Thread: Droids: Where we were and where we’re going.
Just wanted to add some words of congrats to the DE community for getting some attention.
Now someone make me a combat droid I can hide behind! ![]()
sounds good, the only problem I see is you now will allow 2 combat capable pets out at the same time? I thought with all the problems mentioned about balance issues, that this wouldnt be allowed, I mean you cant give >CL 10 pets w/o a new profession yet players will be able to use 2 CL pets anyways?
Also would still like to see bonuses added to droid chassis, so a BLL has a reason to be made, or any of the other non selling droids. Like maybe extra storage capacity for BLL, better healing rating for surgical droids, etc.
Awesome news, TH.
I really hope that the Devs take the Advanced Binary Load Lifter into consideration before Publish 7 comes out. I'd like to think that big thing would have more combat capabilities than an R3 unit. It requires way too many resources to be limited to 1 combat module.
But, still, very cool to see the way things are going!

Entertainer module: Entertainers would get a certification so that only they could use this droid (no combat functionality is added so its different that the combat certs). This module would allow an entertainer to queue one of 10 different new effects (smoke, lighting, etc.)The advantage is that the droid won’t consume entertainers HAM (just batteries). Each module will represent a different effect. So with 10 different effects, there will be 10 Entertainer modules which means the higher level droids with more module slots will be more useful for queuing different effects.
Merchant Barker module: This would give droids the ability to bark advertisements, give waypoints to shops, have additional information available so players could list prices, services, etc through a radial menu command.
For all that is holy! Are y'all out of your minds???? Is there not enough lag in Cities and cantinas as it is??? DROIDS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN CANTINA'S AT ALL!!!
It's bad enough i have to watch a holo dancer with lag just to be able to play, but now your going toguarentee people that don't have high end systems crash when they go into a bigger city such as Theed or Coronet.
How about thinking how implementing those entertainer/ dancer/ musician modules will effect the ENTIRE GAME before adding them in. This isn't exactly gonna draw more people to those professions, it will just increase the time in which they can macro afk without heals.
Sorry if my post sounds a bit harsh, but i keep seeing the addition of new things in the publishes, when basic problems that have been going on since beta have yet to be addressed. The lag (caused by graphics, not connection) in cities is just about unbearable as it is. My video card handles it fine, but if i log in on my second pc (which is still above the requirements for the game) there is no point in going to town, as it will take 5 minutes to get anywhere. Why don't the devs concentrate more so on these type issues or fixing the faction problems rather than add new things.
With all respect to the DE Community, your profession gets more communication from TH/Devs than ALL other professions combined. They might not always give you the answers you want, but you at least get answers. Lets don't add things to make things nicer for a few, when it will cause MANY problems for the majority. As i'm not sure who has requested thought up these entertainer modules, I don't want to rain on your parade, but it's certainly not the most thought out plan in regards to the game as a whole.

Survey Droid would be great to have it hunt down resource spots for you simalar to the tracking droid. It would email the waypoint highest % and then self destruct once located. You could point itin a direction and let it find something in that direction.
From the list of changes TH posted, it looks like, at long last, droids are going to start functioning as an augmentation to player skills, not just as roleplay moneysinks to subsidize DEs. DEs will be able to build more droids that people want to have because they enhance their play in tangible ways.
This is just the beginning, of course, but it's pointing in the right direction.
I, for one, am very hapy that DEs are finally getting some love. They've been suffering for a long time.
Now, give the BLL something worthwhile to do, devs. Give it more modules. Make the modules valuable to players. GIVE THE DROIDS USEFUL WORK!
Looking good!
I eagerly await further details on Publish 7, such as:
Will there be any new chassis introduced? At the moment, the only droid that can hold six modules is a R3 - not exactly what I think of when I picture a "combat droid".
Will combat modules raise HAM? Will they be ranged only, or ranged and melee?
Will you ever be enhancing the effects of Personality Chips?
Thanks!
