Thread: What would you do to improve our profession?

Very briefly, as most of this is what I and others have already said (adding my own .02 to the thread):


1. Make the existing droid hardware worth using. Specifically:

a. Make ISD report stats on resources. I also think that the use of a survey device per ISD run should STAY (gives low level artisans something they can sell).

b. Make Struc. Maint. Mod. able to add power.

c. Make combat & armor good enough to be useful to an elite combat profession. Perhaps a lootable combat module schematic with high/rare resource requirements affordable only by elite players?

d. Raise the character limit on the merchant barker & make it so that it can /yell. I'd still keep the Advertising IV requirement however (envisioning 800 barking droids packed into coronet starport..../shudder).

e. Improve the stimpack dispenser. Perhaps make it so that itcan be loaded by anyone, orcan administer automatically (without having to click on the droid),or can hold stims better than As (or some balanced combination of the three).

f. Improve the entertainer modules by allowing them to give a BF/Mind Heal bonus to their owner, akin to the Medical Module (Mind-Buff-Bot anyone?).


2. Fix all the existing bugs.


3. Add inherent functionality toa few moreof the chassis.


4. Make it so that modules have a decay/repair system (rather than the whole droid). When the modules break down, they must be replaced. This could also be an avenue for experimentation on modules.

I really like the interchangeable module system thats like the astromech datapad or a spaceship. Where you buy a chassis, and you can upgrade it with modules that you buy seperatly. These modules should both decay, and/orbe distroyed upon removal. Idont think the droid itself should break.


Moregame interaction, dropedor quest schematics, components.And alot of new general use schematics, models, modules. There should be a buttload of modules, say 50 or so different distinct functions, for staters.


More expendible items to ensure repeat business.


We should also have more of a critical role in the involvment of other classes. Now we just sort of peddle non essential toys, they have nice funtions but are implemented in a manner in which they appear intentionaly gimped. They take a good idea such as the structure mantenance, merchant barker and stimpack launcher and beat it withthe crappystick until their only marginaly usefull to a minority of players. If we really want to play a signifigant role in this game we ought to be able to render services to all manner of indeviduals at alllevels of the game.

We're subjected to a double standard, the devs havetold us that we cannothave something that another profession needs in order to perform. But we ourselves are mortaly dependant on master artisan partsand neary as much onarmorsmith, and architect components.

We do believe it or not, architecht needs our droid storage compartments, 3P0 Chassis (shuttleports) and, uh, thats it!

My suggestions:

1) A Droid Decay system
2) Re-deed droids, just like starships (introduce this with the decay system)
3) Give droids innate abilities like the bomb MSE (healing bonus for surgical chassis, storage for BLL, etc.)
4) Give more droid chassis' six module capability (maybe not the MSE, but certainly the BLL)

I don't think these are unreasonable requests, and don't create an imbalance that I can see.

o ya and what about like some say special items for DE's Secret SChematics....Some kind of a Pimp tissue that boost the combat rating...or some kind of something that would make a person come to me and say i have some special parts...i cant a droid that can blast away some Rebel for 300 dmg per hit

Alot of really good ideas here... sadly SOE will ignore 90% of them and "reward" us with something useless... but hey, never hurts to bash your head against the wall one more time


Droid / Module decay - Nothing lasts forever... This one thing would do alot to improve the sustainability of the DE proffession.


Refitting - Make modules swappable (by a DE), much as I like selling a completely new droid just 'cause someone wants to switch proffessions, I'd be just as happy swapping the modules on their old droid (they may have a sentimental attachment )... plus the added bonus of not feeling like I wasted a bunch of resources when the old droid gets trashed.


Experimentation - *sigh* if you're gonna waste the code lines to give it experimentation boxes... at least make them count for something.... This would add to the 'variety' of droids out there and could even be used to add 'special perks' for particularly good numbers. This would also apply to FC's/Data modules (would you want the components of the plane you were flying in made of substandard/garbage materials).


Model bonuses - It's already done with the MSE / Detonator mods. Make other chassis have specific bonuses, why buy a Surgical model when you can get a fully loaded R2 with even more goodies and no difference in usage qualities.


Naming *pet peeve now* - With JTL I can pull up a radial, type a few letter and boom! my ship has a name... for a droid I get to'dance a jig', spin around a dozen times, walk on my hands a few feet, backflip 4 times, cross my fingers and I 'might' get it done (or coach a customer through it)... okay fine I exagerated, but still... provided it's a none humanoid model and I'm not using numbers.


Those are my personal top list items, but naturally I'd like to see other improvements (many listed here that I never even thought about).

Droid Decay please,



You shouldn't be able to store a 'killed' droid and then call itthe next day totally undamaged.


Droids are mechanical,they should wear out and break down over time usage.





A droid isn't for life, its just for christmas.

oh, forgot, being able to call more than one driod at a time --perhaps 2 or 3 ? (perhaps limit this to Master Droid Engineers?)


...and also being able to craft Droiddekas and suchlike.

We need a market, pretty much the only recurring market I cater to is BH droids even since JTL came out


Personally the 2 most obvious ways to create a market are:


Decay or More Use


Non-DEs would probably prefer 'more use' over 'decay', however I think the datapad limit of 5 droids will limit how many more 'more use' droids people have got space for (so unless the 'more use' is an absolute 'must have' DEs would probably see more millage in a decay system.....)

Here is a couple of my ideas or ideas i put a bit of personal spin to it.


1. Redeedable Droids: I think this would be a great asset for all us DE's. I currently got a full 5 droids in my datapad that i dont want to destroy, but i would like to experiment a bit on a few modules and I need another open slot.


2. Autopilot Droids: All multi passenger ship captians wish that their autopilot worked when they get up from the pilots seat. I think that we should be able to make amodulethat allowed any humanoid or R series droid able to control ship to various WP in space.The module will have a opptional chip in it to do a few different things:


  • No Chip = straight line flights to different wp.
  • Pilot Chip = straight line flights to different wp with object collision avoidance.
  • Adv. Pilot Chip = straight line flights to different wp with object collision avoidance and defensive flight when attacked.
  • Military Pilot Chip = searches area X x Y x Z big for targets and trys to follow so pilot can attack in gun turrets, should be loot drop item.

3. AutoRepair Stations: This peice of furniture is placeable within a Multi passager ship, and can be loaded with a number of repair kits. When said ship takes damage the droid springs to life to repair any and all damage till it runs out of repair kits or ship is destroyed. This was on Queen Amidala's ship on the first movie, when the droids sprang to life to repair the ships shield system.


4. Droid Programs: With the new Unprogramed droid command modules DE's could get commands that they can program routines into a droid with a data module, some examples are:



  • Combat = droid attacks owners target and guards him when no target is selected.
  • Scout = droid uses sensors to help locate specific creatures and gives general direction.
  • Medic = in combat situations the droid could keep a eye on all in group, anybody in group that gos below XX% HAM gets a health boost. This could be only be used by a medic, makes another pair of eyes on the battle field tending the troops.

5. Core Sampler: This could either a droidmoduleor a Architectcreated item that when used digs up a 1 unit sample of all resourses in given spot. whatever core sampler system is usedit cannot sample the same area more than oncetill server restart, and must move from area at least 500 mto be able to be used again.


Please comment and add more ideas to this.
