Thread: droid storage beating the imp crackdown?

I tink now that droids have some use and function, it should of course be labeled an exploit. Solution? Lets get rid of droid item storage.
Maybe the middle ground is to make it harder to detect contraband in droids, but not impossible. Smugglers should still have a better chance of evading the scans. I don't even know if this is technically doable.. but if so it might satisfy both sides.

I'm not sure how DECREASING droid functionality is a middle ground given how little functionality they have. Jesus Christ, people. This is beginning to sound like griefing -- standing over an incapped player and gloating.
Smugglers can also use item storage droids. Ergo, they can smuggle goods in their inventory AND in the droid inventory. W.T.F. is the problem?
Hiring a smuggler just to move around seems a bit much, don't you all think? Hiring a smuggler to move a large shipment of illegal goods is fine, but basic day to day operation seems a little more fitting for droid assistance. But, I dunno, I am in the star wars camp on this one so I could be off. This is SWG.
I don't remember Han Solo helping out noobs with their personal blaster pistols. "Follow me kid, I'll help you get that sliced Republic Blaster passed the imperials". And even Han used item storage aboard the millenium falcon. Of course they busted his @ss, but then again they knew he was a smuggler. So come to think of it -- while we're making bullcrap arguments --maybe item storage droids used by a known smuggler should have a chance of being scanned. Everyone else is an innocent.
Smugglers can use droids too. End of story.

This is why only Smugglers should have had any ability whatsoever to dodge a scan and why there need to be universal penalties for getting caught - including Imperials. The Devs droppe dthe ball by giving Imperial immunity to contraband scans, because once you open the door, even if its just a crack, everybody will use that little bit of space to push it further and further open. Novice Smugglers get a 15% chance to dodge scans. If anybody other than a Smuggler gets a better chance than that, then those invested skillpoints and the unique identity of the profession have been compromised.

Decreasing droid functionality? Now unless I'm really misinformed I didn't see the 'scan evasion module' in the patch notes anywere. No one is trying to remove storage modules. I'd be very upset if they got removed because I rely heavily upon them due to all my tools, armor, and multiple weapons. The problem is if these are realy scan free which I'm not sure then anyone can smuggle them in a droid when evasion ability was given to smugglers.

Asking for DE nerfs before DE fixes is insulting. We finally get something droids can do and people start bitching.
The question, unfortunately, is whether or not they were meant to do it. In the interest of trying to keep constructive, what would you suggest the role of the smuggler is if everyone can smuggle items, by using droids, without having any smuggling ability at all?
I'm also saddened by what it would mean for us DEs if this droid "ability" was revoked, which is why I'm trying to suggest a middle ground instead of getting the ground yanked out from under us altogether...

If Smugglers aren't the only characters that can smuggle, then something is broken with the skillpoint system.
The end of the story comes with skillpoints and profession identity- you investskillpoints and you do what your profession says. Smugglers can't build droids, that's for Droid Engineers. Likewise, Droid Engineers (or anyone else) shouldn't smuggle, that's for Smugglers.
Why call a profession a Smuggler if anyone can just stow their gear in adroid and smuggle it? What justifies taking away a profession's identity?
This isn't an attack on Droid Engineers, it's trying to hold onto the Smuggler's burgeoning smuggling skills before everybody feels entitled to snatch them away.

no it's not, IF only smugglers could use droids than it would be no problem. But because everyone can than this is a problem.
Make droids scannable, assuming they are not allready, and that would be the end as it would remove the bug.
The description of storage moduals is not that they are useful in avoiding scans...they are for storage.
To put it in diffrent terms: If when i sliced a spice i got a droid, why should that be a problem, DE's can still make droids....it would be a bug, it would be wrong, and it would be fixed.
This is not an attack on DE's man, this is a bug, and it does alot more than let everyone avoid decay on items not used in a fight, it gives folks a profession ability for free, smugglers' abilites. It is a bypass of an ingame system, thats an exploit.
It removes the reason for all the code the devs just laid in this patch.
IF, i say again IF, they do indeed avoid scans...maybe we should all find that out first. We are working with assumptions here. No sense in everyone getting upset about this if we are not even sure it's true yet.

Items stored in droids also avoided the death decay penalty.
Seriously, it makes sense for items stored in droids to be able to avoid these scans, both from a "realism" point of view and more importantly from a programming point of view.
Programming: items stored in droids are not in your inventory, and therefore cannot be "seen" by anything that is checking your inventory. While they could probably program around this problem, it could very easily be more difficult to program around than it sounds. I've seen equally "easy" things be nigh impossible in my own programming experience.
Realism: Droids in your data pad are not present at the time of the scan. Your data pad only contains a control point or access point that you use to call your droid to you when you need it. Therefore, there is no way for the Imperial Patrol to scan your droid - they can only scan your inventory. Now if you actually had a droid with you at the time of the scan, then I would expect it to be scanned just like everyone else in the vicinity. But if the droid is not actually present there's absolutely no way that it is "realistic" for that droid to be scanned.
Sorry, I just don't see this as an actual"nerf" to Smugglers. I understand what you're saying conceptually, I just don't agree with you.
Wow Kollos does not cry exploit.
