No, I'm not new. I just don't say something unless I think it's important. Am I a recognizable face? Probably not. I'm one of those types that works behind the scenes enabling others to get their jobs done easier and more effectively.

As we've seen countless times before, Droids incorporate practically every game system there is. With a change on the order of magnitude that the combat balance will bring (if what the dev's say is true) everyone will want their best people representing their community. Having worked with Drashk, TK, Jenden and several others on both publish 7 & 8...they all are very passionate about improving our profession to the fulllest. There is a reputation of the DE correspondant being a bit more outspoken than most correspondants. I would not expect anything less of the next one.

True. But timing is important also. And right now, the timing is rather poor and we don't want to waste a good DE Correspondent who can be much effective later....

Now is not the time. Now is the time for all of us to wait patiently.

Arden,
I don't think that you realize the time scale that game development works on. New game additions do not happen in a 1-2 week time frame. Nor do they happen in even a 2-4 week time frame. It takes a minimum of 4-6 weeks for additions to made to the game. If the content in question is something that would have a major impact on the game, we are looking at 6+ weeks.
Something else that needs to be pointed out is that even though no major game changing content is in store for Droid Engineers, that we are aware of, the Developers are always in need of Correspondent feedback. Being a Correspondent doesn't limit your feedback to only Droid related content. The DEVs need feedback on all aspects of how each change will effect each community. A change to one profession will have an effect on all professions.
The changes that are on deck with the Combat Balance/Revamp will directly and indirectly effect every single profession. Right now, while the ground work for the Combat Balance/Revamp is taking place, is just as important as when the code actually hits Test Center, maybe even more so. Having a strong voice for the DE community now, is just as important as having a strong voice months down the line.

Well, that's your opinion Drashk. Frankly I don't see how having a correspondent right now would be any better than not having one. Or how any DEV is gonna remember feedback given now down the road a year from now when Droid Engineering makes it back to the top of the queue. You can do the song and dance about having a strong voice, but I have to be shown the bottom line. And that bottom line is no DE changes other than the ones already coming in JTL. And even there, the DEV's are just plowing ahead with what they already planned to do. How long have we been saying that our markets will always be sickly without condition decay? Any sign that the DEV's have paid any attention? None that I can see.

Way I see it, now's a great time to let some of the less desirable correspondent canidates go bash themselves to death and get it out of their system. Maybe some of them will be a bit more seasoned after a few courses in the School of Hard Knocks. We need to save our best and brightest for later when the DEV's arent burried under something else that's tying them up 110%. And from what I've seen of their schedule, they are gonna be tied up for quite some time. At least a year would be my guess.

But you guys go right on and charge the wall if you want. I think your head will give before it does.

Arden, I respect your opinion, but I tend not to go into anything half-(donkey)ed.

We are bound to have problems with JTL, and personally, I'd rather have a good correspondent jabbing the Devs in the ribs, than have some lush that won't speak up for us.

Who knows, there may be some new DE's by the time (in your mind) we need a good correspondent, and any number of them might be more appealing at that time.

Again, I think we need to put the best person up, no matter what the timing, because we will have issues with most every patch. If nothing else, SOE has proven that they're not lax in giving us issues

The way I see it its an everything to gain and nothing to lose scenario. If we've got a great correspondent and they listen to them, we're in a prime position. If we've got a great correspondent and they don't listen to them, we haven't lost anything. If we've got no correspondent we're guaranteed to not go anywhere. Same idea as voting. Being a resident of Indiana I know no matter how I vote the state votes republican, but if I don't vote then I have no right to complain one way or the other.

With the current name given, I would vote for Jenden.

I would like to apply, but only to become a blue glowy .
So better not.

Yeah, Jenden would make a good correspondent and would get my vote. Question is, can Jenden take the job and wait out the time it takes for DE to get back to the top of the queue? And that might be a very long time. If he's not up the extended wait, then we've wasted one of our best correspondent canidates.

Guys, I'm not trying to stir up crap again. I know I've been pretty vicious in the past and I'd rather not get into that again. And I'm not saying the DEV's are unwilling to listen. I just can't see how they can possibly have the bandwidth right now to listen. At best, you'd get a handwave as an acknowlegement that they heard you say something. You have to look what's on the DEV's schedule and be realistic about expectations. Otherwise, your in for a very big disappointment.

I'm wondering why this is even going on... from the posting by Tiggs, it seems to me that they are taking applications, will review those applications, and then hand us their descision..... pretty much like any other job.

Not by a popularity contest.......

but then again, i wasn't here when TK was 'picked' so i'm in the dark here....

Most of the time (from my experience with the DE profession correspondents that is) they take both community support and applications into account about equally.
