Thread: The Infamous January Publish Quote...

JustG,
You guys should put a link to a disclaimer at the bottom of dev posts so that the flame happy board participants won't be as quick to interpret them as the word of god.
For example just make it say at the bottom:
"Information found in dev posts is subject to change - Please click here for more details"
And then have that link go to an explanation like the one you just gave.

This really isn't the point. We all know that the timelines change and we expect it. The problem is that when they change, we don't find out about it until the patch notes come out. The devs treat this information like it's a state secret, and then don't seem to understand when we get angry about it. If they would just keep us informed, we would be able to help them better and this board would be a lot calmer.

Armor: Skillpoints, not at all free (master armorsmith), armor degrades, is NOT as extreme a power multiplier as -any- pet has been demonstrated to be. Look at how easy it is, even now, to use a pet as a blocker and kill the critter without taking a single hit yourself. Unless you actually let the pet incap, no wear and tear results at all (unlike armor hits).
Master doctor buff: Skillpoints, again, not free. Master doctor isn't cheap. This one IS a decent force multiplier, but just like high health in a pet without armor and resists, it doesn't make you anything like invulnerable, and doesn't trivialize high level content (defined as things like force mobs, krayts, etc) like high threat pets can and have been demonstrated to.
This all applies to spices, foods.
And pets, too. You could make the comparison that a CH pays skillpoints just like a doctor, but the comparison stops there.. Those pets, bought with skillpoints, can't be handed out. Back in the day, when a Rancor could be tamed, trained, and handed to a novice, we got a vivid demonstration of why this was unbalanced.
The skillpoints for that kind of force multiplier have to come from the user, because it's such an =extreme= level of amplification.
THIS is what the devs are talking about with decent combat droids. TH's quote is directly referencing that if combat droids of real usefulness (ala current >CL10 pets) are brought into existence, using them is going to have to cost you skillpoints. Durable, high ham, high armor, high resist pets (metal or flesh) have been amply demonstrated to be far more valuable than one additional PC in the group, for strong opponents (not even counting the impact in pvp). Even with the recent changes to the professions for defense, your best tank on a krayt isn't a person, if you've got a tank at all.
What are you talking about??? YES......these are FREE!! To the person receiving or buying the armor or buffs or food or whatever. They are not free to the people making the items, but the person that purchases the buff or item has basically gotten an advantage for free (or for credits if you prefer).
Droid Engineers have nothing like this besides the medical module and that is only at the master level where it gives a 10% boost to the skill. Not hardly the multi-million selling point that weapon smiths and armor smiths have the market cornered on. Can we help it if the Devs can't figure out a realistic way for droids to decay so we get repeat sales? Perma Death just tanked out sales even more.
Understand what you read.
Yeah, I want this too.

Thanks for the update JustG, and may I say....
ROGER ROGER'S FOR NEW LEVEL 10 COMBAT DROID!
as far as the issue of the post everyone is quoting in there sigs: I'm one who thinks that fact that the promised droid update has slipped is a small issue. And I think that even the people who are putting it in their sigs would feel that way too if it weren't part of a larger pattern. The slippage of the January droid update is the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.
Don't pretend, JustG, that that is actually reason the camel's back broke for so many people.
That would be very unwise.
Ah, I think all of this was taken from the patch notes that also said 1% decay was being removed from pvp.
Can we be sure all this droid stuff will be in Publish 6, or will it all be removed, too?
JustG,
Im not happy with theexplinations and I agree with some of my coligues that SOE is choking the off the Dev tallent to save a buck and that most, if not all of this stuff, should have been completed and tested prior to launch...
But, it _is_ nice to hear from you in reguards to the droid situation. Good or bad, news is appriciated.
