Thread: Please explain to me how Droid Handler is a bad thing.
Now Eric....you just said you want to be able to craft and use the droids you make....so how are you going to use a droid that only say...a Pistoleer can use if he has the Cert for it? Your whole statement made no sense.
I see no problem with Uber Combats Droids being made for a DH Profession. We still get the rest of the droids that still sell.

Yes but if you do that you're really cutting off the potential of combat droids. Sure you could have a limit of lvl 20 combat droids, but then that makes combat droids practically useless. Have you ever seen how fast a level 20 creature goes down in battle at the end game? Have you ever fought a droideka before? Well unless you're planning on gimping those you won't ever see those as combat droids.
If you want to craft AND control droids then you should have to spend 150ish points like everyone else (including basic classes). However if you want to craft and have some basic combat ability, shouldn't the level 10 combat droids (the ones everyone else can use) do it for you?
Yes I have fought droidekas before, and they arent that hard (even the ones with the 11k HAM and high resists, you can see the droid cave on Lokfrom my front porch!) If droids get as strong as MCH pets, what will be the point of CH then? Why should CH even exist? Should there be carbon copy of classes in this game? Will the CH's be happy when their rancor slowly waltzes over to me, and my "uber" DH droid kills the CH at a nice long range, and then goes to work on the slow rancor?
You non-DEs really should go read posts from the past 2 months, because all this "WHY SHOULD YOU GET TO CONTROL THE DROIDS" has been argued before.
Droids as supposed to be available to everyone, children and the old and feeble should be able to control them. A certification system just allows for some stronger combat droids without reinstating the pre-nerf probot situation again. I don't want CH's to be pissed off at us for invalidating their profession, and BE's for cutting into their markets.
the proposed simple cert system that has been posted hundreds of time on the DE board (not that you've ever cared to check, since you and so many posts here now are fair-weather droid enthusiasts) is that
probots for everyone
a stronger droid at a novice elite profession
an even stronger one at master elite profession
When we talk about certs, we do not say "Pistoleer only gets IG-88's" and "Squad leaders only get droidekas"
A general, simple certification system. Probots are good for tanking someone up to a novice elite combat profession, the drodi for novice elite profession (if the person is going a combat route) would be strong enough to help tank to master, and the master level droid would help them do their master level missions. HELP, NOT TO DO FOR THEM.

You do realize that with the exception of kimogilas, the strongest CH pets have close to 10k ham? Do you know what I could solo in this game with a lvl 50 pet? Pretty much everything. Droidekas would have range meaning they could kite somewhat. That's an awesome pet. Do you want to contol Droidekas? I know someone will.
Now you ask if DH gets pets as strong as CH, why should CH exist? Well last time I checked there was a pistoleer profession, a carbineer profession and rifleman profession which all do essentially the same thing with slight variances. Shoot guns. DH will add VARIANCE to the pet classes. Some people will prefer CHs while other will prefer DHs.
If a crafting profession really wants a combat pet, they should be satisfied with the lvl 10 pet everyone else gets.
Again, I'll go back to my argument that it's a bad thing simply because it takes dev time away from the other broken classes. It's simply not fair that the devs take time to code a profession to use the few (1 or 2 maybe) higher level combat droids, while so many other classes are far from working as intended (can we say Chef or Smuggler?).
And as for the Weaponsmith/DE balance thing, a DE needs to be a master artisan in order to function. A weaponsmith does not. DE has such a heavy reliance on MA parts that it's almost utterly impossible to function as a DE without MA. So that gives a weaponsmith 48 more skill points to pick up rifleman and use the most powerful weapon, the T-21...

I'd sooner have this class slightly broken then have this cert system which essentially gives every elite master powerful pets, throwing off the balance of the entire game.
Also, I know that master artisans are rare, however you are NOT required to master the profession. Did you know you can buy schematics and put them in a factory even though you are not in the class? I have a doctor friend with no chef skills at all who uses a chef schematic to make us all tons of pate for PvP.

Resists.
And you really should read pasts posts here about "pure crafter vs combat" What is CH and BE doing in the scout class? BE are like artisans and CH are combat oriented. What is merchant doing in the artisan class? They dont craft anything.
And

That's bunkus. I get a level 50 droideka if I'm a master gunfighter, master sharpshooter, master carbiner? That would completely destroy the CH profession. Not to mention completely imbalance the game.
We are not talking about getting the same droidekas you see in the game on Lok, a much lower version than that. And the pet rules would still apply, so you wouldnt be able to pull out 3 droidekas.
We are NOT talking about "uber" pets, we never have, except for all you newcomers today who think that's what DE's want.

Scouts are a quasi combat class because nearly every combat character gets scouting skills. All elite scouting professions have in-the field combat implications. Artisan classes have no use in the field, they are much better situated in the city. In case you haven't check CH lately, a lot of our resists got nerfed. Most droidekas have excellent resists. BE also has to learn the basic medic profession. Why not make DEs so they have to master a line of marksman, like ranged support? Because then you'd have to worry about all the current DEs. Would they lose the class? Get free experience? A free line?
Merchants are in the artisan profession because they couldn't fit well under any other basic profession. Rather have them under the marksman tree? How about the medic?
Like I said before there is a lot of potential with DHs being a rather excellent pet class. If you don't want uber pets then why are you disatisfied with the lvl 10 pets everyone else gets? And why gimp droidekas when you could make them rare, powerful and effective, yet balanced against the skill points used to obtain them?

I did know you can buy schematics, but do you realize just how many EGPs and EMMs you need? ONE Advanced Droid Brain takes 4 (yes, four) of each, identical, crated EGPs and EMMs. That's just one advance brain. You get into BH droids and Level 6 modules, you're talking about Thousands of master artisan parts ina week. We're not talking piddly little amounts, like food for PvP. And I don't know of a single master artisan willing to sell schematics like that, they'd rather sell the parts and make more money...
That's what factories are for. If DEs get a customer base of DHs, there will be a demand. And if people can make money off of DEs by selling them parts, they will do it. I don't doubt that its more convenient to get MA because who wants to become a MA when the only parts you get from it don't sell?

Do scouts fight? Do they get any kind of a combat bonus? Terrain negotiation and camps are usefull to everyone. Is combat medic also a scout profession because they get terrrain negotiation? Are they even strictly a medic profession when they can do so much damage?
There was a good combat droid, the pre-nerf probot, only too many newbies got them and so they had to be nerfed, and with that was taken away the biggest market and use DE's have. Now all we make are medical modules and BH droids. Droids are supposed to be available to everyone, and this cert system is onlya way of getting back some of our usefullness and markets, and avoiding the pre-nerf probot situation.

Yes scouts get bonuses against creatures for damage. They also get traps, which are essentially debuffs. I know, I'm a master scout.
I don't mind everyone having level 10 pets. At the end game level 10 pets are useless. What bothers me is giving people certs for stronger pets and then the devs having to spend another five months shifting the balance of the game because the players are too powerful. You will still be making money of a DHs, and unless I miss my mark, its going to be as popular if not more than CHs. You keep comparing to how DEs is now to how they could be in the future.
We want to make droids EVERYONE CAN USE. They DO NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE UBER. Droids are programmed and will not bite a person's arm off if they anger them. Know why? Beacuse they CAN'T BECOME TRUELY ANGRY andTHEY MUST FOLLOW THE COMMANDS OF THIER MASTERS. Anyone can use any droid that they own, NO EXTRA SKILLS REQUIRED. Not only that but as the Droid Engineers WE PROGRAM THE THINGS! WE KNOW EVERY LAST COMMAND THEY CAN PREFORM AND THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF OUR CREATIONS! People keep bringing up the weapon/weaponsmith scenario but here's the thing, you gotta learn to steady your hand with a weapon, you gotta learn to comphensate for recoil and such. DROIDS DON'T NEED ANYTHING OF THE LIKE. Droids do exactally as thier masters say to the best of thier abilities BEACUSE THEY WERE MADE FOR IT.
