Thread: The Infamous January Publish Quote...
1% Insured Decay is being removed from PvP.
I don't think you will ever live that one down. And I hope that you guys figure out DECAY=GRIEF=NOT FUN before World of Warcraft hits retail. Otherwise this game is going to be left with nothing but Star Wars fanboys who go to conventions dressed in Jedi robes with aluminum foil lightsabers. And I don't think there's enough of those guys to support an MMO....

Good point Sodan. I agree with the fact that anyone with money can get the best armor and the best buffs in the game with money completely throws off any semblance of balance in this game. Of course I wouldn't justify one faulty system for another.
Good point. Remove all armor, buffs, spices, foods, and skill tapes, OR add useful droids, combat and urility. Wonder which is the best option?

Armor: Skillpoints, not at all free (master armorsmith), armor degrades, is NOT as extreme a power multiplier as -any- pet has been demonstrated to be. Look at how easy it is, even now, to use a pet as a blocker and kill the critter without taking a single hit yourself. Unless you actually let the pet incap, no wear and tear results at all (unlike armor hits).
Master doctor buff: Skillpoints, again, not free. Master doctor isn't cheap. This one IS a decent force multiplier, but just like high health in a pet without armor and resists, it doesn't make you anything like invulnerable, and doesn't trivialize high level content (defined as things like force mobs, krayts, etc) like high threat pets can and have been demonstrated to.
This all applies to spices, foods.
And pets, too. You could make the comparison that a CH pays skillpoints just like a doctor, but the comparison stops there.. Those pets, bought with skillpoints, can't be handed out. Back in the day, when a Rancor could be tamed, trained, and handed to a novice, we got a vivid demonstration of why this was unbalanced.
The skillpoints for that kind of force multiplier have to come from the user, because it's such an =extreme= level of amplification.
THIS is what the devs are talking about with decent combat droids. TH's quote is directly referencing that if combat droids of real usefulness (ala current >CL10 pets) are brought into existence, using them is going to have to cost you skillpoints. Durable, high ham, high armor, high resist pets (metal or flesh) have been amply demonstrated to be far more valuable than one additional PC in the group, for strong opponents (not even counting the impact in pvp). Even with the recent changes to the professions for defense, your best tank on a krayt isn't a person, if you've got a tank at all.
JustG "We plan on implementing combat droids (< level 10) in P7, and Utility Droids in P8"
I agree with you, information changes... thats one thing, misleading is totaly diferent. Again, what you are talking about implementing in 2 or 3 months is what was once said to be out with the 1st version of the game. I can see the nice rate things are going... its february, and that january publish still isnt out, and the monthly story... 3 acts e more than 6 months... monthly???
To me it just seems like sony is only trying to have the least possible ppl on the Dev team, so they can save money, but the result is the slow rate things are going and the high number of people droping the game.
You shouldn't have reopened the closed accounts yet. The people that did leave the game wont be finding that much new content and stability, and they will leave again. My 2 cents (still hoping for a miracle here)
boy, everyone having that JustG quote on their sig must have really got his blood boiling
hehe, who shall we quote to death next to annoy?

Seshemw, Sodan was not referring only to combat droids. He was referring to a post that TH made that basically said "Droids (meaning utility droids to be added)won't be able to enhance abilities or skills at all, and that adding skill or ability enchancers breaks the game"
I would be even happier having a list of things on the change list without any dates whatsoever.
Its like every bit of information concerning the game is a state secret that must be dragged kicking and screaming out of the dev side.

Thanks for the thoughtful post. Did you even think about the fact that the skillpoint costs was for the USER not the skillpoint cost for the CRAFTER to make the item. TH's quote is directly addressing UTILITY modules for droids. Find it yourself.
If you know anything about combat droids you know that, unlike CH pets, their condition cannot be repaired by Pet Stimpacks. So much for your "wear and tear" argument.
Thanks for going the whole way on this one.
You guys should put a link to a disclaimer at the bottom of dev posts so that the flame happy board participants won't be as quick to interpret them as the word of god.
For example just make it say at the bottom:
"Information found in dev posts is subject to change - Please click here for more details"
And then have that link go to an explanation like the one you just gave.
