Thread: What is up with no /tip for training?!?!?
edit edit edit... I really can spell "the", really, I can. No seriously. I just typ etoo fast at times ![]()
If anyone ever /tips me for training I'll /tip it right back to them. How selfish can you get? NO ONE expects to pay for training with all the people offering to pay you to learn from them. It's just plain stupid. If you don't want to train someone then don't do it, but expecting to be tipped for it is asinine.
I do the same as Neologist. If someone tips me, I tip it right back to them. I found that grinding in town at the cantina or where other people gather is a good place to do it while wearing my master artisian tag and listening to people ask for training. I get several requests to train others. I have almost maxed my Aprentice xp. When I do max it, I will probably head back to my house to do the grind. I had a hard time getting master artisian because of not having enough Aprentice xp and I didn't want to have to wait around to get master DE when I get the xp. So I think its a fair trade training them for free and if they are like me broke due to being a servent to my harvesters I get the aprentice xp and they get the training.
I always tip the DE masters who train me 1000 credits regardless of what skill it is. I think it's common courtesy to tip but, after all, we're going to be competing in the market against eachother. No need to make this guy any richer than he already might be.

You get apprenticeship xp. That's your tip. I don't expect or require anything beyond that. If they do tip, I thank them and wish them luck. If they don't tip, wish them luck.
There is always the option of not training people if you don't need the xp. Do you really want to try and make a business out of training people?
I still chuckle when I see people running around yelling something like, "Training all marksman and scout skill for free!" Heck, I paid a couple people to let me train them a skill or two when I was trying to make Novice DE.
I am sorry man, I have to be a D*k and say, No money exchange no train, if you train the person before money is exchanged then it is free and no one has to /tip unless they feel like it. Don't get madat some one who didn't pay just because you didn't ask them for the money before hand.
No Money No Trainy... nuff said.
Everytime someone asks me for training in something DE, I tell them I want some credits up front because I paid for the training. If they don't like it, I tell them to contact Brill. ![]()
Brill and I have a good system going... we trained each other paying half the bill to each other as we climbed the ranks... fair for both of us.
Now, I'm about to start abusing him like he's free child labour.
*gonna give him resources and tell him to make me like 20 advanced frames so he can get the xp and usage xp from me lol*
I wouldn't have such a problem with it if I hadn't JUST paid 8k for the skill not 2 minutes prior to them asking me. Listen, I'm not hurting for cash by ANY means... I also don't consider myself a greedy person, or a d*ck. I've done the work to sell my droids, make missions where I needed to make up a spot of cash, etc.
Like Ackis said, we had a great deal worked out to pay one another half of training costs whenever we'd gotten a skill from the other. It's been great. Do I expect someone to pay half every time... no. But if you share a profession with someone whom you may be a business rival with now or in the near-future - it's only fair to share the training burden (not much of a burden - but that's not the point).
Everyone's different - I'm spending waaaay to much time harping on this... I know. I was just tired last night and in a bitter mood from work that day and this just set me off.
Moral of the story - do whatever the F you want, but please show a little respect and common courtesy when dealing with your fellow DE's.
I'm like most people, if I ever train anyone, I do it because I want to help out. I know what it's like to struggle and grind to get to a new skill, and then you need to learn it. So if someone is asking for a skill that I can train, I train it. I don't expect tips, but if I do get tipped, all the more better. Like most, I'd just like a "thank you" and appreciation for helping them out.
When I do get trained myself, I normally like to tip, just because I'm that kind of person. I don't like to do it if I am forced to do it (I.E. I'll train you for 500 cr), but if the person is going to train me out of just wanting to help, then I will show my appreciation by giving them a tip, and showing them my gratitude by saying "thank you, I appreciate it".
I can't always tip though, because I am struggling for money myself, and can't always afford it. Whether I tip someone or not, I always give them the respect by saying "Thank you, I appreciate it" (never "thx", for a couple reasons, none of which is really that I find it generic, or unsincere, but I know some people don't, and I just like typing everything out anyways). But if they ever come to where I am at, I will automatically tip them. If I go to them, then I may or may not.
To be honest, I've tipped maybe 25% of the people who have trained me. As a general rule, I dont expect people to tip, and I dont tip (often). Of course Im also polite and nice about it. I'd also have to say that people that I've trained tip me about 25% of the time.II've easily trained twice as many people as people have trained me. I consider it fair trade and exchange of knowledge. Somehow what goes around comes around. Who's to say that the guy I trained in architecture three weeks ago wont be training you ten days from now when you start working on a new class.
Just my two creds
(BTW to those who think I'm trolling, Im also a Novice DE... so expect me to be begging you for training =) j/k)
First off, let me say i'm using my gf's handle. Now i have to say...C'mon people! Saying that someone is a d*ck or greedy because they've been snubbed over and over and over by inconsiderate, selfish people is ridiculous. They have a right ot be upset. There was one time early in the game that i didn't tip for some low level skill, i figured he needed the App XP and i needed the few credits i had. Well considering that i was raised to not expect something for nothing, i still feel bad about it to this day. If anyone has a few credits and a shred of decency they should tip. Before anyone accuses me of being rich in-game i should tell you that i am not rich in the least. I've blown over 200k easily getting the materials needed to climb the smuggler and droid engineer professions. 90% of that money came from doing boring destroy missions that i absolutly despise. I was so lost and clueless in this game that i was still using a CDEF after 2 weeks, needless to say i was broke. I've had to tell a good friend of mine twice in the last three weeks that i couldn't afford to go to Endor with him because i was broke. And through all this i have tipped for every bit of my training except for that one guy and my frined who trained me in 2 pistoleer skills. It's called decency and respect, and also having a little pride in yourself, concepts that seem disturbingly foreign to way too many people these days. BTW, i'm not some old fart, i'm a 25 year old fart.
