Thread: Droid Module Focus (Detonation): Information, discussion and bug-reporting (04/24/04)

I can actually forsee some wealthy PVPers being intersted in droids with both combat modules and detonation modules. Picture a DZ-70 ADV with a combat rating of 100 or so (93-99 damage), around 2k HAM or whatever they can be experimented to now on TC, and a single detonation module. You send in your droid to do some fighting for you, maybe just as a distraction while you do most of the damage, and when your enemy isn't looking, you tell your pet to detonate (using /tellpet so your enemy doesn't realize it's coming). It would be a big surprise and a decent wallop.
The only problem is they can see the countdown (when you use the detonate command a countdown starts, which is visible by everyone). As far as PVP uses I see BH's using it as a surprise attack to take out a Jedi's speeder, or a group of people with BH/smuggler that use them to do some serious damage to base NPC's or turrets. For PVE I could see BH's or smugglers with scout using it to take out a whole nest of some creature with valuable hide/meat, or just taking out mission creatures/lairs for cash.

If I can find a smuggler or BH that wants to help out later tonight I'll do this...
I am a little disappointed about the Detonation module being available at Master DE.
I am a novice DE and I like playing as a DE. I want to play the role of a real DE, Not grind my way to Master, building small SALEBLE droids to advance. The detonation module would be perfect at lower levels. The novice DE could sell some one-shot exploding MSE droids and master could build a big super nova droid.
I think Novice should get xp crafting cheap consumable and Master should be crafting expensive permanent droids for all professions.
But I think I am the only one thinking like that ![]()
Bettosh Novice DE, Gorath
I'm just trying to think of ways to use this droid without someone seeing the countdown and fleeing.

Are you kidding? I think it would be funny as hell watching someone try and run away from a droid on Follow Target with the count down ticking down.

Got my factory workin on it right now... i got taunted by a smuggler wtih high level composite that thought it wouldnt hit him that hard...
Poor guy... 2 modules took out half of his health (with the 60% armor resists and the 75% PVP reduction, he got hit by 550 - armor blocked 950 or so of the rest of the damage) - now i want to make sure that i can incap him all the way.
At the same time - i am going to try to get like 10 people to attack the smuggler/BH i get to test the explosive R3 and see what happens.

Just a note that the server lag in game is 3 to 10 seconds. I wouldn't discount these in PvP. By the time you see one, it has already gone off. The only variable there is how long between pulling the droid and setting it to go off does it take. May still give you a bit of time if that is a lengthy process.
On Sunrunner - i have never seen lag longer then 2 seconds max between players. and that was in an extremely busy city.
lag is hard to measure. from what I have seen, for may people who complain about lag, the problem is actually client side and isn't really lag at all. a lot of people in this game who are experiencing lag are experiencing it because their video card is too slow or doesn't have enough memoryto keep up with the game's graphic engine. another thing i've noticed is that defragging a sloppily maintained hard drive can cure lag issues that some players have with this game.
in other words, lag often has nothing to do with the server and on slow, or poorly maintained computers could easily go into the range of 3 seconds or more.
