Thread: droid storage beating the imp crackdown?
Well, as an earlier poster pointed out, with hotkeys and a few mse storage droids, the entire group could easilly get through a scan and have ready access to all of their gear. So, yes, if this exists it ends our reason for being.
Personally, I don't think that this crackdown will hurt the demand for our illicit goods and slicing services. People will risk a tef for a 35% sliced T21. However, we are Smugglers, not Pharmacologists or Engineers.. so if DEs steal our ability to smuggle, we lose the one thing we should really be able to do. Smuggle.
I want to disagree with you Rai, but like I said before, you do make a valid point. However, you are no worse off as a result of the Crackdown. You still have your slicing and spice sales with the additional services of helping people and items get through scans. Granted, if droids do hold items that are not scanned, your new service may be reduced, but it is still useful.
If items are safe in droids, DE's get a new sales opportunity, so we both win. Neither of us lose anything but both of us gain a new service.
Anyway, is this the case? Can anyone confirm if droids do avoid scans?

Well, I think the smuggler community would say that giving everyone a wayto place anything they want into a pocket dimension and avoid all imperial scans would pretty muchinvalidate our entire profession... which, by the way, is another important part of the "Star Wars" experience.
Think about it.
Well, there is no doubt in my mind once the developers understand that our droids do something useful, it will be nerfed. I stillremember the sting of the data storage modules that held missions getting the axe. On the other hand, remember Return of the Jedi, when R2-D2 smuggled that lightsaber for Luke? There is precedent after all that tells me it isn't just a by-product of a "pocket dimension". Think about that.

Aren't you a little bit over thetop, here?DE's stealing from you? Smugglers losing the ability to smuggle because someone stashed their spice in an R2 unit to bypass the scan? Please. Nobody comes to your boards and complains that since you slice weapons, youtake away everything fromweaponsmiths, do they?
Why don't you petition to have DE removed from the game just in case we produce a useful product sometime in the future.

I can understand why the DEs here hate my posts. I'm sorry for upsetting you, but I'm just trying to generate a discussion about this issue, and maybe even find a solution. I'll try to keep it civil.
There are too many responses here for me to answer individually, so let me try to answer them all at once
If droids always avoid the scans, then everyone gains the ability to smuggle. Period. While it's true that the smuggler profession has been borked since launch, we were very hopeful that this patch would be the beginning of our rise to prominence, and we would get to actually smuggle. In fact, this patch was partly designed to let us do so. If you read the patch notes it mentions Smugglers... not storage droids. Storage droids seem to eliminate the need for us. It would be akin to letting other professions make their own droids... sure, you could do it too... but why bother?
I have to agree with this. There is no way that the devs could have intended for the droids with storage to be able to get past the scans. It is just like the clusters in non-cluster slots - common sense should have told you that it was not intended to be able to make the "super mice", or that an an R4 should be able to have as many modules as an advanced R3.
I find it in poor taste for two professions that have been ignored by the devs toattack each other for personal gain.
Heh heh... well, here is one DE who agrees with you. However, this publish made this community very bitter, and many have just quit. I am not saying this justifies your getting flamed for what is a legitimate concern.
Ironically, there is currently an exploit that Bounty Hunters can use to avoid ever running ot of charges on a seeker droid after they get invesitgation 3. It is definitely an exploit - a red name acknowleged this - but it never, ever got fixed. DE's who posted on the BH forums got about the same treatment....
I wish nothing but the best for DEs. I want droidsto be more important than guns and armor.. I want droids wandering around player cities... I want droids everywhere! In fact, I just ordered 11 custom droids for my new shop! Butthis bug/exploit is not like the datastorage issue of old. This TAKES AWAY FROM ANOTHER CLASS, and is therefore damaging to the game.
As for my "reporting" of the exploit... I sent the devs a question about this, and pointed them to a post on Chilastraas reference. I do not want to get anyone's account banned. I just want people to realize that this is most likely an exploit, and that they should consider their actions. I would not go to a public forum and yell "Special on double sliced weapons!". That would be irresponsible. If its not an exploit, you have nothing to worry about.
I think that it is probably an exploit by definition - the use of a bug for personal advantage - but I don't think that anyone will be persicuted for it.
Now for a constructive idea/solution:
I think that droids could very well be useful in smuggling LEGITIMATELY by adding a "smuggling compartment" that acts as a skill mod to a smugglers "smuggling" ability. This would appease all the R2D2/Lightsaber people, and keep the game balanced.
I had the same idea a while back - it is in the thread that Draskt started to get a comprehensive list of possible module additions.
Please don't take this as a troll of flame. This game should be fun. Smugglers who dont get to smuggle isnt fun.
Aye. However, don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon - unless they just take item storage out of droids. That is the usual ham fisted approach the devs often take to anything DE....
excellent post Rai.
Anything else i say would just be repeating you. I love droids and think the devs are misplacing thierenergy. Droids should be more prevelent than Jedi, and deserve more attention.
But I do hope this is fixed since if they plan on ever putting in a more robust smuggling system. We keep getting told we make plenty of money spicing and slicing. What some fail to realize is we were named smugglers not jury-rigging/chemists. It would be like DE's who couldn't make droids but only components for some other profession. And yea there are alot of smugglers mostly due to the dirty fighting line and the old holo-grind brought a quick influx. Other than that us old die hards stick with it in the hopes we actually get to smuggle sometime.
Good luck De's, I hope they finally do something great for you so we can all have cool droids.

Well, you can drag items from your droid's compartment to the TOOLBAR. The item remains in the droid, and you can even put the droid away. When you press the appropriate F-Key, the item pops into your inventory. So, for example, you can keep your sliced weapon in your droid and have R2 launch it out to you when you need it to fight. If you have enough empty F-keys, R2 can launch your spices and armor out as well.
Dang, why didn't I think of that? I used to have my (sliced) armor in my inventory all the time, and they were on my toolbar for quick equipping... when I put them in my droid they disappear from my toolbar.
So, does this happen in reverse too? After you pull them out of your droid using F-keys, does the binding on the toolbar disappear?
