Thread: Holo's new plan to really piss us off?
Also I see no reason why R units and other utility type droids need to be certified. But I think their ability to have a med module, and a repair module should be taken away. The surgicals & LE Repair droids need to be the only droids with those abilities.
I doubt anyone will agree with me and imjust ranting rubbish.
We talked about this in the "Execution" Thread here in the DE forum, and brought it up in the Discussion Forum.
If you read/agreed with some of the elements in it, maybe you could go to the Discussion forum, and respond to my post (which was a linked to the DEthread), to help raise awareness to the other players about this.
Everyone needs to just chill here
Don't pull the fire alarm just yet and run around screaming like a Architect who just crit failed a PA hall.
A "Droid Handeler" type profession might not be a bad idea.
Pull out your probot (or your DZ70) what can you or anybody else do with it.
They can say "Attack" or "Guard" to be used in combat thats it. I was killing some imperials yesterday and i said to my probot, I really wish you could do a bleed shot. After all there are creatures that can do bleed attacks and not to mention poison, stun ect. Then not knowing Holo's latest comments i posted on Sin's latest thread my Idea for a "Droid Handler" profession. I think this is a good idea
A weaponsmith makes rifles
A rifeman purchases said rifle and does special attacks with it like /headshot.
However a weaponsmith can make a CDEF pistol (i know thats an artisan schmatice but work with the analogy here) that CDEF pistol can be used by anyone
A droid engineer makes (insert high level combat droid here)
A (i hate this term) "Droid Handeler" purchases said droid and uses special attacks with it like /DroidAreaAttack
Howevera Droid engineer can make a Probot which can be used by anyone.
I love this idea i don't see it heading towards Bio Engineering at all becaue we can stilk make our R2's with medical mods and crafting stations that anybody can use,
I hope im not the only person out there that likes this idea
I totally disagree with the idea of a Droid Handler class.
Creature Handlers have a premise of controling critters that cannot be programmed, and need to be taught. Droids are not "living" entities that need to be taught.. they are programmed and built by a Droid Engineer. Therefore there is no need for a Handler.
I do feel that BE shouldn't inherantly be able to control the critters the make. (I don't know if they can or not) Just because you can make Frankenstein doesn't mean you can control him, after all he isn't a robot.
We should be able to use the droids we make. We should get certifications for the droids we have schematics for. Otherwise it would be like a computer programmer not knowing how to use a computer.
Who would want to be a droid handler anyway? Just so he can tame and use an 800 HAM probot? Who would do that when they can becomea pokemonhandler and have much better pets.
My God, do you guys understand what your saying? I spent countless hours to become MDE and what your suggesting is that i will not be able to control my own droids?
Dont give me that crap that Master Weaponsmiths cant use their own products. I took up DE so i could build and use Droids! Thats the way the profession was designed. CH's can tame and control their pets. BE's can clone and use cloned pets. They are functionable as stand-alone classes.
If we continue to press a Certification system, we loose the ability to use our bots. We are then nerfing ourselves! I kept the faith that one day id be able to build and use battle droids. You all are planting a seed into the Dev's minds to take this dream away.
I thought we were a family dedicated to improving the Droid Engineer line, but all i see is another nerf in a sea of DE nerf's.
Are you happy now?...

Hey Relic, actually no man personally I'm not.... and I'm sure a lot of us aren't. I mean really --the implemented droid system does not work, it's obvious the CH/Pet system was developed first and that a decision was made to make droids work off of that class/sub-class system... that was a decision that SOE chose and we are forced to live with it. Lets face it we are in the situation we are in and the Devs are not going to recode/re-implement droids under a different system at this point.
We also need to be realistic that some kind of cert system or new class or another idea/plan has to be put into place to address the basic problem SOE has: right now everyone can use droids, and SOE won't implement new/more powerful/usefull droids that everyone can use at any level. It just ain't gonna happen.
SOE wants players to have to pay, play and earn xp before they are granted higher level items, weapons AND DROIDS.
The probot nerf was a temporary quick fix.
I think we all need to realize the writing is on the wall now that SOMETHING is going to be put in place to address that problem of univeral access to all levels of droids whether we like that or not. I think in the long run this will help us (please God).
We need to look at this as an opportunity to input and pose alternatives if we don't like whats' been said. In fact I might argue Holo posted this on purpose to see our response and test the idea in the community (or ferret out some new ones).
I dont see anything wrong with using the current CH format. Why not allow all non-combat droids be usable by all, then have combat droids follow the CH rules.
If they add lot more combat droids like they say they will, the split them up by level. CH's can sell lvl 15 pets to anyone. Why cant we build lvl 15 combat droids (ie: Probot)to anyone, but leave the stronger combat droids to DE's alone. As you progress up the DE line, your able to build and use the more powerful combat droids.
This would be a simple way to fix their issue. Simply put, only Droid Engineers can use powerfull combat droids. Problem solved.
DE's SHOULD be the droid handling profession. NOT some new class.
Most of us got into this broken and worthless class because we hoped that someday when the better droids were in we'd be able to craft AND use them.
Because of the Master Artisan requirement. Yes requirement. To be a Droid Engineer, we don't have enough points left for another master elite class.
DE contains certs to use very good droids? Fine
Some new profession required to do it? NO NO NO
We've talked about having a "Droid handler" profession that would serve as the CH equivalent, and then DE wouild be the equivalent of BE. There's also just rolling the certs into the DE track itself.

That is what holo actually said. So, i dont think they have any idea whatsoever what they are going to do. When you read someone's post or decide to paraphrase them, please include all the information.
