqualified to provide the explanation.

I'm going to stick this profession out, but the ironic thing is that once the space expansion hits, I am very likely to drop anything if I need to in order to have the ability to craft and fly spaceships. Any loyalty or passion for DE is very likely to go out the window for me at that time.

Why are you going to "have to"?

I ask in all seriousness....

Respectfully,

Notwithstanding everything else you said

The reason for dropping it is simple for me. I am currently the head of the Industrial Division in my PA, we have weaponsmiths, armoursmiths, Architects...etc etc actually all bar Chef.

All of the above are percieved to be useful in the PA, DE is not, it is..whats the word..suffered. All of the PA have had a chance to use the Pub7 droids, and none of them want them. Not even free.

Now, I have sales , plenty sales, but unlike the Jenden's of this world I don't judge my happiness on how many million credits I have, and yes I do have several. Thats not the point. My customers want what I cannot give them, in fact what I can give them is laughable to them. The standard craft/med/storage droids still sell, but the combat droids are a joke without the armour. If that came back it would be happy days, but the Devs think we are 'balanced' - so we know for sure they dont play the game. In fact we know for sure they love 'creatures' more than anything, just look at the work that went into making all those wild cratures and the animations - grat stuff I agree, but a definite bias.

So, back to why I'll drop it..it isnt satisfying, it doesnt compare with any other crafting profession in terms of 'need' to the community...in spite of your comments before, nobody actually 'needs us'. It's not enough to be a convenience. TH and his comment about 'not being able to augment any profession' was nearly the killer blow - I know you have to be nice to him but frankly..Hmm best left unsaid.

The unwarranted armour nerf was the slitting of the wrists, but even that was treatable.

The killer blow is the rejection for 'balance reasons' of Sodan's proposal. I dont believe them, it is balanced, and its fair, and it makes up for all we have lost in 9 months of suffering (dont let the register date fool you)

It is what players want to, in fact its hard to find a customer in game who has any problem with it...I have a special mail explaining it.

So, I cant make what my customers want, I'm a loose cannon in the PA, I dont contribute anything like I should be able to in an elite crafting profession (in credits to the PA terms, never mind useful items) and I get spammed all the time for things I cannot do.......If you want a full list I will go on.

It may be that Sodan's plan somehow breaks some golden rule - God knows how, but it provids answers to the above deficits.

There is a short form of your answer, I might write a longer one when I do actually hit that 'surrender skill button'....and you know what, I honestly believed I would never have to..that they would come through for us in the end, Shows you what use faith is ..eh? They are too young, too inexperienced, and too medieval - and its not guessing, I have my means to find out about people. The team is not up to the job TK, you only have to look around you to see it..dammit everything has something broken and QA is a joke. If they came with some logical explaination why Sodan's proposal is not balanced I would accept it, but for all we know they are basing it on one correspondant or another sending a PM to TH saying No..that would be enough in the warped word they live in.

Bitter - too bloody true...9 months is a long long time.

Best of British Luck to ya, you'll need it

Sadly I think it is my time to bow out now as well
While I haven't posted much on forums, I've been an avid reader and keep up to date with my professions and general news.

About a week and a half ago I started dropping DE as publish seven was out and established and the CONSTANT tells from people to make them battledroids such as those depicted in the splash screen were becoming infuriating.
I didn't enjoy the profession at all after approx 4 months doing it, I went on to master Fencer and had a good time killing things (had already master Pistoleer so was quite good)- I left eng IV and BluePrints IV and maxed XP in both droid and general crafting so i could regrind if publish eight turned out great. My hopes were kept alive by TKs constant hints that good things were afoot and that Sodans plan was being considered. Having read the announcements in this thread and the other one concerning Droid Names etc not only am I dropping DE completely but also giving serious thought to leaving the game, the neglect shown to 2/3 of the elite professions I've mastered defies my understanding (DE and pistoleer if you're wondering, Fencer is great )
The point that made me start to drop DE was when a random punter at a starport asked for a droid- any droid that would follow him around and 'look cool'. After 5 mins of explanation of droid capabilities and what i had to offer the next question- 'what's your coolest droid?'
/sigh
If I wanted to be a style consultant I'd do image designer, if i wanted to create unique products that players desire I do erm .. well not DE!
Looking at modules planned for pub 8 caused me to drop DE (ie not seeing anything involving slicing, surveying or remote maintenace/merchant) and unfortunatly the handling of DE and to a lesser extent Pistoleer may well cause me to drop SWG

PS I know DEs are feeling unloved with no red names appearing, but look at the combat classes forums- majority of red-name response was 'wait for the combat balance' - how useless are those words now?

/signing out

I really can't figure out the devs priorities sometimes.

What really kills me is that they're spending 2 whole publishes devoted to Jedi......giving them new abilities, quests, content.......even making new ways to get to Jedi.....all to keep thehardcore powergamers happy before WoW comes out.

I guess we know who the devs want to keep happy the most. Jedi players are crucial to keep satisfied as they represent hardcore, profit making players who play the most.....DEs not so much.

All this attention and time going to Jedi.....which were supposed to be super rare in this time period. Meanwhile reworking combat droids won't happen until next year or so, after the SE comes out.

Soon you'll be seeing more Jedi in this game than droids.

TK, do you not see the dozens of good-bye posts posted in the main forum, or those in this thread?

Do you not understand how some people feel beaten and abused?

Oh, wait, you're "elevated" as you say now - I guess you don't understand how the "little people" feel.

And you expect us to be happy with standing in line to get another slap in the face, to say, "Thank you sir, may I have another?"

Shian, although you are right, we all know that the only way TK would actually stand up for the community in this matter would be if they tore his cold, dead hands from the title. This was his goal all along to be a correspondent (anyone that has ever read any of his posts knows this), and as we all saw it changed his "tune" literally overnight - we lost any hope of the correspondent people thought they nominated.

It is clear it does not matter to him that so many people see such a huge problem and are quitting, and he seems just fine with that - hoping in vain that possibly some day they will come back.

TK is the only one that could tell the Devs how truly bleak the situation is - it's a shame he is blinded by his title and will not step up to the plate.

I have to admit I am somehow suprised. And mostly because I thought that it would fly because I surrendered DE. You know how you wash your car and then it rains?

Okay, I am a retired DE now (thank the maker), but I think I should pipe up here for a second. I think the number one focus now should be getting droids into the Space Expansion like they should be. That means that you get them into ship repair, ship upgrades, ship building, ship navigation, ship weapons systems, ship whatever everything.

Because let me just say that if they handle the space expansion like they did the release of SWG, droids won't play a part, they won't play a role, they will be a shadow of what they should be. There are already many talks about the space expansion, and even the Politician board is managing to carve little bites into the shares of the goodies.

They are already pushing droid development beyond the space expansion, and are we just going to add a ton more lines to our list of complaints and frustrations when after the Space Expansion comes out nobody thought to include the Droids? Forget any kind of combat droid on the ground and start working to something in the future that nobody can deny.

Help us Space Expansion (and TK and the remainder of the DE community). You're our only hope.

TK, JustG needs to in here and explain the situation himself. No offense to you, but the Devs need to talk to us.

I still find it funny after all this time that you get my motivations all wrong... I could care less about credits, I've got more than enough to buy whatever I need and give quite a bit of it away to friends. What I judge my happiness on is how much I see people enjoying my droids, and quite frankly the majority of responses I've got after publish 7 have been positive. A good 60-70% of the time I get an email or /tell from the person about a week after they've gotten the droid saying its working out great and just what they needed/wanted. That is why I enjoy DE.
