One reason to open this vote up is because it impacts other players (potential dabblers) and so that other professions can weigh in on the balnce issues. For example, some melee types are concerned about Variant 1; wo which I have responded that the plan is flexible and that Variant 2 is available.

I love that movie. There're even CHs in it.

I recognize that you won't, but I wish that you would join with us. We must join with Sauroman. Oh, wait wrong setting!

We could all use some of south farthings finest weed.

If I could convince myself that your hybrid plan would not cause the loss of any crafting ability, whether currently implemented or future potential that might be lost to the balance knife, I would happily join with you. I'm just peeved at SOE for not making Droid Engineer the best possible profession that it could have been from a crafting point of view -there should be as much or more demand for Droid Engineers as there is for Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths. But SOE screwed it up, and we got creature wars instead of Star Wars.

I get the distinct impression now that the Devs are just gun shy. (Pun intended.) They are afraid to give us CH-level pets and they're also afraid to give us AS or WS level crafting usefulness. And now they're afraid to give us Chef-level "support" capabilites as well.

I really don't think many people would care if Droids were too powerful for a while. At least the game would be more Star Wars-y if there everyone had a droid following them around all the time.

Woot! Right on man. I can assure you that this plan will only make DEs better crafters.SOMEBODY's gonna have to make those high end droids! If the devs are smart they'll make them just as experimentable as BE pets.

Sodan,

I love how positive you are most times, but I still have one hang up with this plan. Maybe you can help me with it.

How do you mesh this plan with the Star Wars timeline? I won't buy a dismissive argument of how other things might not mesh. I do not see any reason to make things worse from a "Star Warsy" sense. Granted, your plan would help by making droids more visable, but just not in a way that fits with this point in the Star Wars plot.

I do have one idea to toss at you though (so as not to be all negative).

What about the manufacture of droids to defend faction bases? Could be donated like turrents. Would give us steady income with the raids on the bases destroying what we build.

Thanks for the inquiry. I am not as familiar with star wars storyline outside the mobvies. I am told combat droid are illegal. I think that's awesome. Make them scanable contraband! There is the problem that continuity is ignored on throughout SWG. Not sure how to reconcile it. What is you continuity concern specifically?

I've always thought that DEs making faction based droids would be cool, perhaps with the purchase of schematics from the recruiter. Rebels get the schematics with FPs, DEs make the droids, etc. What do others think? I recall drodids being faction perks, but everyone says they suck.

Custom weapons (sliced so to speak) were part of the movie you could say. Han's blaster. Chewie's Bowcaster. ect.

Armor, well, I don't know about that one. Was not a lot of armor used in the movies except for where Luke was disguised.

However, did you ever see droids used in battle in the original trilogy? This game is placed between the first and second movies (ANH and ESB)

There was not any evidence in the movies to support any wide spread droid use for combat. The one example that does come to mind is the probot in ESB...and that blew itself up.

The one arguement that could be made, and makes sense, is this...

Both clones and combat droids were made illegal after the Clone Wars. This was done to prevent another long drawnout war caused by both sides being able to produce more troops.

Clone technology is used in SWG because the Devs and the beta players were unable to come up with another way for a player to respawn that would fit into the game.

It could be argued that during our SWG time, both Clone and Combat Droids make a come back because the Empire has been weakened by the Battle of Yavin.

I do not know how much I like this arguement though because it could lead to things feeling less and less like the movies. I HATE seeing astromechs as battledroids. He is a darned nav unit/utility droid and not a gladiator.

As for the "Faction Base Droid" idea, I'll shoot off a message to TK and see if he will post something. Blue names work well.

Good points all. My feeling is that id droidekas once existed, there is no way to stamp out all knowledge relating to them. If the knowledge exists then it can be recreated. Under this view, illegal combat droids should be better than they were when they were first concieved!

Kollos wrote:

Sodan, as has been explained before, implementing your plan would take time away from further development of droid utility. They only have so much time to spend working on on our profession, so if they spend time converting us to a hybrid profession where is that time going to come from?

Exactly. There's only so much that can be done in a given amount of time...especially considering whatever 'thing' it is they are trying to add/change.That's why getting the best proposal we can, tweaked (and approved) on both sides is the single best course of action. While we get that nailed down, we can focus on mo' betta utility and continued bug fixes galore.

That's my personal view on our best short-term situation.

I know I'm in something of a minority...but I suggest we let the combat changes lie...try them out..and get a real, longer-term feel for how they are playing out.

Remember, everyone, the combat revamp totally plays into the stats we're seeing on our new droids. A lot related to combat/HAM is going to get a 'pass' in Publish 8. We might well see the numbers we have making our new combat droids a good bit tougher than they are now in comparison to the environment.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of players of SWG that think that coding this mutha' is like fast food. It's not. It's like...slow roasting ribs.

It will come at the expense of either bug fixes or droid utility.

Well...maybe not quite that bad. The devs have always stated that bug fixes are in many places separate from creation/tweaking of new content. So, I think we can still get a healthy smattering of both in Publish 8.

Can we get mo' betta bug fixes, utility (4 mods.) plus more....and the combat droid 'situation' that everyone wants in Publish 8? Methinks not.

We need to iron out and nail down the new DE >CL10 plan (currently, DE Hybrid per Sodan and the rest of the DEs) and get that in the schedule.

This is, everyone, my view on how we can best proceed in coming weeks to months (yucky though some of you may find it...but realistic).

So as I said, wouldn't we be better off working with them to flesh out the plan they currently have in place for patch 8 rather than trying to get them to reverse course and make major alterations to it at this late date?

Yup. Along those lines, I am going to have the Concept Module series posts sticked at the top...maybe later tonight.

We have a strong proposal, which I think has legs (really).

I am not a Droid Engineer. I don't know if I wanna either (No offence to all yu DEs out there) I am a BE and I like biological anyway. Well, it seems here we have a failure to communicate. I agree that the Devs did give us a wrong impression on the Droid Invasion, believe me. i couldn't wait to get my hands on one of those droids, even though I am more biological. I dont think, though they should make a separate class for Droid handlers. I feel that it shuld be like the player city patch. At master of their professions..Dancers, Musicians, Doctors, Combat Medics, all were able to place sometin in a city that a politician couldnt (unless he was one of them) I feel that all master combat professions (or close to master) should get certs for high lvl droids. (NEWBs could use probots an such) The high lvl Musicians and Dancers should get the cert for Entertainer droid, and Doctors get anotha droid. it is very simple, and no new droid profession has to be added. I know I don't know much about droid crafting and what not, i just like to browse through ya'll forum's to see the difference from the BE forumsI hope this may provide some assistance, andif it doesn't plz dont ridicule me. Remember, i am not a Droid Engineer, and don't know the way of the craft.

Really? I'm selling a lot of everything, myself...

I guess I have to do something with my time as I run ComMod and Repair Kit factory runs.
