Thread: What droid handler class will do to DEs
Ackis wrote:
How can you have a combat class based off a crafting profession? Second in order to be a DE you need MA. No ifs, buts or maybes. I go through about 3k MA components a week. That's up to 5k when I decide to do BH droids.
First, as many have pointed out in the past, there are already professions that have combat abilities that are not based off of Marksman or Brawler. Smuggler, anyone? How about Combat Medics? And yes, I appreciate the irony that I'm the one now using that argument. I hope you appreciate the irony that I'm using it against you. ![]()
Second, Jenden goes through the same number of Master Artisan parts a week and he's not a Master Artisan. You're just plain wrong about this. Master Artisan is not in any way REQUIRED to be a Droid Engineer. It is useful, but it is not required. Pay a Master Artisan 5k to make you a schematic. Have him make you 10 schematics if you need 'em. It only adds 0.05 credits per item to the cost.
I do agree with you, though, in most respects. I think that Droid Handler is something of a kludge. We don't know all of the information that went into making this decision, though. They may have been taking the easy way out by creating Droid Handler, or they may have been taking the ONLY way out. We just don't know.

Well there is some talk of a MDE only droid.
A lil quirk. Not uber combat... just a special type.
Where did you read this, Ackis? I'll withhold judgment till you post a link. Smells like more elitism to me. And I don't mean in the L33t sense.

In order to have more droids around doesnt mean you have to give them to everyone, dont you think a whole bunch of people would pick up DH if it was implemented? That would be plently of droids roaming around, but not so much that they clutter up our cities
No one will pick up DH and stick with it. That's how it will be. A force vision thingy I've had. It will be as buggy as DE with the combination of the uselessness of the new CH profession.

Smuggler needs unarmed and pistol skills. Combat medic needs one line out of marksman.

If it was 5k per schematic it wouldn't be a problem. It's about 50k per schematic on WH. So I do need MA. I've looked into this recently and I cannot afford to go without MA. It's a fact of life on WH.
You know this is why I hate threads like this. I love it when people express themselves particularly if they have educated themselves first -- even if I disgree with them.
If TH reads this thread he's gonna think the DE community is divided on the DH profession issue by the volume and vociferousness of the pro-DH'ers. Take a gander at the poll on this issue and you'll see what the DE community REALLY thinks.
Is it possible to debate this issue. Heck, yeah, we already have. But holding it up as two equal sides fails to capture the mosaic-like module of the DE community's opinion on the matter.

And yet you still see creature handlers and creatures everywhere, enough so that it isnt overkill like before. Im happy with the CH changes as well, still the same creatures only less people with them.

Itwas talked about in the meeting last night for one place. I've also seen it posted around a few times. It's one of those ideas that people don't think 100% through... they think MDE only droid and assume it's combat.

I know of Creature Handlers who will likely drop CH and pick up DH. They wanted to be able tofight with droidsand were frustrated that DEis a crafting profession, not a combat profession, so they picked up CH. They won't be able to drop CH fast enough to get signed up for DH.
There are a lot of people out there who are going to think this is a good thing. It's just that none of them (or very few of them) are currently Droid Engineers.
I wonder what the Creature Handler and Bio Engineerforums have to say about this?

In the star wars universe, droids are just as commonplace as people. There should be a lot more droids roaming around in player cities. Droids should be the foundation for this game. Instead it's weapons. Of all the professions, WS is needed the most, followed by Arch, tehn AS, Chef and Tailor. DEs are NOT needed. Not one bit.
True on all that you said. I would have liked certs on existing professions myself also. However, the fact remains that this whole droid invasion plan is specifically designed around combat oriented droids. Droids in general are more of utility machines to aid the common person in whatever they are doing. What I am more concerned about is the future of these abilities (modules). I would MUCH rather hear the devs say they are implementing at least a few of the great module ideas we have braught up in many posts.
In any case, if this droid handler class does come into the game, it WILL bring us more revenue and more clients, not the oposit. (keep in mind I would still prefer certs in existing classes). so if it comes, I'll take it, and realize its much too late I beleive to tell the devs to put on the brakes and go back to the drawing board. I dont want to wait another 6 months!
Now, hopefully, from now on, the devs will realize that more communication is needed in the CONCEPT phase of all of this. Please no more vagueness devs!
I don't. I see people with uber BE lvl 10 pets everywhere, but not CHs so much. The nerf to them drastically reduced the number of CHs. I love it.

I would assume they'd be against it as well.
