Thread: To all the holocron DEs
I actually just now read the original post and all I can say is...
Sintrosi, you are an evil, evil person for posting this. I wonder how long it will take before someone catches on.....![]()
I am a Holocron DE.
I also posted a macro (that i never used mainly because of the lack of a draft schematic I was needing) in an attept to help fellow gamers.
I have actually grown quite fond of the profession... somehow... as broken and useless are we are at the moment.
If someone could sit behind the pc with a macro running, they could use crafting tooks on hotkeys and do it just as quick.
While it does get to you seeing the same post over and over, those people are paying customers also. I dont have any hard feeling about them wanting to get through DE as quick as they can.
I am a couple million credits lighter in the bank account andI have sold ZERO droids. But in spite of this I am still enjoying DE.
As much as I will hate to drop DE to continue the holocron craze I will. But I have every intention of picking it back up when its all said and done. I never thought I would enjoy a crafting profession.... untill I gave it a chance, a chance that using a marco would have taken away from me.
While I have agreed with your posts in the past, Sintrosi, I have to say that with this one your jackboots are showing.
Yes, there are a lot of "children" who can't seem to operate the search function of the board or are just too **edit** lazy to do so, but it isn't there fault that the game was set up the way it is. I don't see what mastering "X" professions has to do with becoming a Jedi (not a very immersive way of doing it), but this response to it is over the line.
I will admit to being a "Holocron DE". I dropped Merchant for this, so I've simply gone from one broken profession to another. You of all people should know that there is no way in hell to become a Master of this profession without grinding. Its so broken that no one wants to buy the items we make, because the items don't work.
I will admit that lately that has begun to change, but not fast enough. I colored a droid only to have its customization fade the first time I stored it. Talk about a kick in the jimmy.
I would think that instead, you would relish the fact that these Holocrons are forcing people into this profession, so that more than just those who love the profession learn of how truly screwed up it is. Until recently, we didn't even get +100 assembly and experimentation. How long had that been like that before it was fixed? Since the beginning? I would have flamed the boards non-stop until that was hotfixed if I were a DE back then.....
Yes, seeing endless posts on "How do I master DE fast?" can be annoying, but insulting people is not the way to fix that. Just ignore them and they will learn how to search the forums for the answers that are already there, and remember that at least one person who came into the profession via the Holocrons is staying because they are enjoying themselves, broken profession or no.
I must however defend some of us holocron DEs. I don't consider myself a "leet dewd", however I did power through DE on the holocron trail.
I know quite a few others on this path who are not the simpleminded dweebs that open a holocron and post immediately on the respective forum, but it is a fair statement for a large percentage. Also, we all had careers before the holocrons uprooted us that WE had chosen and were working on. Personally I was a commando/TKA and was taking my own sweet time doing what I enjoyed.
If anything though, I think the holocrons could only help the profession. I knew that it was a mess from friends of mine, but agreeing with it and witnessing it are two different things. The more people you have as DE's the larger the voice for you, regardless of their long term plans.
So, except for those who post stupidly, pardon our passage and blame SOE. Your real issue should be those who don't read before they post, not holocron DEs, and that is a problem on every forum everywhere.
PS. You may want to sticky this. If they did not search past page one for an answer, as soon as this excellent summary drops that far it will have been for naught.
*sigh*
I think all of the new Holocroners have to understand that we are what the Devs have made us... sick, twisted, masochistic, evil little things that have never seen any love so we can't find it in ourselves to show love to those that are better off than us (which is the epitome of anyone with holocrons).
With that stirring revelation said, I just have to add: I'll trade the ultimate crafting macro for a holocron on Ahazi =)
To me, the holocron hunt is unlocking a new phase of the game where I actually have something worthwhile to do once again. I was getting bored to tears having completed most every quest I came across. There is a lack of content in this game that drives up a wall in front of you after a while. Picking up my 5 holocrons was the start to a new beginning for my character and I. Mastering new professions is very entertaining to me, and the rewards come from the experiences I have on the way.
Last night I sold my first droid... an Arakeen Probe. Just a little bugger, but it was nice to see someone run off with my little red droid trailing behind them. Kinda made me feel nice. The same feeling happened when i used to be a weaponsmith. And the experience of the hunt that I attained while in the combat professions was very rewarding having travelled to every planet and extensively travelled each one on foot to find their mysteries.
Not all of us who are on the trail of a holocron are blithering idiots. I am what you might call a power gamer, and live to see the final result of my character in all his glory. I play varying hours ranging from 3 to even 6 hours a day. Its really sad to see everyone lump me in with a crowd that has some sort of ill repute for no reason at all. I dont know if its some sort of deep routed jealosy or vane attempt to hang on to a broken class, but you guys need to lay off of us. We are trying to play the game to the best of our abilities and play style. If we like to power through professions, so be it. THAT is the way we play this game, and that is the way we have the most fun. I play this way, and I cant justify sitting on one profession forever rotting away and not ever receiving another ounce of experience for my toils.
You guys can go ahead and flame me and all my holocron brethren all you want, but I have to tell you... Why not just try picking up other professions. It fills out your game a whole lot more, and it makes you appreciate what others go through to be masters of their professions. Before you go and tear us down for doing what we like, realize that we play differently than you, and dont want to be content with a single profession.
Salomon_Orange-
It isn't the holocron chasers per se... it is the people who post on these boards asking for a macro to get them to master DE in a day or less.
If you are actually making and selling droids, then the flames aren't directed at you. Rather, they are directed at the people who clutter up these boards, which are intended as a place where real DE's can talk about the state of the profession, offer constructive ideas, and talk to other DE's, with posts about how to whiz through the profession.
Go back and re-read Sintrosi's origonal post.
I make the most of a profession while i have it, so I am actually trying to sell droids. I just prefer to skip by all these worthless droids that I can sell worth beans. Once I can actually sell something worthwhile, I will be much happier. IE... Droids with crafting stations, or purpost other than to just sit there.
Ok guys, what you have understand is that many of us have spent well over 4 months in this profession.
During those 4 months we have worked VERY hard trying to give droids valued reasons to be sold. We've worked hard to build up a customer base to try and give ourselves security. We've tried to establish norms on prices to help each other out and to maximise our market for the good of all DE. We've put a LOT of work into this forum, trying to help the developers improve Droids and improve us. We have created our own little corner of the SWG galaxy, our own piece of turf.
Holocron Hunters get a message "become a master DE" and run in, not giving a **edit** about the profession, make rude and hurtful comments to existing Droid Engineers (I know not all of you do, but ENOUGH do) and then expect existing DE's to help them reach a target that we've worked long and hard on in a matter of seconds .. just so they can then drop it again. Worst of all, some of these people feel that during their brief stay in the Droid Engineer camp they should have say in the future of a class they have no intentions of remaining in.
So, this means we are naturaly aggressive towards you. You are breaching on our turf, whether you have good intentions or not.
Asking for help is one thing. Asking us to tell you how reach something we've spent many weeks achieveing ourselves in 5 seconds flat is like asking Neil Armstrong the quickest way to the moon so that you can smash any records he achieved, tell him his journey was a complete waste of time anyway, and then destroy the moon.
Although Sintrosi could have worded his post better, his reasons are valid for the "I want to reach DE yesterday so I can be jedi" posts being ignored or removed. This profession is in a state of transition and in order for that transition to be smooth and successful we need to keep this forum clutter free.
Now, there are MANY posts that have been made over the past 5 months concerning macro's and fast ways to grind through this profession. Instead of bugging the rest of the DE profession with your desire to max out DE and quit, we are asking that you remain silent and use the search feature. If you have something you feel would benefit the DE community, and the progression of the profession, then sure chime in with the rest ... but if you just want to hit MDE and leave then please do so with as little fuss as possible.
May the force be with you ![]()
Good greif.
Being the 'official' boards and everything, one expects a certain amount of flaming and trashtalk, but from the 'semi-official' player spokesman? And as for the rest of the so-called 'true' DE's, I don't think I've ever seen such sheer self-pitying misdirected hostility. If you are as arrogant and hostile asthis in-game, it's probably little wonder no-one wants to do business with any of you.
Seriously, if you are all so thoughoughly fed up and irritated about your profession as these flames indicate, perhaps you might want to consider retraining; if nothing else then for the sake of your IRL health.
Yes, holocrons are stupid, but EVERY profession board is full of the 'how do i get M[whatever] asap???' and 'i need a macro plz!1!'. As pointed out earlier, it isn't the Holocroneer's fault they have to jump through stupid hoops they have no interest in. A well-placed piece of advice and they will be out of your hair, and profession, in no time, leaving you to your misery in peace.
I actually bought the game with the firm intention of being a 'true' DE, but frankly, I'm glad I'm not. Almost *Every* DE I talked to about it said 'Don't...it sucks/broken/not very useful/not profitable'. I got a variety of replies to the next question; 'Why do you still do it?', most of which were based on the assumption that 'one day, things might get better'. Some of those interviewed even exhibited classic 'Battered Housewife Syndrome', i.e. 'It isn't SOE's fault...they do try hard to help us...'
While I appreciate some of you are working hard to try to improve things, really, if it is as bad as all this, and if you are listened to so infrequently, why persist? Clearly it seems to be making a great many of you very upset, and you aren't being paid to help them out, are you?
And no, I have no holocron, have no interest in holocrons, and couldn't care less about The Force, frankly. (I actually came here looking for a Bloodfin DE for a crafting droid consultation, but I'm not sure I'm that interested anymore.) Regardless, the sheer arrogance shown here can hardly be justified, particularly not from the 'Profession Correspondent.' One-star, flame, etc, whatever, but please just take a step back and think about it all...you'll all feel much better for it, I'm sure.
I understand where you guys are coming from. You're broken, you have TH spin doctoring you left and right.
But the hostile environment you've created isn't condusive to anything. Yeah, I got a holo that told me to DE, and I posted about it last night. Didn't ask for a macro or anything, I just said hello. I was immediately one-starred.
What you're failing to realize is that maybe you're turning someone away who might really like DE. Maybe after a day or two of crafting, I'll REALLY enjoy it.I don't know how many of you are from Bria, but I'm quite the mouthpiece, and it wouldn't have hurt to have someone like me on your side. I wouldn't feel comfortable posting here asking for advice, comments, or anything. When I opened the 'Cron last night, I immediately came to these boards to look at how things are. I was greated with a page full of vitrol towards those of us who dared get this in our 'Crons.
I'm a rifleman, have been since the beginning when I couldn't find another rifleman around. Combat types dread a Rifleman 'Cron as much as non-combat dread DE. But I assure you, had I opened a Rifleman 'Cron and gone to those boards, they would have been greated warmly.
Maybe you guys are just a tad bit elitist about all of this? Just something to think about.
