Thread: Request to DEs who don't want to use our high end combat droids.

OOo ok why I want a MDE droid only. I want to feel special. It would be like a badge of accomplishment to be one of the few people walking around with a droideka, no matter how good or crappy they are. ( now i walk around with a binary load lifter /cry) As long as the othercombat droids (keyword: DROIDS-plural)are added I suggested with the certs, I don't see how one (keyword: ONE)MDE only droid will really hurt sales (other than the option to sell yet one more thing) Too many droids will make more un-used droid types, and we dont need more usless droids.

I feel some awe at seeing the kick ass master elite combat classes walking around. I never feel that for MDE, or any other master elite artisan class. Why we should get this over other classes is because of our product. I dont see why a master of such machines can have one special one for himself, something that is unique.

Thanks for the clarification, was about to wondering what the hell you were talking about. I agree with everything you say there but I still don't see where the ability to craft DE only droids fits into that. I don't know, maybe its just some personal desire that some have and some don't, but if thats it there are a lot of desires that a lot of people have that will never be fulfilled. There are countless things I'd like to see done with droids but I know never will be because it would not be good for the game in general or its just not feasible. I think you need some kind of reasoning behind it to make it possible.

I, and others would like the option of taking DEs into the field more and being able to bring more to a group, especially since the devs have shown the story lines will center around combat.

So explain to me again why your 158 spare skill points can't be devoted to combat classes that make you a valuable group member able to participate in the story lines...

There is just no logic to your argument. There are 2 types three types of classes in game: (1) Artisans (us); (2) Combat; (3) Utility (medics, entertainers)

There are 6 major crafting classes, none of which have any combat skills. Now you are saying that you want us, as artisans, to get to rise above all of those other artisan classes and get specialized combat skills in addition to our crafting skills?

For what reason? Why is this needed?

Lets get to the bottom of this...list your classes. Lets see why you are so "disenfranchased."

By the way...even without DE-only combat droids, your arguments about combat power fail. Why? Because it is obvious that the devs are going to let us handle more than one droid at once. If you have one group member with a droideka (usuable by everyone), and another group member DE with 2 droidekas, isn't the DE a little more valuable to the group?

1) One, If I build it I can operate it better than anyone else...at the top end of the spectrum others can't operate it at all.

2) As stated before, if anyone is able to use top end combat droids then they will be balanced to account for high weapon skills which 90% of DEs don't have, so the droids will be FAR FAR weaker. Most likely to the point of being virtually useless to non-elite combat classes.

This makes me laugh...

(1) Droids operate themselves genius. They have AI and personality chips (that don't work, but you would much rather have uberness). There is no remote control. You tell it to do something, it does it. There is NO OPERATION.

(2) NO artisan class has combat skills...why are we special? And the only reason we are useless to the elite combat classes is that we have nothing worthwhile to sell them.

/sarcasm-on

"I know, lets fix the fact that we have nothing to sell the elite combat classes by MAKING ourselves an elite combat class and totally ditching our crafting purpose."

/sarasm-off

The reason we are worthless is because you are fighting against progress with these stupid illogical requests for uberness.

We need products to sell, not uberness.

Lets see if I can hit both your replies here. Droid_creator, that doesn't really stand to reason. Just because you know how to build something, doesn't mean your any better than someone else at using it, especially when you are talking about a sentient near-perfect AI that requires little or no user-knowledge. Eric, I find that my title as master DE and the respect of my customers gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. Every time I walk through a populated area I get people complimenting me on getting to master DE (not just right after I got it either) and even when I'm just sitting in my PA hall working on something I get tells from customers thanking me for the droids and telling me how great it is or how much they're loving it. You may run a different kind of business then me but that doesn't mean you should get something special for it. Last time I checked no one else got anything special (note thats special, not normal class stuff) for mastering a profession. As far as having something something special and unique for yourself, then don't sell them to anyone, but don't try to stop anyone else from selling them. I think the tables and arguments have shifted slightly, where many were arguing why should you not be able to have combat droids just because we don't want to, why shouldn't we be able to sell our combat droids just because you don't want to?

You are trying to turn this into an argument, I'm not going to oblige you. I have said that the two sides are diametrically opposed, I have chosen my side, I support my choice. I don't believe either side is inherently wrong in their position, we both want what is best for DEs in general and for ourselves specifically, we just don't agree on what it is. You on the other hand have decided I am wrong and must be shown the error ways....

anyway, I don't want to pick up a weapon or melee skill, I want to use what I create. I think this idea scares you as you are a dabbler, and don't like the idea you may not get the most powerful droid if you are only a dabbler.

btw...show me where it says a CH is a combat class ?

For the record...

Master Droid Engineer (required obviously)

Master Artisan (required no matter what the DE prerequisites say)

Master Merchant (If all I can do is sell mobile crafting stations and medical droids, may as well be efficient)

Novice Architect (Power cores are expensive if you buy them)

Of course now you will scream "you have no combat skills, why should you get teh uber droidz??!!1"

Again I'll point out, I'm not trying to be uber, I'm trying to be slightly competitive, As I stated earlier, the top end MDE only droid would still be weaker than a master combat profession.

I have to dissagree here. I have neither novice scout nor master artisan and I would consider myself extremely successful. I buy all of my parts and take my dear sweet time getting up hills. These things are by no means requirements, they are luxuries, things you want to make your life easier. making your life easier does come at a cost.

It should be remembered that anyone serious about being a DE needs to have master artisan too.

Not true. I was a wheeler and dealer. Shops suck because no one want's to run to them, and you have to pass out waypoints after meeting people anyway. I just sold face to face.

IMHO, any DE who is serious delivers.

And exploration 1-3 (at least) is almost a requirement for everyone in this game.

Also not true. If you run diagonally up any hill, you run just as fast, if not faster, than people with exploration 1-2 running straight up the hill. I ditched exploration a LONG time ago because I needed the skill points. I get along just fine.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(1) We are ENGINEERS for heaven's sake!!! When was the last time you saw an engineer in a camo labcoat beating the hell out of someone?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

why does everyone insist on comparing a game to reality if i wanted reality i would shut of my computer and go outside... sure i done see an engineer beating the hell out of someone. but i also dont see lightsaber wielding jedi running around my neighborhood either... nor a rancor... or at least the last time i checked

IMHO, any DE who is serious delivers. I see master artisan required not for any kind of shops ( I hate shops too ) but for the parts you get that so many droids take, the control units, electronics memory mod, GP module, micro sensor suite. It takes a lot of those just to make one probot.

I'll ask this politely.

Please stop acting as though you represent all DEs, its simply not true. The split seems about 50/50 yet some act as though none of us want to be a kind of CH with droids.

I can respect you have a differing opinion on the matter, but please when the subject comes up, don't presume to speak for all of us.

Thanks

50/50 ? Where this come from ? 50/50 of all DEs or 50/50 of master DEs ?

I dont even see why there should be a debate on this topic. DE is part of the artisan tree. 100% crafting. period.

Give DEs some combat stuff only them can use and you'll see other crafting professions yelling for nerf or for getting some specific combat stuff too. Also you'll see lotta players dabbling into DE just to get these combat stuff. The CH fiasco is enough, this game doesnt need another one.

Now this doesnt mean that there shouldnt be good combat droids, like there are good weapons. It's just up to the devs to find a good and balanced cert system for these.

This discussion is a waste of "playing" time, some think they can drown out others so their voice will be heard as the Sole voice of DEs, sorry two or more points of view on DEs and Combat droids. Some of you obviously miss debate class or have yet to sign up for it.
