Thread: JustG, Thunder, please read

We are never going to let this go are we. You know, im a technical illustrator working for a construction company. When we do parts books, sometimes, my team gets bumped from a pump book to a mixer bookwithout any notice or warning by people who matter more than the people who want pump drawings, and for any number of reasons: They want to sell a large number of them to one customer, theres potential for a lawsuit, theres a new product launch and they decide they really want to time it right. Does it mean that my team hates our pump department, or more importantly, our pump customers? No! it means that things happen. You deal with it as best you can.

All the people who makeposts that read "Why dev's hate X so much" and "JustG, please read" as if somehow what you have to say is so much more important than anything they are doing, need to get grow up a little. Things change, and there was some miscommunication about what we wanted vs what we were willing to accept. Did they screw up in communicating with us? I guess so. As far as im concerned, thier only mistake was in committing to a january release and im sure the only reason that happened was because all of the flame they got for "When are we going to hear about this? when is that happening, bla bla bla"

We all get it. You are disgruntled. Quit or shut up and offer some constructive critisism instead of harping on the past and beating them over the head with it every **edit** time you post. Like with the 1% decay thing. They do what we all ask and instead of people unamimously celebrating the goodness that is SOE, half the posts are like backhanded compliments. "Hey, glad you finally woke the F up" or "Good, now lets not let this happen again".

How about some respect? Fake it at least. People get on here every day and talk about how retarted these guys are who probably all got college degrees and make 70 grand working on one of the greatest sci-fi licenses of all time. But one of them calls a poster a troll and people freak out. Heres how i see it, a lot of you are ungrateful, have an overinflated opinion of yourselves and unreasonable ideas about what your role is in the development of this game.

Any droid stuff should be worked on on concept threads, discussed on deveopment threads and bugged on the test threads at the developers convienience and direction. Not all of you.

My point is, they went out of the way to promise DE the so-called "Droid Invasion" (not supposed to be a single publish, but fixes and additions rolled out over at least 2 publishes, January and February, according to JustG), never bothering to go back on that statement. All the while, in the background they were working on a complete rework of the Chef profession, when that time could have at least been spent on working towards something they promised...

The only reference I was able to find (and I'm seriously trying to track down the genesis of all this, not just trying to prove anyone wrong) where they said was a post by TH here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=21175&highlight=%22droid+invasion%22#M21175

He said the first two passes would happen in Publishes 6 and 7. That was on January 22. So where did we get thatidea before that? Incidentally, the next day he "updated" this to say that it would be publishes 7 and 8. He even went back and edited the original post (BTW TH: Bad form. Bad, bad form).

I can't find any posts from JustG with the words "Droid invasion" in them.

The earliest dev post with the words "Droid Invasion" came from TH on January 2nd, here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Announcements&message.id=171&highlight=%22droid+invasion%22#M171

This was mostly in reference to the forum redesign, and he mentioned that there were In Testing threads going to be posted for the crackdown and "following" that, there would be In Development threads for the Droid Invasion.

If someone has direct evidence against this, please post it. If we can really lay out the timeline of communication here, it might show the DEVs why we are all so upset.

Orion,

You can find most of the stuff since November here:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=60798#M60798

But what you may not be aware of is that the famous end of November statement by JustG was in responce to accusations of broken promises AT THAT TIME, in November.

No I don't have the threads since summer or the ones from the fall.

But the implication was always that the class would be fixed... at least the bugs.. and soon. And this happened over and over again. Going back to the time the probot nerf was put inas temporary.

And you should realize, that as of today, all we have is a few minor fixes and a promise.

Many are not very accepting of promises any more.

The original post by JustG was back in mid-November... possibly on the 15th. Searching for "Droid Invasion" will not find it, because the term had not yet been coined (or at the very least was not yet public). What he said was that Droids would be the focus of the January patch and that we would be getting new droids in both January and February.

Yes, I'm aware of that post as well. I guess what I'm saying is that by the time they had coined the term, it was already looking like it wasn't going to happen in January.

I'm also not debating that we have been on the business end of broken promises and the like. But for now I'm referring specifically to the Droid Invasion and it's perceived schedule. Thank you everyone for bringing up the "main focus" post though... it does lend some veracity to the community's perception.

It was November 25th, to be exact. You can read it here.

Thanks for the link Rho.

My question really is this: for the past month (since the first week of January or so) the evidence against a Droid Invasion in publish 6 has been around. It hasn't been glaringly obvious, but it's been around. The list of posts in Nyght's thread sums it up pretty well.

So in the face of that, why do we continue to cling to a post from November?

I'll reitterate once more that this is not meant as an attack on anyone, please respond in kind.

For what its worth, there is also the unforunate fact that the Droid Invasion announcement appeared on the main websiteover the December holiday, completely independently of everything that happenned hear on the boards. And it was stated there that it was coming in January.

This is the reason I get daily /tells from players asking me if I'm taking orders for the new combat droids, or if I think they should master DE now because of the new combat droids. A large number of players who never read the boards still think that new combat droids are coming with thisweeks patch.

Because, they have demonstrated repeatedlythat they do not meet their promises. How many times do you need to bemisled before you begin to disbelieve someone?

When they actually do WHAT THEY SAID, things may change.

I can see your still in the believers camp. I hope you are right.

But don't fall out of your chair if another 'change in priorities' is announced in two weeks or if publish 7 contains only a handful of minor fixes. Only then will you see the power of the dark side.

Note the (often skeptical) replies to JustG's post. It was made at a time when the DE community was already feeling a lot of pain...
